Death Storm 2016 - Open Thread
I hear things are getting very dicey already in some parts of the state. What are you going to do to celebrate death storm? Drink? Possibly drink? Reports from all over the State would be helpful in order for everybody to decide when to start, well, drinking. I think those attendance estimates for the game tonight are going down by the minute.

its about 30 degrees and windy in beautiful Northern Michigan.

I know it is the in-thing to be all "you call this a storm" but there are some areas north of 59 that are going to get 14 inches of snow in a 24 period. If we lived in New York or on the east coast we would be getting 24 coverage right now.
February 24th, 2016 at 10:43 AM ^
we (Philly/NJ/NY) got 24-33 inches in just over a 24 hour period like a month ago ...
February 24th, 2016 at 10:52 AM ^
.....and the entire country heard about it for a week.
February 24th, 2016 at 11:10 AM ^
.... yeah, well, get off my lawn.

Now that's a snow storm.
1 foot in 24 hours really is nothing. Some parts got 18" in a day in like, November? We were all fine. We can definitely survive less...

long is your commute to work/school and do you take a major freeway? That may be the difference.

10 miles up hill both ways, by foot, no shoes

If you're lucky enough to have a pair.

This has been an incredibly mild winter, snow wise, in South eastern/mid Michigan. I think also pretty mild on the west side, too. So this is pretty much our first big snowfall of the year. It's like the first dusting of snow in December, I'm always screaming "Did you all forget how to drive in snow?!?" People are not used to it or forget.

My snowblower died, and naturally I was too cheap to replace it. So I shoveled all 90" of snow manually that winter. My cervical vertebrae have never been the same since.

I could get away with manually shovielng a short driveway, when I moved to Saline and got on a big lot, it took one day of trying to shovel that driveway and walkway before my inner cheap bastard broke down and I got a snowblower.

I live in a complex where they clear my driveway, but I was leaving for work earlier than they arrived last year. I had to clear the snow with a hockey stick before I could get my car out.

Its times like these I REALLY appreciate working from home. Hasn't started snowing in Grand Rapids yet. Drive safe everyone.

Normally, I would not post my own Twitter here, but as I just took a photo of what was our outside dining area here...

It's business as usual in Kalamazoo; the snow started around 9:30am but we're hovering right around freezing, so nothing is sticking...yet.

And it looks like we are experiencing a Harblizzard at the moment...a relentless snowstorm, with an intensity unknown to mankind. I am hoping my new friend "Nancy" will come over and help me dig out. I have extra shovels.

Couple miles north of Detroit and I don't see what all the fuss is about. Snow is starting to pickup, but from what I've heard it should be a nice layer of slush by tonight followed by a chance of more snow overnight, at least in these parts. Sounds like business as usual during the winter.

I am going to contact the SEC's HQ about this Death Storm. It has the potential to interfere with someone's Sprint Break. Should be banned by the NCAA. Someone should get right on it.

I'm in central Indiana, near Purdue, and this storm has been entertaining so far.
Started off with rain around 4 AM. The rain started to freeze, and then around 7AM the ICE PELLETS started. That last for about 4 hours. Now we have snow blowing sideways in the 35-45mph gusts. Wunderground is being schizophrenic and can't decide it it's 5-8" or 8-12" of snow.
Schools started on time, then said they were closing at 1, and then just gave up and sent the kids home at 11. I'm sure there a bunch of pissed off parents.

Barely 2" in four hours here on westside A2, and the snow has largely stopped for now.
I'm sure driving on the freeways sucks, but Snowpocalypse 2016 it ain't.

I'm assuming that you're the Don in Ann Arbor who calls into WTKA when Brian is on. If so, is there any chance you could just ask your question next time and skip the 2 minute prelude?
February 24th, 2016 at 2:03 PM ^
Can we please not chase off one of the few WTKA callers that doesn't immediately make me want to turn off the radio?

I'm gonna be volunteering at the Farmers Market, in Royal Oak, for an event called MacNBrews. Hopefully I'm manning the Saugatuck booth so I can drink all the Starburst Wheat. This snow won't stop the show!
