Very interesting!

Who saw this a year or two ago?

Delano Hill, baby!

What an opportunity for him on that defense.

With Brady as our QB, we were good enough to beat everyone including FSU led by a junior Chris Weinke and a junior Peter Warrick.

The Brady/Henson nonsense derailed a championship season in my opinion. (But the home loss to Illinois coming off the BYE after the MSU loss was just inexplicable.)

And it's because of the Brady/Henson thing that I'm very cautious during the Speight/Peters debates. The fans that remember Brady in 1996 remember how different he was as an upperclassman.

I'm not sure we were quite good enough to beat a loaded FSU, but then, who knows? We did, after all, have a loaded offense.

I believe the coaching philosophy would not have allowed Michigan to beat MSU no matter who was QB (so long as things weren't out of hand they would try to run the ball unsuccessfully, and MSU was scoring at will--Tom Brady was the right man to come back, but he needed a big deficit to convince Carr to allow him to sling it late in the game). As you say, the Illinois game was just bizarre and inexplicable.

And if we get to the Sugar Bowl that year? We probably lose... but only probably. And not embarrassed either. That team was loaded.

Carr was a very good coach but Moeller was better in my opinion. (For the youngins: he was our DC and then our OC before being promoted to HC.) If Moeller doesn't do whatever the hell he did to get fired, I think Michigan adopts a more wide open passing attack in the mid-90s. Not something as extreme as Spurrier's fun-and-gun at Florida but certainly something with more downfield passing than what we showcased under DeBord. Perhaps my judgment is off but, in my opinion, Michigan made speed a priority and recruited more athletes under Moeller.

I love Harbaugh's emphasis on speed. We're getting players with great size but we're going for speed. Don Brown essentially runs Jimmy Johnson's Miami 4-3 which changed football. When Johnson got to Miami, he ran Olivadotti's 3-4 in 1984 because he was the DC holdover from Schenellenbger's staff. The following year, Johnson switched Miami to the 4-3 becasue he realized Miami produced faster/quicker athletes. So he basically shifted the positions one position up. DEs became DTs, OLBs became DEs, Strong Safeties became LBs. Miam was a bit undersized but they made up for it with blinding, swarming speed.

"... Miami produced faster/quicker athletes ..."

Sorry, I don't buy that. (Never have ...) I think he could've run that defense just fine with (well-coached) guys from Chicago, Detroit, and Cleveland. It's just that he was smart enough to see the value of speed. He understood that you can get away with fast, undersized linemen and linebackers at the college level. (For some reason this escaped the prior UMich regimes.)

Aside, I agree on Moeller. It's a fascinating -- and underrated -- "what if" scenario in UMich football history.

deserved the chance to ride or die on the way to a NC or not a NC (or at least to a Big Ten title).

There was no reason a senior shouldn't have had the chance to win it all or fall short because of a kid who was at best (he wasn't) even with him coming into the season.

BS and in the end he's probably more than gotten over it and I haven't.

unless you're referring to the fact that a lot of these guys were juniors on the Orange Bowl squad.  In that case, you're absolutely right!

The 2000 team on which these guys were seniors was actually kind of similar to last year's squad, now that I think about it.  Immensely talented, obviously, and also lost three games away from home, each in heartbreaking fashion.

At least that year we won at OSU - the last time we have accomplished that.  Ugh.

I have a fond memory of him making the game ending PBU in the shootout in Bloomington against IU in 15.  Glad to see all our guys making it to the next level!!!

Yes, they were high on all the Michigan guys...which is to be expected from McShay who did every damn game for us this year.

McShay said he thought he got better the more he watched his tape. Very physical and always takes the right angles in run support. Not elite range, but he can cover.

Kiper agreed.

Kiper was just talking about Lewis when McShay just jumped over him and started talking Lewis up like he was Charles Woodson lite. He loves him.

Everyone had good things to say about Darboh, especially McShay who pointed out that Chesson was supposed to be the guy going into the year and Darboh got better each game. Louis Riddick talked about how Darboh torched a few of the DBs drafted ahead of him. They also talked about how he ran better at the combine than expected.

This is an excellent opportunity for him. Chancellor is going to be 30 and an unrestricted free agent after this season. I'm surpised he went in the 3rd round, but good for him.

That makes 4 guys (at least) from the 2013 M team that are now on the Hawks with D Hill, Clark, Rawls and Darboh.
