DCC: Teryl Austin

Teryl Austin has proven to be one of the NFL's top defensive coordinator, and there's a chance he wil be gone if Caldwell gets fired, or he could jump at a great opportunity given how bad the Lions organization is. On top of this, Austin has connections to Harbaugh and Michigan. Austin coached the defensive backs at Michigan from 1999-2002. Austin also coached under John Harbaugh from 2011-2013 serving as the Ravens defensive backs coach.

If Austin doesn't land a head coaching gig, there's a chance he jumps at the opportunity to coach with Harbaugh at Michigan. Austin has already left the NFL once for a college DC position. Austin is a great fit for Harbaugh's style of football, as he runs a very aggressive defense. In my opinion this could be a name to keep an eye on if Harbaugh doesn't stick to an internal candidate.

His defense has been up-and-down this year, but he still has fielded a competitive unit despite Mayhew's incompetence as a procurer of talent. Austin is NFL guy. A NFL team will pick him up if the Lions let him go.

RB or TE.  That team is dumpster fire.  Stafford may have to retire before he's 30 due to injuries.  The O Line is swiss cheese and that secondary can't cover a $1 bet.

The Lions are a joke

Problem is that Mayhew missed as much as he hit in talent acquisition. For ever solid, conventional wisdom move, he would boneheadedly skip over positions of need for a sexy pick. More than anything, that was his biggest failure. His best quality is he was better than Millen.
