There is no ranking. Just 11 QB and one MVP announced at the very end...
Hey but every kid is a winner...
odd camp...not sure what to pull from it shane mentioned every day as being the top if not close to the top performer, and not even on the list??
But isn't this camp sponsored by ESPN who is making a television show out of it? While I agree with your argument that recruiting sites have a vested interest in keeping an enormous fanbase interested, so does ESPN. If Morris had been ranked in the Top 11, I would have watched or set my DVR to ESPN's special on this camp. Now I have no interest in doing so.
I'm sure Shane will take the Heisman over the (so-called) Elite 11 anyday.
double post fail
Some people were ranting and raving about Morris but I guess the guys who ranked the actual event were seeing something very differently.
Yes and no. Dozens of big named recruiting people watched this. Most had Morris in the top 2, give or take. Sure Trent Dilfer is the one who "ranks" the event, but he apparently uses a very different set of criteria than pretty much everyone else.
a double post broken up like that...
Mother of God..
Yeah, I was about to comment on that too. That's pretty amazing; quite the anomaly...
would you say... Tremendous?
I get plenty of MgoBlog.
Everyone is well aware of the indisputable fact that West Quad is, in fact, the best quad...
4th Fl Rumsey
Neighbors with G-Mat and Stevie Brown. Carl Hagelin was down the hall. Had some interesting weekends...
You missed his first thread where he went off on Dilfer being a douchebag etc. It got bad enough that someone asked him if Dilfer banged his girlfriend. I think people are giving him the upvotes for being more humorous and less RCMB in his Dilfer hate.
Also, Dilfer is definitely the worst SB winning QB ever. I'm pretty sure literally any QB in the NFL that year would've won the SB on the Ravens.
Just because he played in the NFL doesn't mean he's a good coach and evaluator. Just because you coach high school football doesn't mean you are great at evaluating talent. And no, I don't read your blog so I literally have no idea what your thoughts are. You could be a guru for all I know. Not that I even disagree with you, but your point doesn't really say anything either way IMO.
They do, in fact, do this for a living. Just b/c they're not physical specimens that made it big in football doesn't mean their understanding of the game is any less. When they spend every day of their work week analyzing and talking football prospects, I think that qualifies them as experts.
Screw those ESPN jagoffs...I'm starting a fund to bring Tom back home.
Who is mitch sherman? Looks like the kid that was always picked last and has a grudge against the good kids.
Nebraska alum and covered Huskers for several years after graduating. Best part of the story: Nebraska commit Johnny Stanton was at the top of the rankings for most of the weekend, and he left twice during the competition to go to his HS team's 7-on-7 practice. Stanton still made the Elite 11.
Yes, he's not a finished product like the other 17 year olds who haven't started their senior year in high schools yet. 'Not a finished product' is such an illogical justification.
My personal Elite 11 after 5 days and 32 or so throws: 1. Morris 2. Olsen 3. Woulard 4. Browne 5. Goff 6. Ramsey 7. Bateman 8. Dobbs cont.
I forgot Anthony Jennings... 8. Jennings 9. Dobbs 10. Hackenberg 11 Kincade... Sorry AJ
"There's some people you just can't reach".
Yeah Shane sort of plays with a Brett Favre philosophy something Dilfer just isn't talented enough to do.
But these are pretty sophisticated scouts. They don't seem like the "Wow, kid throw ball hard, make completion. He good" type. They can recognize a bad read/forced throw when they see one.
I would imagine coachability was emphasized every day. Not just one day. And your check down is there if there's nothing downfield. I can't imagine why Shane would be punished for going for the big play....and succeeding. If it happens a couple times, it could be luck. But it happened the whole camp. Everybody but Dilfer thought Shane was one of the top guys there, if not the top guy. I'll take the majority opinion on this one as Shane was considered a top QB in the nation before this camp, during this camp and will most likely move up in ranking on all the sites besides maybe ESPN.
Most aren't attacking him or his character, but his evaluation abilities. I guess we shouldn't have criticized RR because he was just helping young men? Just because Dilfer was a pro QB doesn't mean he is a good coach or evaluator. Just as because he wasn't a HOF doesn't mean he can't be either. It's not like these scouts are watching from booths. They're in the stands and I don't think there's a huge crowd watching so they can probably hear quite a bit of what the staff is saying. And you can pretty much get the gist of the drill by watching the 20 or so QBs repeat the reps. The only part they don't see is the classroom portion IIRC. And I can't imagine that Shane is that bad at watching flim or paying attention that he could go from being one of the top QBs on the field to being out of the 11. And it's not like this is their first Elite 11 they're analyzing. They've covered it for a long time or talk to colleagues who have covered it.
That guy's opinion was dismissed because his reasoning was pathetic. "Not a finished product" is a factual description of every QB there. Either way, I'll trust the numerous scouts' take more seriously considering they were all in agreement that Shane had a great week. I understand what you're trying to say. But we have a variety of opinions from differing, unbiased sources. And a clear majority of them believe Shane had one of the best performances there. It's not like we're cominmg to this based on one throw. It was every day, throughout the day that these tweets stated the same thing. Shane was great and I'm encouraged by this performance.
It's a bad read if the 47 yard TD is because the WR out jumped two DBs in the endzone. If the 47 yard TD hit the WR in stride just as he broke away from his coverage, then it's a good read regardless if it wasn't the primary one. Unless the whole point of the play is to 'Dilfer' and check down...
I predict as a result of this slap to the face, Shane breaks EVERY NCAA FBS record out there. 5 National Championships, 7 B10 rings, 19,000 yards passing, 2 1/2 Heismans, and he goes 12-0 vs ND, MSU, & Ohio........
