Combine results - Michigan
I think here would be a good place to put down U-M player results as we're watching it (or not)
I'll be updating this as we get the results:
Ben Braden
5.04 forty (Official)
25 reps
28" vertical
102 in. broad jump
De'Veon Smith
(Did not run the forty)
22 reps
Jabrill Peppers
5'10"7/8
213 lb
Jourdan Lewis
Taco Charlton
Amen.
Like the topic, but hate you vulgar words! Clean it up!
That was so fucking funny! Thank you for making my day.
It took me 20 years of hard training to do that. I can't imagine how guys can be doing it right out of college. They haven't even hit their peak man strength yet. I played footbal with a guy who weighed no more that 190 and he was benching 405. I just don't fathom it.
I started lifting more seriously in college. By junior year I could hit 18 reps at 225, 6', 185 lbs.
why even do it if you're going to look bad?
TIL: Add "Michigan" to any thread and it's immediately a new, worthy thread.
Deveon's name came up during the 40s, but he didn't run. Maybe he is in the other group and was listed by mistake.
The announcers simply said "DeVeon Smith did not run". So, the name being listed was not a mistake. Not sure what's up with him skipping it.
I think he may have skipped because he runs slow. However, it is his biggest question mark and he will prbably have to run at Michigan's pro day.
I bet he tweaked a hamstring or something.

So much for this article. I hope he has a good showing in the other drills and at Michigan's pro day.
I hope so too. I am sure he is determined. However, after seeing other times today, I am not sure he would test well in the 40. Corey Clement from Wisconsin ran 4.68 and 4.76. I don't think Smith is as fast as Clement.
I know the two are different in terms of athleticism (Funchess was some sort of athletic freak) but wouldn't it be funny if Smith does the same thing? Funchess ran a 4.7 in the Combine but managed to get a 4.48 on the pro day 40. Hopefully Smith can run a halfway decent 40.
"Funchess ran a 4.7 in the Combine but managed to get a 4.48 on the pro day 40"
Pro day numbers deserve more fakes than high school kid 40 numbers...
my two sources (NFL scouts) had Funchess in the 4.5 range at the combine. They don't go by the official electronic timed from the NFL since they think they're unreliable.
Pro day is a better indicator of what the NFL scouts had him at the combine.
It's not worth much because Funchess is not a 4.5 guy.
Funchess wasn't at 100% during the combine, remember?
over/under at one was 4.415 and the other was 4.37.........I like 'under' 4.415. Limits were low like $250 one place and $500 the other.
They had a handful of guys up for the sites. Not sure these are official yet but I may be 2-0 right now betting Fournette 'over' 4.43 which seemed way too low for a 240lb RB. Also had Delvin Cook 'over' 4.40.
stacks up to Denard's time of 4.43 at the combine.
Not sure but thought Peppers came in little heavier than I heard he be at 213 lbs.
Always felt Denard should have went down to 185 lbs for his combine and ran 4.35 maybe. Even though 4.43 is very solid for RB. Guess it worked out for him either way.
Any word why Smith didn't run?
I've been saying I dont see Smith getting drafted due to his speed or lack thereof. Him not running today confirms for me he knows the time would be pretty bad so he's going to run it at Michigan's pro day where he'll presumably time better. Everybody else seems to think Smith is going middle rounds but I just dont see it.
Also, I sure hope Peppers times out well. At 5'10 his size is going to work against him that's for sure.
Peppers got the extra inch and looks like he's being listed 5-11 most places which seems look a lot better IMO.
He got the extra 1/8 inch.
BOTTOM LINE Teams looking for a runner with decent vision who finishes runs may have an interest in Smith, but his lack of juice or third down talent could keep his name from being called during the draft. Smith can grind out yardage between the tackles, but lacks any special qualities to help him stand out. Back end of the roster appears to be his ceiling. LINK to the full analysis.
Why didn't Smith run?
That he can sneak through, and then he can get going for 60 yards.
I still laugh everytime I see this play. Pretty much a one-play synopsis of De'Veon Smith's career as a RB.
Nah. A better one-play synopsis would be if he had magically made it through the scrum but got tackled 15 yards downfield. He was very tough, and was good to get a few extra yards, but he was not a home-run hitter.

Looks like a magic trick everytime I watch this.
Looks like I missed quite a bit.
