Edit: Twitter is BACK
EDIT: All it needed was a thread, I guess. I was just able to log on. Let me know if you are able to.
What a disaster.
Try to visit Twitter. You can't!
This better get back up by the time the games start tonight. Appartently there were two waves of DDoS attacks by some morans with nothing better to do.

Hopefully it's not those same idiots who took down that network for a month in 2011.

servers...Twitter, Netflix, Visa, Vonage, Air BB, etc. which essentially tucked up the day for a lot of companies and people.
October 21st, 2016 at 9:21 PM ^
I read that it was a trial attack with a bigger attack to follow.

I believe at least one of them got arrested; unfortunately, there's no shortages of boys (in terms of maturity or actual age) with too much time on their hands who want to break things for fun and attention.
October 21st, 2016 at 4:42 PM ^
has been working fine all day. Why sweat all that other social media stuff when this place is up and running?!
*if I have to explain...

DDoS is just so stupid. Took all of an hour to get our ISPs to filter the traffic to avoid being attacked after being threatened by anonymous.

This appears to be using the same system that popped up about a week ago. This isn't your bog standard DDoS. They are using an unprecedented level of bandwidth via exploited "IoT" devices. The post mortem when Krebs on Security was hit had peak bandwidth of > 600 Gb/s. And these aren't you typical script kiddie syn fload attacks. These new botnets are sending constant streams of real requests making filtering significantly more difficult.
So these new attacks are so big they are overwelming full on trunks and much more advanced making filtering more difficult.

I'm not sure that you can categorize not being able to use twitter as a "disaster". First world problems.
October 21st, 2016 at 4:28 PM ^
Who cares? We live in a first world country.
October 21st, 2016 at 4:48 PM ^
Ok - but a disaster? Geez, let's go with no.

I'm in Northern Minnesota, and I haven't been affected at all. Pain in the neck for a lot of people, though.

I think the real disaster is the map you used. Where are the Great Lakes?
October 21st, 2016 at 5:41 PM ^
You can't see them because Twitter is down in the lakes.

And we won't go near Twitter.
1. It's for morons with no attention span and low household incomes.
2. Seriously, what year is it.
But go ahead and follow what famous people who shouldn't be famous rant about.

Meh, twitter is worthwhile if you want to follow actual news events due to multiple international verifiable sources (having to parse through the nonsense of course).
Wikileaks alone is worth using twitter.
Also easy on the class-warfare stuff, we don't exactly live in an unexploitative country last time anyone checked.
