First Game Digs/Reactions

Submitted by Route66 on
Where will you be on Saturday, September 5 when WMU comes to Ann Arbor and the Wolverines usher in a new season of football? More importantly, what will your reaction be when we score our first touchdown and it is a play that goes for 57 yards? I would ask a question about when the opposite happens, but I like to stay positive and prefer not to think about what it will cost to repair drywall. I will be hanging out alone in my basement watching the 50" Samsung with the drapes closed sitting on the edge of the couch snacking on some snacks anxiously awaiting kickoff with my knees bouncing.(logged on to the CIL...if Brian has it) When we rip off our first(of many) long TD's, I will most likely launch off of the edge of the couch into a 1980's Toyotaesque commercial jump, swearing hysterically and pointing at the fireplace and TV as if they caused the 3-9 Season of Death. Self-control of any kind will be lost in that moment.(unless, of course, my 4 year old daughter is there with me) Then those words will be under my breath while she looks at me with the same blank, amazed stare she had when I fell off the ladder in the garage hanging one of her toys in the rafters. Anyone else ready for this season?

If it is Tate scampering 57 yards for a TD, I want to be in Greenville and watch a kid and his bulldog, in their Michigan gear, running around town looking for someone to hug, ala Jim Valvano.

My mom and her brother have 4 tickets in section 17. Since my Uncle will be moving to South Carolina in a few years, I'm hoping that Michigan will once again allow tickets to be transferred to a new name. Then I'd take his two tickets. So, hopefully in the next few years, I'll be sitting in section 17 (row 35 or 37, I don't remember off-hand). I, unfortunately, don't know where I'll be for the game since I no longer have student tickets and I don't know where I'll be living by then (I'm looking for a job).

I will be in my apartment watching the game with my door locked, cell phone off and with no interruption. Not even for an emergency. Not even for my girlfriend.(well maybe for my girlfriend since she is accompanying me to the EMU game ) When we rip off a long touchdown, I will be in my #10 jersey and grey sweatpants screaming "go Brandon" as he runs past the defense. And proceed to clap loudly for all to hear. My bodily fluid might be lost for a few costly moments.

a better subject header. A friendly reminder. Lots of SUGAR COAT. To your question, I'm ready for the season. Looking forward to it.

Oh, "My bad" is probably worth a minus one too. You would think with my education in El. Ed I would have caught that wrong two/to/too. Minus one to you for correcting people on internets message boards....oh wait, that is now minus 2. Look past the mistakes. That Saturday, I will be anxiously waiting for the game to start. I'll be sitting on my coach going crazy everytime we score, and pissed everytime they score. Man I can't wait for the season to start!

Labor Day weekend and lots of things tend to pop up (especially things I love like BBQs). Anyway, my plan is to stay home and watch on my plasma with surround sound. Barring that if there is a BBQ to attend, I'll leave early and go to a bar that has the game and hopefully sound.

Either at one of the Michigan bars with friends, or at my apartment. All depends on my confidence level going into the game.

I plan on starting the tailgate at 9:00am or so, and I plan to put away at least 1 glass boot (probably 2 though) of some type of Oktoberfest (either Sam Adams or Hacker Pshorr, most likely) before game time. I'll buy my tix off of either eBay or StubHub, so I'm not sure where I'll be siting inside yet. Goddammit, September 5th can't come fast enough. Longest and worst offseason everrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Hacker Pschorr Oktoberfest = +1, the real thing Sam Adams Oktoberfest = -10, not even close, but drinkable Paulaner Oktoberfest = +100... the best, if you can find it All IMHO, of course. I just found the Paulaner O'fest available here to be the closest thing to what they serve at O'fest in Munich, with Hacker Pschorr coming pretty darn close as well. Sorry...had to jump in here, as I've been salivating for the O'fest beers to come around again.

Paulaner's Oktoberfest is great too, I agree. I haven't had the privilege of going to the real thing in Munich yet, so I don't know what the closest thing is that's available here. I think Hacker Pschorr is my favorite, but it's tough to go wrong with any of them (just don't try Beck's Octoberfest -- fucking terrible, plus it's what I drank at my tailgate before the Toledo game last year ... ugh). Fall Beer + Football = Heaven

No Beck's for me either. Too bad, man.... bad taste left in your mouth by both that game and the beer. Honestly, I usually do Oberon for the first 2-3 tailgates since it's usually pretty hot out still. And those 5L mini-kegs sure do come in handy. But O'fest beers after that for sure.

I will likely already be 3 sheets to the wind due to drinking as soon as Game Day starts. I will swear for an hour about what a D-bag Herbrstreit is, and reminisce about the time my brother saw Corso with his fly open. I will meet up with OSU fans and rag on them about being from Ohio, and pray their star player once again goes down with some sort of lame sounding injury. After that, off to the many Chicago bars w/ an M flag hangning outside. I will then proceed to rip the glasses off an opposing fan and chew them in my mouth in an effort to show how meaty/loyal I am. I will set a precedent for all M fans in Chicago, letting all who encounter me know that we are not to be F'ed with.....or I just may watch it at home on the big screen.

Will be at 9:30 pm in Rome, where I'll be completing the 2nd week of a 3 week tour of Europe. If anyone has any idea about figuring out how to watch the game - preferably at a bar, since it'll be perfect timing (Night Game, BABY!) - PLEASE send me ideas; I'll be on the lookout for the rest of the summer. Fortunately, I'll be meeting up there with a good buddy from undergrad who will be on his honeymoon at the time. Thankfully his future wife understands our Michigan Football (well, Michigan sports in general) disorder, and will allow us to watch the game in Rome before they take off on a Mediterranean cruise. Also fortunately, I'll be touching down at O'Hare the next week in time to make it out to the bar in Chicago to catch the ND game!

That one is going to be insanely difficult. Your best bet is to get a sling box and rig it to your home cable, and then find a bar there with free wifi, and watch the game on your laptop.

Sebilicious comes thru, I may be at the game. If he does not, I will be at home fashioning a voodoo doll and watching the game on my tayvay. potato salad My brother in law said he saw RR picking up hookers in Detroit the other day. He should know. He is a police officer in Australia. Just sayin.

I'll be at the game with a lot of alcohol in my system. When we score our first TD I will probably yell and drunkenly say "Fuck yeah". Then I invision BlueFront95 crying behind me wondering what the world has come to with all the swearing going on. My guess is he will yell "down in front" at me and I'll probably not hear him because I will be drunk, obnoxious, and in a world of my own.

good to hear. I was jp. Your projected game-day experience sounds eerily similar to mine FWIW. Being a senior this year, I want to make this a season to remember (or I guess forget) by living it up for every game too.

And what exactly is the 'frat-tastic route' you speak of. I'm in a fraternity and will get drunk on State St. w/ my fraternity and a sorority before the game. I wont be passing out. I wont be showing up in the 2nd qtr. I wont be yelling incoherent things at the game but will make as much noise as I can. I would say it's mostly chicks that dont make it to the game. 90% of frat guys get there on-time or reasonably on time and the ones that don't are huge football fans. Not every frat guy passes out in a drunken rage, you know.

With the family circus, very tough to get 3 uninterrupted hours of TV. Answer: TiVo. Takes about an hour to watch and I can pause when bothered. I'd rather be at Michigan Stadium, but such is life.
