Football roster updated
The 2010 Michigan football roster has been updated with freshmen numbers and weights.

Of note, Kenny Demens and his big ass pipes weigh in at 250 pounds.
M-Rob is sporting No. 3.
Cullen Christian No. 24.
JT Turner is now 6-2, but his weight is under 200 pounds.
Big Will is up to 333 pounds. Might need to lose some weight.
Richard Ash is a big boy at 320 pounds.
Ken Wilkins, No. 41, is up to 262 pounds.
Carvin Johnson lucky No. 13.
Richard Ash, welcome to the club. From 263 to 320? Good Lord.

How come no one gets excited about me weighing 320 lbs?

Because 60 pounds in one year doesn't exactly scream 'good weight'. He struggled with bad weight all throughout his junior and senior years, and to me, that big of a weight gain that quick sounds like a lot of bad weight. We'll find out I guess, but count me skeptical.
When I say "struggled" with bad weight, I mean he showed up to many different camps at many different weights. Sometimes he was real overweight, sometimes he was back in the mid 200s. I just can't see a freshmen DT having 300+lbs of good weight. If he buys into the program though, you're right, he should be a good player.
I don't recall where but I do remember reading an article stating that Ash has been working out religously over the spring/summer with Barwis' training and has seen tremendous results -- this may be a mix of Barwis and KFC.
I saw Mr. Ash this morning when I was walking to work. I thought Will Campbell had gained weight and was sporting dreads... 320 was low if anything
I doubt Campbell is carrying much "bad weight" at this point.
Also...our OL is not small. [Anti Rodriguez talking point flushed down the toilet]

I still hear that he clubs baby seals in his free time when he is not busy sacrificing virgins. or is it clubbing virgins and sacrificing baby seals? Whatever, I can't remember. He did cause the oil spill in the gulf, though. I know that for a fact!
I saw JT walking around campus about two weeks ago. I'm about 5'11" and he had me by a few inches...but he did look thin. Looks like the coaches are trying to keep him at cornerback weight as best as possible.

Apologies are acceptable in the form of pos-bangs.

The number itself doesn't scare me. If it's 'Barwis weight,' he has a chance to be an extremely disruptive force, whether he spits reps with Martin or slides Martin outside and starts at the nose.
It it's Charlie Weis weight (oh, how we miss you Chuck...), that's a bigger problem, though he could still spell Martin as a general clusterf*ck-creator on the interior line.
asked him to get down to 310 after spring ball. Maybe it is good weight though.

with Taylor Lewan's ability to be gigantic.
August 9th, 2010 at 10:08 AM ^
That's a large man
Jake Long isk?
But I think you mean Jake Long-esque
And anything that resembles this mountain of a man is good:
also... what is happening here? Did Jake fart? Did lloyd fart? what the hell?
He's still got a little ways to go to match Big Jake. Long weighed in the 315-320 neighborhood. But Lewan should at least be big enough to play. He's probably a year away from being dominant.

It seems strange to have a number of numbers doubled-up by players that should see the field frequently (or at least on a weekly basis).
#2 JT Turner and Vincent Smith
#5 Vlad and Tate
#6 Furman and Stokes
#12 JT Floyd and Roundtree
#52 Schilling and Leach
I know there have always been doubled numbers, but I can't recall any seasons in which two players contributed significantly sharing the same number. I'm optimistic that at least a few of the combinations above find both players contributing significantly.
Can anyone recall any significant contributors from the past sharing the same number the same season?
August 9th, 2010 at 11:22 AM ^
Offense vs Defense - so not sure why it matters to have double numbers. Unless you mean contributing on Special Teams at the same time.

Walk ons that are in camp are not listed
August 9th, 2010 at 10:07 AM ^
Any word on if Mike Shaw is academically eligible?
but Coach Rodriguez said he isn't ready yet.

Most importantly, Carvin Johnson is wearing lucky 13.
August 9th, 2010 at 10:12 AM ^
Because,
Carvin Johnson is not terribly fond of second place.
August 9th, 2010 at 10:17 AM ^
But Carvin Johnson is the player I am most excited to see play this year of the new guys*
*DG is not included as I fully expect him to redshirt

Love this picture. Should be on the cover of the playbook.
August 9th, 2010 at 11:21 AM ^
I love players that hate losing that much. That's one of the funniest pictures I've ever seen.
August 9th, 2010 at 10:09 AM ^
guy is 6'6" 200! wait a year or two and this guy is the next victor hobson.
August 9th, 2010 at 12:27 PM ^
That's assuming he fills out his frame. 6'6" 200 is extremely lanky, especially for a LB. As long as he doesn't pull a Mike Shaw and stay the same weight for 3 years, he could turn into a monster.
August 9th, 2010 at 10:11 AM ^
Tate and Denard essentially listed as the same weight with Denard being an inch shorter. BS.
August 9th, 2010 at 11:33 AM ^
I thought the same thing. There's no way unless Denard is actually like 5'11" and Tate is closer to 6'2." Denard looks like he's 200+ if he's actually six feet, and Tate looks like he MIGHT be 180 soaking wet.
I ran into Tate at Joe Louis Arena before the CCHA Championship game and there's no way he's taller than 5'10". He also has a really, realllly slight build.
Denard has hollow bones -- like a bird -- which enable him to fly.
There are a lot of factors in weight besides how much muscle you have. Hydration, bone structure, and height are huge factors. When I wrestled, I was really skinny at 5'8, right at 130, going up against guys that were maybe an inch shorter than me but were just downright jacked.
August 9th, 2010 at 12:43 PM ^
...for the ladies!
Anyone that's seen him on campus will agree:
Denard is no taller than 5'8.5"
I'm 5'10" and I think I had two inches on him.
August 9th, 2010 at 10:12 AM ^
Ahhh, yes... Fall is in the air. Life is good, my friends.
August 9th, 2010 at 10:13 AM ^
Holy crap - our LBs have gained some lbs. Mouton - 240? Bell - 245? Demens - 250? Obi - 250?
August 9th, 2010 at 10:16 AM ^
Yeah, if they can figure out where the ball is this year, they could possibly cause some problems.
He knows where the balls are.
August 9th, 2010 at 11:03 AM ^
Yes, this stood out the most to me as well. We'll have some BIG LB's this year, probably the biggest in the league. I suppose when your starters at LB are 2 5th year seniors and DE convert you would expect them to be big, but even subs like Bell and Demens are big. Don't forget JB Fitz at 244.
Big kids running around.
August 9th, 2010 at 11:45 AM ^
From T-Wolf during media days...I assume he included Jonas in this as the "they":
"Obi Ezeh have gotten bigger in the offseason, but they're probably faster than they were before they added the weight. They're able to run with receivers deep, too. They "look like supreme athletes out there." Troy has confidence that they'll be able to put it all together this year, and be two of the best linebackers in the nation."
August 9th, 2010 at 10:13 AM ^
Good to see Pace listed at 280. If thats true hes not far back from Molk, even as a true freshman. He will hit 300 by the time he is a SO.
August 9th, 2010 at 10:24 AM ^
Martin's at 299? What, they can't round up a little? Or have him step off the scale, hand him a box of cupcakes to get through, and then try again?
August 9th, 2010 at 10:24 AM ^
because it would scare the hell out of Stephen Hopkins.
August 9th, 2010 at 10:37 AM ^
He'll get some delicious snacky-cakes in the third game of the year.
August 9th, 2010 at 11:35 AM ^
Older people here may remember the famous 297/298/299 # linemen of past years at Michigan. For some psychological reason, the coaches didn't want to advertise their 300+ pounders.
