Give thoughts or prayers for Louisville player Kevin Ware
The most gruesome injury I have ever seen, hands down. If you didn't see it live or on a reply, I honestly do not recommend it. Get well soon, big guy.
EDIT: Players on the the court fell down and some were in tears. Happened in front of the UL bench and reports are that some UL players literally couldn't hold their stomach. Pitino wiped away tears.
Kid still managed to give his team a short pep talk before they took him away on the stretcher.
I almost got sick when it happended. Hope he can fully recover from that.
Still a little queasy. Poor kid. That was a nasty, fluky injury.
I will never understand why they need to show so many replays of injuries like this. It was truly a horrific injury, and I hope he has a good recovery.
They only showed teh replay of the actual injury once.
actually, IIRC.
I couldn't see it from the first few angles, but I didn't know what I was looking for at that time. I think they only used the worst angle once and then only showed players' reactions after that.
Edit: Clearly I am blind or wasn't paying close enough attention. Good for me I guess. Carry on.
You could tell it was bad news when loading him into the ambulance, you could see his left foot, but you couldn't see his right foot from a 3/4 angle, with no obstructions that would block the view of his other foot.
Although one is too many in my book, I actually turned it off after that replay for about 5 minutes, because I'm used to football games where they show the inuries from 5 different angles in slow motion.
I wish they showed the injury more, I wanna see exactly what happened to the player.
Prayers out to him. I think we've all been thrilled/amazed by the quick recovery that Fitz is making and I wish nothing less for Kevin Ware. Hope to see him out on the court next year.
I havent seen it. On a scale of 1 to Lattimore, how gross is it?
I haven't seen it but from what my buddy just told me...it's like Lattimore++
Dang...Well I'm not going to watch ESPN for a week.
They won't show it. That's how bad it was.
I watched and I wish I could unwatch...cause that is wow.
Basically, the Lattimore injury was hard to tell what was going on so a lot of it was in your head. This leaves no room for imagination. It just happens and it's bad. In terms of viewing it I'd say this is worse than the Lattimore injury but the Lattimore injury was a worse injury to have.
No socks covering the injury.
Lattimore squared
its between Lattemore and Thiesman.
Leg uncovered and then as he layed there, it was still bent, it was the worst I have ever seen.
horrible horrible horrible
i wish him a speedy and thorough recovery. prayers for him on this Easter Sunday.
It was disgusting. I don't want to watch it again.
He should be ok in time, but it's going to take a long time. I hope he's getting the best available treatment.
that we don't see more injuries like that in a sport that constantly has athletes landing awkwardly on hardwood. Lord have mercy on Kevin Ware.
not for the faint of heart:

That is truly horrific. I hope he can play again.
I hope he can walk again.
He'll walk again, and probably return to the court. Sports medicine can do some impressive things. The rehab will probably be grueling, though.
broken bones only heal for non-smokers? Time for an updated surgeon general warning.
Prayers sent up. Horrific injury.
it looked like a clean brake of his leg bones...any idea what type of operation they do for that severe leg injury?
Possibly an ORIF of the Tib/Fib
He was correct. It's an ORIF using an IMN.
You are correct on the open reduction; however, If it was a closed injury it wouldn't be an open reduction. The only thing that would make it an ORIF is the fact that was open and they would have to debride/irrigate the bony ends and likely use that to their advantage to get a better reduction.
This injury is very similar to Fitz, open tibia fracture. Treatment is a titanium rod inserted through the knee, across the fracture to the ankle. ORIF as stated above.
With regards the severity, this injury is easier to rehab from than a ligamentous injury (Lattimore). This injury may look gruesome but it actually has a very good prognosis.
I would expect him back next season. Fitz is on track for a return this fall.

I saw one wide-angle shot of it, and that's all I needed. Horrible injury.
