College Gameday/Early Games Open Thread
I was actually embarrassed for Michigan State's football team, that program, and the school because there is no place for that. He is not representing that university well when he goes out there...you don't have to mar your performance by doing something so stupid! That was a punk move and he didn't need to do that. They also all agreed that this and like incidents reflect poorly on the coach. They discussed how the coaches are more like friends than coaches to the players, that discipline is lacking, and that player's don't respect the coaches authority.

Bill Lynch was not the answer, though. Terry Hoeppner was the right guy for that job, and his death was a devastating blow. He was turning them around. Lynch road his coattails to a bowl appearance in 2007, then promptly let it all fall apart.

a cupcake game for Sparty every year. I still can't believe Indiana and Sparty are a protected rivalry. I want MOAR teams in the B1G so we can get rid of shenanigans like that.

Ron Zook, punting inside the 40 some more.
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:17 PM ^
should sign Zook to a lifetime contract. It's 4th and 2 from Purdue's 38 and you are down 21 - 0 and he punts. He is a freaking genius!!
Go Blue!
October 22nd, 2011 at 1:58 PM ^
What's up with that formation? I would send a person u the middle like crazy every time. Have them try and jump the three upmen and see what happens.
October 22nd, 2011 at 1:58 PM ^
Why would you not go for it there on 4th and 2 ?
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:00 PM ^
question again, then refer to your own subject line. You have your answer.
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:03 PM ^
Indiana's monkey rodeo on 4th and goal from the 1 wiped out by a false start. FG instead.
35-17 Iowa.

Eastern has looked much improved over years in the past. Although improving on the usual 2 win seasons only requires getting that third win. If they can somehow hold on to their early lead against Western then they'd take the directional title this year. I wonder when that last happened?
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:08 PM ^
Probably when Charlie Batch was QB at Eastern.
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:12 PM ^
Probably even before that. EMU hasn't had a winning football season in 20 years.
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:16 PM ^
It was as recent as 2007. However, in my own defense I was in Afghanistan during that football season. We only got big games/ news on AFN.
Edit: It was also done in 04' as well. Derp on my part I guess.
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:16 PM ^
What was your favorite AFN commercial? I loved the "never shake your baby" one--especially in Iraq.
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:23 PM ^
Well, any of the horrible commercials that showed what pathetic actors and actresses our fellow servicemembers are would be my "favorites." I know you are aware of all the "gems" of directing brilliance that I am referring to. PTSD actually stems from bad AFN commercials, of that i am convinced. #HALOL

I'll tell you which one I hated. While at Taji there was the one with "Rob Money" for the vehix registration office. All the raping and dancing by gross people made me furious that tax payer dollars were used to make it. Gosh, I almost hated AFN more than I hated going on patrols.

Ron Zook: So it's a punting contest you want, is it?!!!
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:09 PM ^
It's like Illinois is actively trying not to win. This Purdue team isn't good enough to be shutting out a non-Minnesota Big 10 team.
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:13 PM ^
All of a sudden Iowa can't keep their QB upright against Indiana's defense. FG Iowa
38-17 Iowa.

If anyone cared about Illinois football, this game would be a fantastic TWIS subject.
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:20 PM ^
At a training conference two weeks ago, once of the speakers went out of his way to point out that Illinois is 6-0.
I wonder what he's up to now.
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:16 PM ^
Urban Meyer: "Rubik's cube?"
Chris Spielman: "Yeah, it's that thing that scientists use, like you."
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:25 PM ^
Iowa stops Indiana on 4th down. Potential epic interception under review.
38-17 Iowa, End 3rd.
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:25 PM ^
I'm pretty sure that was 3rd down.
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:27 PM ^
You know, you're probably right, but with Big 10 referees, you never can be sure. :D
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:25 PM ^
If this gets ruled an INT for Iowa, one of the best defensive plays I've seen in a while. Wow.
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:26 PM ^
I don't think it will stand up, but holy cow.
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:28 PM ^
just said "have to score on every possession and probably one more".......how....is....this....POSSIBLE?
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:31 PM ^
I believe that's called "Giving 110%".
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:32 PM ^
Defensive/special teams score?
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:32 PM ^
Sammy Watkins is tearing it up at Clemson. Too bad he didn't Go Blue because he is a hell of a playmaker.
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:34 PM ^
Zook converted a 4th and 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! STOP THE PRESSES
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:36 PM ^
Purdue has some pretty good corner back play. Very impressive, Ricardo Allen And Josh Johnson are legit.
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:37 PM ^
Big first down pick up for Mizzou. I smell an upset.
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:38 PM ^
Fumble. That's called the MAgoBLUE kiss of death
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:41 PM ^
Illini get a stop here and we have an interesting game.
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:57 PM ^
Illinois' clock management is horrific.

Eastern and Western in a battle. 10-7 Broncos, 11 to go.
EDIT: EMU trying to throw and it's going badly. Sack knocked them out of FG range on the previous drive, first play after the WMU FG they lose 15 on another sack.
October 22nd, 2011 at 3:29 PM ^
What happened to WMU's offense? Is Carder still heatlhy?
October 22nd, 2011 at 3:40 PM ^
He's playing. Eastern seems to be tackling well on a lot of short completions. 24-34 for 181.
And they just stuffed Western at the goal line, take over on downs up 14-10 with 5:02 to go.
October 22nd, 2011 at 3:55 PM ^
October 22nd, 2011 at 3:59 PM ^
Eastern plays Kent St. and Buffalo still. They are a combined 3-12. In addition I think that they can give Ball St. a game too. They are very much improved over their teams of the past 10 seasons or more.
October 22nd, 2011 at 4:11 PM ^
Wow, I am shocked at this. EMU now has a better record than WMU, too. Kudos to English.
October 22nd, 2011 at 4:06 PM ^
Minnesota just got hosed. Something tells me we will see a new rule next year about backward passes being batted forward.
October 22nd, 2011 at 4:11 PM ^
that was terrible. i feel like that is the wrong call. im not buying the explanation.
October 22nd, 2011 at 4:11 PM ^
Yeah, thought until they explained it that it was the worst call ever. Now I just think it's the worst rule ever. We should totally work that play into our playbook though... just bat the ball forward out of bounds.
October 22nd, 2011 at 4:08 PM ^
Is anyone able to watch the Oregon game and know why they went for 2 on their first touchdown against an awful Colorado team? Those Kelly boys are just so classy.
October 22nd, 2011 at 4:09 PM ^
Think they still do the swinging gate thing that they've done for at least five years. Colorado, being terrible, probably wasn't prepared for it.
