Death Storm 2016 - Open Thread

Submitted by ijohnb on

I hear things are getting very dicey already in some parts of the state.  What are you going to do to celebrate death storm?  Drink?  Possibly drink?  Reports from all over the State would be helpful in order for everybody to decide when to start, well, drinking.  I think those attendance estimates for the game tonight are going down by the minute.

I will be leaving Temperance, MI in a few minutes pissed that this didn't start earlier so I didn't have to take my calc II exam at the University of Toledo. Currently freezing rain is coming down here.

Are the people posting on this from Michigan? Everyone seems to be freaking out over a few inches of snow. I remember a couple years ago an ice storm that knocked out power for a few weeks in the Lansing area, 2 years ago we were COVERED in snow all winter long and broke records for the amount of snow in Michigan in one winter in most places across Michigan. In the biggest storm that year I drove from Lansing to Detroit in an impala. Now we are set to get one storm and people think there will be a state wide shut down? Maybe I live in Georgia, I thought for damn sure I was in Michigan.

I'm not "trying to be cool" I'm serious. I'm wondering if ppl aren't from Michigan that are complaining. It's winter, in Michigan, this is what you should expect. I don't understand how you can be caught off guard by a large snow storm in February.

This has been an incredibly mild winter, snow wise, in South eastern/mid Michigan.  I think also pretty mild on the west side, too.  So this is pretty much our first big snowfall of the year.  It's like the first dusting of snow in December, I'm always screaming "Did you all forget how to drive in snow?!?"  People are not used to it or forget.

And it looks like we are experiencing a Harblizzard at the moment...a relentless snowstorm, with an intensity unknown to mankind.  I am hoping my new friend "Nancy" will come over and help me dig out.  I have extra shovels.

Timing couldn't be worse. I have a shelf exam tomorrow at 9am. If school gets canceled, the make up date is gonna be smack dab in the middle of my next rotation, which is a terrible prospect. I have movers coming on Friday to get me out of my of Detroit apartment and I had hoped to move a considerable amount of my stuff tomorrow afternoon after my exam. Knowing how bad Detroit snow service is, I'm not gonna get anywhere anytime soon. So now I'm just studying feeling all sourpuss.

We got about 2-3" here in Tecumseh, and the snow flakes are just as big as they were 3 hours ago when I drove in here. I think I'm on the edge of this, where we're supposed to get 5-6" when it's all said and done.

Couple miles north of Detroit and I don't see what all the fuss is about. Snow is starting to pickup, but from what I've heard it should be a nice layer of slush by tonight followed by a chance of more snow overnight, at least in these parts. Sounds like business as usual during the winter.

I am going to contact the SEC's HQ about this Death Storm.  It has the potential to interfere with someone's Sprint Break.  Should be banned by the NCAA.  Someone should get right on it.

I'm in central Indiana, near Purdue, and this storm has been entertaining so far.

Started off with rain around 4 AM.   The rain started to freeze, and then around 7AM the ICE PELLETS started.  That last for about 4 hours.  Now we have snow blowing sideways in the 35-45mph gusts.  Wunderground is being schizophrenic and can't decide it it's 5-8" or 8-12" of snow.

Schools started on time, then said they were closing at 1, and then just gave up and sent the kids home at 11.  I'm sure there a bunch of pissed off parents.

Barely 2" in four hours here on westside A2, and the snow has largely stopped for now.

I'm sure driving on the freeways sucks, but Snowpocalypse 2016 it ain't.

I'm gonna be volunteering at the Farmers Market, in Royal Oak, for an event called MacNBrews. Hopefully I'm manning the Saugatuck booth so I can drink all the Starburst Wheat. This snow won't stop the show!
