Differing opinions on Michigan's future.

This from Pat Caputo:

Rich Rodriguez's "Fun Ball" is not going to win championships. It's more the stuff for Conference USA and flea bag bowl games. Rodriguez probably secured his position for next season with that goofball victory Saturday. Does that make it good news for Wolverines fans?

The Wolverines should beat Purdue, which is devastated by injuries, this week. That makes the Wolverines at least 7-5 this season, heading into games vs. Wisconsin and Ohio State. I suppose the only wild card in this equation could be an utterly embarrassing loss at Ohio State. Wonder what Jim Tressel would do in that spot. Would he pour it on? Rub it in? Or would he pull back under the guise of sportsmanship, knowing he'd keep what looks like a good thing for Ohio State going in Ann Arbor?

Now this from Pete Fiutak of Collegefootballnews.com. He is the insider for ESPN's Allnight with Jason Smith.

"If I am a Michigan fan right now, this year really doesn't matter. I mean it's nice, Michigan is going to a bowl, yeah this is fun I am really fired up. They are putting in all these guys on offense, it doesn't matter who is at Quarterback. We are rolling through everybody. If we can do anything with our defense, we go from being an also ran in the B10, to special". He closed by saying... I think there is a lot of reason to be fired up if your a Michigan fan.

Being a Michigan fan who is hoping for the best, I lean towards Fiutak. I am going on the assumption, that the steps to fix the defense will be taken. The defense going forward will be experienced and deeper. The offense will be the Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Dispatching foes with ruthless efficiency, and leaving nothing but destruction in their wake.

Who the hell is Pat Caputo? I'm not asking that because he doesn't like the long term picture of Michigan, I'm asking that because I've never heard of the guy.

Where in the heck did you dig up that photo......

Certainly is not a professional mug shot and looks far to close to be some casual snapshot....

I hate to admit it, but Pat and I hail from the same city.....

Would love to run into him some day to tell him that his BS statment of "Ummmmm...The 'S' on my chest stands for straight down the middle....."

Yeah sure, whatever you say there Pat.....

...is that the Oakland Press is a small suburban newspaper servicing SE Michigan and that Pat Caputo has been writing for them for a LONG time.  That's right folks, the NY Times, Washington Post, or LA Times have never snatched this talent away as hard as that may be to believe.

I know it sounds far fecthed but If we get enough quality defensive recruits to sign over the next 2 classes we should be well on our way to winning a championship (not necessarily in two years mind you). An improving defense will help solidify RRod's job and once he's well entrenched at Michigan the championships will come...

Anything done by Pat Caputo should be given "Bleacher Report Treatment" on this board. Fiutak seems to have a good idea of the situation.

Pat Caputo coined the term "Wallmart Wolverines" and is VERY anti-Michigan and anti-RichRod.  He writes for the fishwrap known as the Oakland Press.

His opinion of Rich's future means as much to me as Drew Sharp's does.  Absofuckinglutely nothing.

Honest question - how many days does the Oakland Press print actual newspapers?

Curious - I know that the Ann Arbor News prints zero, Annarbor.com assembles a collection of previously posted online articles and drops them on certain driveways twice  a week, I think the Detroit News and the paper that will not be named here print 2 or 3 days a week....but what about the Oakland Press?

I can't imagine they run a well trafficked website.  I've never actually seen a hard copy of the paper.  I've heard it referenced a number of times...but really...what is it?

(Yes, I could google it and find out easily.  I choose to pose the question here so that Caputo's worth and impact can be put in context).

Caputo always reminds me of that large guy in college who holds the tap to the keg.  You have to listen to him blather on about something that makes no sense so that you can get a beer.

Is this guy an ex-kindergarten teacher ?  Whoa ... what a witty vocabulary !!

There is no doubt the defense needs to improve, but when you have an offense that NO defense can stop that puts incredible pressure on the other team's offense to score.  If we can regularly get up 2 scores early in a game - that may change the opponent's offensive strategy.  And if you can change their strategy ... you then have the advantage !!!  Get teams down 3 & 4 scores and they will give up ....

Go Blue !
