Such bullshit posting.

macdonald went because ravens got rid of old dc sooner than expected. This was always going to happen.

gattis had hr issues.  Harbaugh saved him last year.

Actually no I don’t.  If you want to think it’s bullshit go ahead. Of course, you’re believing people who are saying 1) it has to be more money- but they have no clue 2) it’s because he’d be passed over for hc- which is yes because of what i said but if you didn’t know that how do you know that’s true or if it’s true that’s why or 3) he’s upset at Harbaugh looking at the nfl- you have no idea . When did gattis say this?

why don’t you think about it for awhile.
think about why gattis felt such a debt to harbaugh- per his Broyles award speech- but then leaves. Because his ass was saved by Harbaugh but he had to go now.  Why a lesser job? Hmmm why when you have a contender?
the easiest solution to an hr problem is to make it someone else’s problem.

Good programs lose coordinators. Losing both in one year sucks but it seems like both replacements will be in house so there’s not going to be a continuity loss. It’s better to lose coordinators due to success than whatever the f is happening at Osu

Yup, we are soooo bummed out at tOSU.  You beat us for the first time in 10 years and then.....your HC goes looking for another job on NSD (with the Vikings no less!) and you lose BOTH your coordinators.  Meanwhile, we hire arguably the best DC in the biz.  You can put whatever spin you want to on this but I gotta tell you.....we are so excited to host Jimmy and whoever ends coordinating your O & D into The Shoe come November.  Let the games begin.

I guess you conveniently forgot 62 and 56 the previous years.  And that 62 was a mercy score.  Yup, you're right.. last year we only scored 27 thanks to your great DC and #97.  Oh, what's that you say?  They're both gone?  Uh-Oh.  But I enjoy your comments.  And I do love The Rivalry.

Well....I sacrificed so much personally to stand in this discussion with you which i would never take back. Unfortunately the past few days has told a different story to me about the very little appreciation i have here from this board.   In life i would never advise anyone to be where they are not wanted, but.... I enjoy you guys and after all.......it's just good fun now, isn't it?

Losing both coordinators after a season like that is so Michigan. Maybe if in the days following our playoff game we were signing coaches to extensions instead of playing grabass with the NFL we would be in a better spot? This should be Harts time but I dont want to lose Moore in the shuffle. Both coordinators gone and neither became a head coach. Wow.

But Im not talking about Mac im talking about Michigan. Its Feb 6th and we have exactly zero coordinators. Glad Mac moved up after one season but I dont see Georgia losing any coordinators from a squad that kicked our ass. Sometimes its a strange mix of getting your ass kicked by Georgia, Bama, and OSU (usually) but the NFL NEEDS our coaches like they have the antidote. Just gets old that is all I am saying.

Re. McDonald's departure:  Get a grip.  He left his college DC position here to become DC of the NFL team from whence he came.  Given that opportunity, is his leaving really a surprise?

Re. Gattis' departure:  Who knows?  You're suggesting he'd still be on staff if Harbaugh hadn't interviewed with the Vikings, but why do you think so?

I think you're looking at this backwards.  Gattis interviewed for the head coaching job at Virginia.  That's a sign that he thinks he's ready to move up the ladder, not that he wants to be a career assistant.  I don't think he will be long in the Miami OC position.

I take this as a sign that Jim is serious about not listening to the NFL anymore and that he may be looking for an OC who's more willing to commit long-term.

With everything Michigan's offense is bringing back next year.......why would any OC make at best a lateral move????

People get passed by. People are told to look around if they want to maintain their position. Gattis can be an OC for Miami next year. If he could have been OC for Michigan next year......why leave????

Wrong - Macdonald took his dream job. Gattis took… a weird job.  Perhaps he knows he can be head coach in waiting in Miami.  It seems apparent that he was not next in line after Harbaugh (despite that one recent terrible post proclaiming him as head coach for this season).

If we lose the other talented staff members like Hart, Bellamy, Clinkscale, Moore - then your post would make sense.

I love our staff. I will definitely miss Macdonald. It is not clear how much of a role Gattis had in this most recent season’s improvements as the offense had more of Harbaugh’s fingerprints than in Gattis’ previous underwhelming years at the helm.

It HAS to hurt to lose two Coordinators.  I can see returning to the NFL: there are Pro coaches and College coaches; not everyone can do both.  But Gattis?  There has to be some interaction issues with the HC.

Not necessarily sure promoting from within is always the best policy.  For us, Day turned out good, but we've had some promoted to OC or DC over the years that were a disaster at best.  DC example was Coombs; great DB coach, but no experience at DC.  Then there was Warinner at OC; good line coach, terrible OC and bad recruiter.

I don't think this is yet at the level of a staff implosion or proof of anything seriously wrong internally. The Gattis departure is the only one that feels even a little weird

MacDonald's exit makes perfect sense and nothing Michigan could've done, including winning a national title, would've kept him. Maybe a promotion to HC, but even then, he's an NFL guy and the job he'd wanted for a long time came open

Nua's departure definitely doesn't seem like a big deal and, much as I think Nua did a decent job in the end, Elston is probably a meaningful upgrade and also someone Michigan has been eyeing for a while

I will concede that the timing of the Gattis departure, and the fact that he's taking what is now a step down to what projects as a much worse offense next year, are kinda strange. Who knows what the deal is there. I'll assume he's getting more money at Miami and various other promises, but it's still a slight step down and late in the cycle. But one highly sought-after coach leaving when his stock is high doesn't feel too bad to me, nor is it worth dwelling on. An unhealthy program will have guys leaving with their stock down, whereas a healthy program will have guys leaving when their stock is rising

I'd rather have retained Gattis, but would have been more concerned if Sherrone Moore or Clinkscale had left.

Gattis has done well bringing in SPEED at WR, and I think Harbaugh and the rest of the staff has learned its value and how to identify HS athletes with that speed. And I think Bellamy can keep the WR room together. Other than WR speed, some TE 3rd down passes and orbit motions, it felt like the other improvements were not solely from Gattis.

Without knowing the inner workings/personal dynamics, it would have been better to retain Gattis for another year, but I'm not convinced his leaving will hinder our forward progress much

Thanks, Jim, for screwing around with the Vikings, a team with as good of a shot at a Super Bowl as a bunch of actual Vikings.

Gattis, thanks for nothing, hope you're a bust, like everyone else there since the move to the ACC.
