Missouri is not at all an easy place to win.  They'd been absolutely terrible in the not-too-distant past.  Pinkel is one of the best coaches of the past 15 or so years.

with cascade of downstream effects of these jobs opening up, it's going to be surprising if Michigan's top-flight staff is untouched this offseason. They're just too impressive to ignore.

Wouldn't be surprised at all to see UCF, for instance, come hard for Durkin, or a P5 school offer a DC role to Jackson.

And Missouri is wearing all-white uniforms this weekend.  Incredibly insensitive and unbelievably tone deaf of the athletic department.  It's a "WHITE OUT" against BYU, whose church has their own deeply racist history.  It's like the administration is trying to antagonize students of color and the demonstrators.

You humans disgust me.  Many of you try to make things that aren't racist, racist.  Then you diminish things that are racist and pretend their not.  Such odd creatures full of double standards and arbitrary cultural norms.

Firstly, this "white out" has been planned for months. Months where not one of the players objected to it.Secondly, BYU's history is irrelevant to what is going on at Mizzou. If you want to play that game anti-Mormonism is also a thing. Of course, you probably are not aware of that.

I think you are well-meaning, but misguided person.

So you think a student of color attending the game should be subjected to the emotional duress and anxiety of sitting in a sea of white supremacy symbolism just because it was a pre-planned event?

You, Mr. Ice Veins, just don't care, and are therefore a racist.

Brian!, you have eight days to kick Salvatore off the site.

I'm a reasonably intelligent person who happens to be in the market for a job right now.  Looking at the state of the college football coaching world, on top of all the referees who ought to be unceremoniously dumped in a Siberian work camp, I think my best bet is to grab a copy of "Bo's Lasting Lessons" and the official NCAA football regulations and start studying for my new career.

Non - Hodgkins lymphoma is treatable with good prospects depending on how early it's caught, but as Pinkel indicated it is a battle that often doesn't go away completely. I have a friend from UM who has been battling it for 22 years, with several relapses. Given his age, makes sense for Pinkel to retire.

Never like to hear about anyone getting cancer. Wish him and his family the best, and a speedy/full recovery.

Football-wise, it will be tough for his successer to stay the course, I think.

He is a very good coach and Mizzou will miss him.

Cancer sucks, even when " beaten", it's hard for people to live fear free. Glad to hear it is treatable and hope he is back coaching which I am sure he will be.

Dam, Mizzou just getting rocked lately.

Gary Pinkel has to be one of the most underrated coaches. He built Missouri into a contender at the peak of the Big 12 and following 30 years of wandering aimlessly after Dan Devine. In the first three years of Missouri in the SEC, he took them to two SECCGs. He even had a little MAC dynasty at Toledo in the mid to late 90s. That is good coaching.

is going to find replacing Pinkel very difficult.  Remember Pinkel spurned opportunities to leave Mizzou and go to higher profile programs.

Missouri is basically Illinois with some recent success.

ability to criticize other's knowledge without displaying to anyone that you possess any amount of knowledge yourself. Why ought I to take you seriously when you have proven yourself to be nothing more than a heckler?

More importantly, why are you  engaging in the behavior of a child?

I still feel good physically, but I decided that I want to focus on enjoying my remaining years with my family and friends, and also have proper time to battle the disease and give full attention to that," he said.

Pinkel definitely leaves a positive mark in college coaching between his time at Toledo and Missouri. A MAC Championship, 3 MAC East Championships, 3 times as the Big XII North champion and twice his team was the SEC East champion. He's also been coach of the year in the MAC and SEC. That's not a bad career at all, and indeed, he was the Washington OC before he was at Toledo and certainly did well there too.

Get well, Coach Pinkel.

Mizzou was a tire fire when i moved to STL in 1995, until Pinkel.  Some, here, have complained about the lack of conference championships, but they are clueless about how hard it is to resurrect a program without national prominence or high caliber in-state talent.  I respect Pinkel and wish him the best during the most important battle of his life.  Mizzou will be lucky to find even a close replacement.
