The Michigan drill...
Bolden and Morgan both really popped off those blocks. I'm really optimistic about this LB group.
Things got pretty chippy, too. That's a football team alright.

I hear lemons are in season.

We are so deep at LB. I have confidence in at least 6 of them. Each of the past few years this drill has looked faster, more physical, and harder hitting than before. I know we all get so impatient with the player development aspect of this staff, pr lackthereof, but I see guys getting older, bigger, faster, more physical, and more confident and that is encouraging.

I know physicalness had become a bit of a cliché here but yes, there was something a little extra this year. Guys are finishing their reps hard and popping right back up to push and shove each other. They definitely seem to be a little more energy efficient them.
Michigan drill is always lovely!
Edit: Did y'all see Ty Isaac truck stick James Ross III? We have two of the best running back recruits from 2013, and Deveon Smith, who I always thought was better than both Green and Isaac...consider me pumped.

What'd you think of the technique? (Serious question)
I thought it was better than the sleds. Better initial punch and rolling hips under. Heads were up for the most part too.
That is all.
Who were the two at the end of the line? The dlineman got wrecked time and time again
You must have missed Pipkins and Hurst. 56 and 73, they are the two that stood out the most to me on the d line
Although I will say that last year's cinematography was better.

In defense of Jeremy Clark, I don't think getting blown backwards and having your running back run into the both of you counts as driving someone into the sideline.
I got Dever Fever, yo!
August 9th, 2014 at 10:45 PM ^
Bo Dever is not tiny...dude's 6'2" 200lbs. He looked great in the spring game, used his hands well, and blocked well downfield. I think he can contribute this year.
August 9th, 2014 at 10:11 AM ^
Poggi looked good on his attempt
Pipkins was 2/2 IMO and is supremely badass
Chesson might be the best blocker on the team, maybe he can play LT (1:25)

Might be one the greatest blocks in football/bowling history
August 9th, 2014 at 10:57 AM ^
Absoutely right about Pipkins. He looks 100% healthy to me. Wow, he was getting after it.
August 9th, 2014 at 11:10 AM ^
Pipkins looked great. I thought he went 3 or 4 times, but maybe that was just my excitement about him demolishing people. I didn't see who it was against, but I'm just glad to see him back and being impressive.

Let the over-analysis and critiquing begin.

I take this videos with a grain of salt. The defensive linemen is required to hit directly into his man (no angling). Naturally the OL is bigger and generally stronger than the DL so they should win a 1-on-1 against a lighter DL. The DLs advantage is when he gets to use his quickness to get to a gap.
As far as Bolden and the LBs, they get to take a straight 3 yard run right at the OL. They should win that battle every time because they get a running start against a guy who is coming out of a 3 point stance.
The idea of the Michigan or Oklahoma drill is to get the guys lathered into a frenzy and see who can take or deliver a hit. That's about it.

DL. Mone did not look overweight and held his own. Godin did not look good on his two tries and Braden was beaten both times.

I thought Hurst was the most impressive in that video. High hopes for some Mike Martin DT penetration from him in his career.
Is it Aug 30th yet?

Somewhere in the 2:30-ish range, we get to see Pipkins successfully take out two players plus several other things within about a 10-foot radius, or damn near. Either way, I like the intensity of everyone in this drill. This is something that hopefully translates into game time - I would enjoy seeing these guys play like they are on a mission this season, as it were.

- Norfleet v Lewis - wash
- Williams v Clark - nice by Williams
- Magnuson v Pipkins - Pipkins needs to eat!
- Pliska v Morgan - Morgan hungry!
- Couldn't identify v I think Henry
- Miller v Glasgow - Miller tastes great, less filling
- Bars v Bolden - Bolden sheds block, strips ball
- WR v DB - WR dominated (Chesson?), drove DB 10+ yards
- LTT v Hurst - Hurst hungry!
- Fox v Wormley - Wormley hungry!
- Samuleson v Ross III - Ross shed block nicely but bounced off RB in tackle attempt
- Bunting v Poggi - Poggi levers Bunting
- Braden v Clark - Clark feeding time
- Heitzman v Beyer - Heitzman dominates
- Cole v Taco - wash
- Bosch v Godin - Bosch does the job
- Kugler v someone - someone sheds the block but misses tackle

- Someone v Watson

I got Pip vs Dawson (55)
August 9th, 2014 at 11:00 AM ^
Could be, some of these guys wear their jersey's pretty high or the camera didn't stick on them long enough. Aside from Dawson, I didn't see a Kalis rep anywhere either but maybe he was one of the unidentified.

Isn't Kalis at the 2:19 mark? Or is that Kugler?
Kalis wears 67, that was #65 (Im lazy, not checking roster).
Bosch is 65
August 9th, 2014 at 10:55 AM ^
He did well on the first rep. A DL having to back up 4 yards to shed and tackle is still a win for the OL (although OL is expected to win this drill). Clark did destroy him though.
August 9th, 2014 at 11:12 AM ^
Dawson v Henry
#21 Kugler v Henry
lotta good players
