Dantonio signs the dotted line. Another 5 years with the Spartans.
Salary boost from $1.8 to $1.83 million and secured at his post until 2016.
The three straight wins over Michigan, plus the win at OSU last week are probably the 4 signature wins of Dantonio's 21 Big Ten victories.
Here's to hoping the Michigan Wolverines hand the MSU AD a big case of buyer's remorse next Saturday afternoon!

thank you Sparty for keeping him there.

Something was posted on this yesterday, but this is a different article, so it may have some new infromation, maybe? Idk, here's the link to the earlier thread:

If OSU wants him, he'll bolt. Theres no way he would turn down another million/yr, even if he likes MSU.
October 9th, 2011 at 1:56 PM ^
If you think about it OSU will look for Urban Meyer and he won't come. They won't be able to get anyone else, and thus a frustrated Gene Smith plucks Dantonio from MSU.
October 9th, 2011 at 2:42 PM ^
the OSU admin will ponder a lot more variables that we can right now.
October 9th, 2011 at 2:50 PM ^
I dont think Dantonio, as dense as he is, would want to go to Ohio. He has a job were better than average keeps you employed. Ohio would not settle for such things.
October 9th, 2011 at 3:31 PM ^
I've been thinking the same thing. Would OSU even want to hire Dantonio? His 3 wins over Michigan were during our worst 3 year stretch in 70 something years, and that included the worst team in school history. (That's a far cry from Cooper's ASU team beating a top 5 Michigan team in the Rose Bowl, which was a major reason OSU hired him.)
Dantonio's lone win over OSU looks to be the bucks worst team since 1988, right on the heels of their drama with the NCAA . Other than his win over Wisconsin last year, what would OSU be impressed with? His 0-4 bowl record or the fact that he referred to Tressel as a fallen hero?
Dantonio is the best coach MSU has had in a long time. But despite that, I would think OSU would want someone with a better resume.

Hoke & Co. will make him regret that signing.
Go Blue!

he has the job security.

What does tSIO have to pay to buy out Dantanio now?
He will obviously have to eat his words if he takes up that offer.. what with the long term committment and stability and love for EL remarks yesterday..

Good... Dantonio (while a good coach) doesn't scare me one bit.
October 9th, 2011 at 2:35 PM ^
Now that the guy from Ohio is gone Dantonio rises to the top of my list of conference coaches I just can't stand. However he's a little man who can't rise above the banter of opponent's players or the pain of dishing out consequences for his own players indiscretions. At least the guy in Ohio had the sense to bring a certain charisma and humility to his act.
October 9th, 2011 at 3:31 PM ^
You have to wonder if there are clauses in that contract - as Meyer always had - that allow him to bolt for certain jobs. Somehow, I see him firmly planted in East Lansing, however.
October 9th, 2011 at 4:00 PM ^
I bet he leaves if Ohio State comes calling.
October 9th, 2011 at 4:39 PM ^
For those saying "good keep him there" or "he doesn't scare me"...I think everyone on this board would rather have Dantonio at OSU and say Don Treadwell at MSU over Urban at OSU and Dantonio at MSU.
October 9th, 2011 at 11:50 PM ^
There's no doubt that we'd rather see Dantonio at OSU than Meyer, but OSU doesn't want Dantonio, unless they can't get anyone to come there.
Dantonio is a very mediocre coach in a lot of ways. I'm not saying he's bad, but he's not great. He doesn't win many big games, hasn't won any bowl games at MSU and has done a very average job recruiting with most of his exceptions being guys who were slotted for MSU all the way.

With a probation lingering...I'm not so sure they can get picky.
And why did I get negged?

Here is something about sparty that doesn't deserve its own thread.
A little sample of sparty logic from red cedar.
"Jon Wilner has the right idea about scUM. If we had their schedule we'd be 6-0"
somebody should tell them we have one opponent in common and what happened.
October 9th, 2011 at 9:04 PM ^
We did play them at home, and they played them in South Bend. I do know what you're saying though.
October 9th, 2011 at 4:13 PM ^
It doesn't add to his years, just gives him a larger salary. Seems like he's not in it for any longer haul, just more cash
October 9th, 2011 at 4:49 PM ^
he did it to solidify his current team and for future recruiting purposes.
Everyone had him on the top list for OSU consideration. I don't think he wanted to take on the restructuring that OSU has coming - especially not with his health the way it is either.
He probably thought, If I can make it another 5 years lets keep building the program at MSU -- and if I can eek out a couple more wins over Michigan in that time, all the better for my legacy.
October 9th, 2011 at 9:20 PM ^
Why should Dantonio want to be Fickel's replacement and take on the brunt of the consequences of the sanctions (those already imposed, and those likely to come)? Much better to be the guy who replaces Fickel's replacement.
Anyway, maybe he'd rather be the most beloved MSU coach in the last 40-50 years.

I've got a bad feeling about Dee Hart. I wish Brandon would decide what Rich Rods fate is before the darn bowl game.
October 9th, 2011 at 9:08 PM ^
Considering what Dantonio's brought to the MSU program in terms of on-field performance, he's obviously their best hire in a very long time.
Like or dislike the man (I tend toward the latter, principally because I see him as arrogant, deceptive and a hypocrite in terms of discipline), he'll wind up being a hero to a lot of MSU fans.
In the public perception, MSU is still in Michigan's shadow. An MSU coach either has to accept it in a good natured way like some of their prior coaches, or be generally pissed about it and develop a repellent persona to deal with it. Dantonio has chosen repellence. I say good for him. In the end, it won't matter, as Michigan is resurgent.
It may take some time and player development for Michigan to once again deliver an annual drubbing to MSU, but I'm confident that it will happen soon. I'm hoping as soon as next weekend!
