Deontay Burnett tweets that he has not committed to Michigan - EDIT: Things are getting weird
I have not committed to Michigan.

I can't wait for Wednesday to get here.
EDIT:
Story soon from @GregBiggins on Deontay Burnett. His recruitment took abrupt turn that doesn't include #Michigan. Greg taking it from here

Steve Lorenz had said that he was asked to wait to announce the commitment until Burnett got back to Cali, but Gorney must have leaked it early. He probably committed to the coaches but didn't want it public.

Per Sam Webb on Twitter.
This has been a strange recruiting season.

signing day, Harbaugh would be a fool to not have non committable offers out there. I am hoping this means that Jefferson is the reason.
I think Harbaugh has a pretty good idea what is happening on signing day. I hope it's going to be a fun day but Michian will be the school everyone is talking about. There is a lot up in the air.

This is a colossal cluster-fuck of extremely poor communications on the part of several parties.
I hope this isn't a case of a "non-commitable offer"— I don't believe offers should be extended if they're not 100% redeemable, so to speak. If that's not the case here, then either UM offered and Burnett accepted but things got screwed up when it became public prematurely, or no offer was extended but somehow Burnett thought there was.

offer. Call it a conditional offer, if you like. The staff can let recruits know where they stand. It doesn't need to be as black and white as you have an offer or you don't. It's possible to let the players know there is a pecking order rather than it's always first come, first served.
It's possible Burnett didn't want this news out until he got home because he was waiting for a response from the staff. It's possible there was a miscommunication with the staff or with Gorney. Hard for us to tell from here.

By subsection of the website do you mean it would be nice to have most of the topics and conversations around recruiting off to one side of the website? Maybe on some kind of board like area for messages or other topics?

I was being a bit rude to him for no real reason other than I get annoyed with the people who complain about message board posts. If you are that tired of reading stuff on recruiting don't click on the thread, I don't believe they are that obtrusive. I also think there are plenty of non-recruiting threads right now that it is easy to avoid it on the board if you want.

did not have the time to recruit this cycle, so when you are trying to flip kids late these are the type of things that happen. I'll be happy if we can pick up a couple more on NSD.
February 1st, 2015 at 7:18 PM ^
Yeah, Harbaugh and all, but Hoke and co. did much better when they came in with even less time. We aren't getting four commits on national signing day, that rarely if ever happens to one school.

Those players had profiles like Burnett's. Except they actually committed.

February 1st, 2015 at 7:54 PM ^
Harbaugh also has guys like Chris Clark, Tyrone Wheatley, and Van Jefferson favoring us or highly considering us which Hoke didn't have. Why fill up your roster with MAC guys when you could have a big NSD. How many players did Hoke flip from Nebraska or Texas in 2011?
February 1st, 2015 at 11:54 PM ^
You sure are right about Hoke and signing day. None of us ever watched the Malik show play out. Convient argument though.
February 1st, 2015 at 7:44 PM ^
Hoke didn't do any better. He offered a ton of mac recruits and flipped them. Harbaugh could do that if he wanted to but we have a small class and he wants people that will contribute.
February 1st, 2015 at 7:48 PM ^
Oh come on. The guys most likely to commit/have committed had similar profiles to Tamani Carter or Keith Heitzman. Chris Clark's situation is comparable to a guy like Chris Bryant. If we're banking on four commits on NSD then that is not a good sign. Marshall and Smith especially are still significant longshots.

I don't know either. I figure on a couple of the known targets going blue on NSD but that leaves some open spots. Hopefully Harbaugh has a contingency plan or two.Guess we will see!

Pretty much everybody was below a 4 star and best had their best offers from Minnesota or Purdue in 2011, but let's not let that get in the way of a mgoblog meltdown. we're still waiting for most of our recruits to announce on wednesday. Explain to me why it is such a big deal that we're missing someone from Washington State.
