Michigan doesn't have a scholarship until next semester and told Arnett that he was more than welcome to join the team, but would have to walkon until a scholarship opened up. He apparently did not like that idea. Best of luck to him when they are playing anyone but us.

Yes, Michigan's are the same as MSUs which is the same as Stanford and NW and ND and every other single school in the NCAA.  But each individual school has their own damn admissions board that has to admit the student as well.  I really hate it when spartans try and argue that standards are the same at State as they are at UM.  They aren't because each school has their own admission board that can do anything they want and require different standards regardless of the NCAA minimum standards.

BTW, this has nothing to do with the thread or it's subject.  I just saw the opportunity to rant.

You said it Freddie, perfectly well clarified. As a former scholarship athlete for NU, I will attest that each team had it's share of Clearinghouse minimum qualifiers, yet the admissions board greatly restricts how many each team can have and it comes down to who the coach wants most. We had a handful of guys who had no business being there (who will remain nameless), the coaches had to lobby and politic to barely get them in and many others, (Jason Wright, Louis Castillo, Jeff Backes ntJB) who were downright scholars. Guys like Nick Roach, Zach Strief, and Brett Basenez held their own academically too. Enough lame name dropping, I support your point that admissions for athletes is far from equal in the BIG, but everyone has their barely eligible qualifiers. I have only ever seen official school lit. say NU. Never once saw NW. Not ever. / getting off soapbox.

Rumor has it that we weren't able to offer him a scholarship until next Fall, but he really wants to enroll right now.  He couldn't justify paying a semester's tuition here when other schools had an available schollie.

This shouldn't come as a surprise. He already had a relationship with Dantonio and his staff, whereas he barely knew Hoke or anyone at Michigan.

Nonetheless, I'm glad he got his release from Dooley. Best of luck to him.

At least he got out of Tenn.  I still don't understand why we couldn't free up a scholly, but so be it.  Hope our DBs are up to the task of state's talented group of WRs.  I think Brian mentioned this in his post sugar bowl wrap-up, but we need some game-breakers at WR to make this offense Borges wants to do work.  I was kind of hoping Arnett could have filled that role for us.

Having just lost my father to heart and kidney ailments, I will put the rivalry aside for a moment and wish him and his family all the best

That is too bad that he is a Sparty now, but I am happy for him that he gets to play D1 football on a scholarship while he is close to his family.

Best wishes to the Arnett family. My father also has dealt with heart issues, and I have great sympathy for what they are going through. I'm sure that the extra time spent with his father will be much more important to DeAnthony than anything that will take place on the Tennessee football field . . .
