Down go the Gophers

Kinnick stadium magic is still alive. I think the Gophers were a bit overrated anyway. Fleck's boat sprung a big leak

Never was there a greater paper tiger. They drop 3 games at least if they play Michigan's schedule up to now.

100% They are .500 with Michigan's schedule. They lose to Army, PSU (at PSU), Notre Dame, Wisconsin and maybe even MSU. I for one was happy to see Iowa win. Wisconsin will win too.  So sick of these schools who play a nobody schedule and only have to get up for one or two games (Clemson). Teams like Michigan have a bullseye on their back every game and play a tough schedule. Indiana will be a tough game next week then of course OSU.

That wasn't the point. I did not say Michigan is the only team that has a target on their back every game. Of course other blue blood programs have the same target (ND, OSU, PSU, USC, Alabama, ETC). My point was, there are schools who don't have a target on their back until they are highly rated. Michigan could be 3-5 and opponents will have some extra motivation because it is Michigan. Like this weekend. Indiana will be sky high for Michigan (especially since Hart is on coaching staff).  Michigan coming off an emotional win, it will be a tough game. Nationally, Minnesota was getting little attention until they were 8-0 playing PSU.  Year in and year out, Michigan is one of the top draws on TV, go look at TV ratings the past couple years. Michigan is at or near the top for total TV audience each year. So, it isn't just me that thinks Michigan is a big deal, viewers and advertisers do as well.

I really don’t understand how you can come to that conclusion. Minnesota loses by 4 points on the road in Kinnick in a big game and now you have them going .500 if they played our schedule.

We have multiple mutual opponents and it’s clear that we and Minnesota are not very far away on the field. I’d say very close actually, and you’ll likely see that manifested in the rankings this week (whether it be CFP, S&P+, AP, USA Today, or whatever metric you want to use) . We get a little hot and feel full of ourselves.

Minnesota beat South Dakota State, Fresno State and Georgia Southern by a total of 13 pts.  Right now, if Minnesota had played ND (Home), PSU (whiteout at night), Wisconsin (home) and Iowa (home) would they be 9-1?  I don't think so.

Offensively I agree we are not that far apart and maybe even an edge to Minnesota because this is year 3 for Flecks offense and Michigan installed a new offense at beginning of year.  Defensively, not even close, Michigan way ahead.  Looks like Michigan is finding itself offensively but you can tell it is still a work in progress.

Let's see what Fleck can do year in and year out. Win 9 + games for the next 3 years and then you have something.  And that is playing in the much weaker Western Conference.

You mean like the same way we played Iowa close at home? Lol chill out hoss. You’re wrong for thinking we march into Kinnick and run shit no problem. We beat Iowa 10-3... Sure we’ve gotten better since then but throw in the element of a big night game in Kinnick and I’m not sure we would have “kicked the shit out of Iowa” - it would’ve been a game.

I know we’re high on ourselves because we just beat a rival but let’s not disregard top 25 teams [especially if in the hypothetical we would’ve been on the road ;) ].

So just relax hoss. Enjoy the win. It’s ok that other teams are also good. No need to hate.

PSU finished 2008 #5 in S&P+, and Iowa #6.

#6 beating #5 at home on a game-ending Field Goal?  Sounds exactly like what one would expect.

I understand why it's a thing - but this board meme about "magical" Kinnick doesn't jive with the actual facts.  Wisconsin is 5-0 there this decade.  Purdue & Northwestern have won there in November within the last 2 years.  An FCS team won there in 2016.

I’m not memeing anything dude. Iowa consistently outplays and beats much higher ranked teams at Kinnick. Just because they haven’t done it against Wisconsin doesn’t mean it isn’t true. Your Purdue and northwestern examples are irrelevant because they weren’t good teams.

Also, I’d love to know what the s&p+ for Iowa was when they were 5-4 entering the PSU game. Their ranking after finishing 9-4 and winning 4 straight isn’t really going to represent how big of an upset the PSU win was.

Consistently?  No.  The facts simply don't bear that out.

Including today, Iowa is still only 4-4 over the last 4 years in home games against ranked teams.

Including today, Iowa is 4-10 this decade in home games against ranked teams.

Iowa is 1-8 this decade in home games against Wisconsin and Penn State.  8 of those 9 Wisky/PSU teams won at least 9 games, and the other won 8, so they were all pretty good.

Ha!

I think we'd all written that off already, but the "so you're saying there's a chance" died today when Indiana missed hanging a 2nd L on Penn State by only one touchdown, losing 34-27.

Penn St finishes w Rutger.

ESPN is giving PSU a 15% chance to beat OSU next weekend.

This is the only original and genuine thread on Minnesota. All others are cheap imitations and fake news.

Well P.J. Fleck, you had a great season at Western.  Also that commercial of you rowing a boat with the Gopher mascot while wearing clothes so clashy and attention-whore they'd make a millenial blush.

Minnesota lost.  Auburn lost.  Figure Michigan moves up two in the CFP poll.

Michigan likely to move ahead of the loser of the Oklahoma/Baylor game.  Hopefully, Michigan occupies the #12 slot in the CFP on Monday evening.

Really hoping Michigan can get into the CFP top-ten before the Ohio State game.
