College Gameday to Ann Arbor for MSU Game?
Completely hypothetical situation here, but assuming both us and Little Brother are undefeated (a huge assumption, considering Sparty faces a dangerous Wisconsin team the week before us) when the Battle for the Paul Bunyan Trophy takes place, what do you think the odds are that College Gameday comes to Ann Arbor?
Both teams would easily be Top 20 in the country, with Sparty potentially being Top 10 if they knock off a top 10 team in Wisconsin (EDIT: okay.. they won't be top 10. Ranked High though.)
The answer is.. probably not. Other games on the slate that weekend:
Alabama (Currently #1) at South Carolina (#12)
LSU (#15) at Florida (#9)
Oregon State (#24) at Arizona (#14)
So could a Big Ten rivalry game between two Top 20 teams with a good history potentially bring the Gameday Crew to Ann Arbor? Potentially. Keep in mind:
The GD Crew already visited an LSU game (Week One, UNC vs. LSU) and an Alabama game (Week Two, Alabama vs. Penn State), and it's pretty rare for them to re-visit teams.
What do you think the odds are? Of course this is all speculative, and assuming either us or Michigan State is 5-0 on October 9th is a big leap, but it's always fun to speculate.
What do you think?

"a huge assumption, considering Sparty faces a dangerous Wisconsin team the week before us"
Also a huge assumption because we still have to beat BGSU and Indiana.

Sparty potentially being Top 10
LOL

But seriously, the chance is still decent. I could see ESPN making a gamble and waiting until Ohio State instead. Hell, even if Michigan loses a few games before the OSU game, it will make for better ratings than Michigan vs Michigan State.

couch burnings as a criterion for a Game Day visit?
Top 10? Heck, they're Top 1.

They don't usually go to the same campus, but they'll have duplicate teams. First check the 8:00 ABC games then look at the ranked teams to narrow your options...IF South Carolina keeps winning a trip to Columbia seems like a good bet.

Glad it's not just my SEC homerism. SC-Bama looks like a great choice, especially if Lattimore continues to play like that.

I honestly hope to god we don't have College Gameday because all we'll hear about is Denard not tying his shoes. I've heard it 100 times already in 1 year and 3 games. Can't wait for College Gameday to mention it another dozen times in 3 hours and "breakdown" the film on it.
Then at the end of the show during the predictions Corso, instead of wearing a helmet, would walk out in untied shoes.
No thanks, I'll pass.

You're right, I'd much rather hear them talk about why Rich Rod should be fired.

100 is a very generous number. I've heard it at least 100 since UCONN.

I don't understand why people complain about all the "Shoelace" TV segments. The TV people are not doing this for the benefit of you, the obsessive M fan. They're doing it for the casual fan who doesn't know much more about Michigan than that we have cool uniforms. If they can make that guy become more interested in Michigan than he was before, that's a great thing. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

rational thought.

I'd put my money on Game Day being here, especially since you've got the additional story line of Dantonio's heart attack on top of the existing lines of 1) Resurgent Sparty, 2) RR Hot Seat, and 3) Denard.
MSU plays Wisky at home, but it's still not going to be an easy win for them. I don't think we'll have any real trouble with BG, but the apparent majority who thinks IU is a gimme for us is far more optimistic than I am. I bet that one's going to be a high-scoring dogfight.
I doubt Game Day would go to Cbus unless we can win or tie for the conference championship ourselves.

...that Sparty is playing Wiscy the week before Michigan. Wiscy takes a lot out of anyone who plays them. This will be an advantage for Michigan, similar to the advantage MSU had over ND last night, and the disadvantage Michigan faces so often when playing Wiscy the week before OSU.
Hopefully, Michigan takes full advantage of the situation, especially since most instate recruits will be watching the game.

Maybe it's just the myopia that the last two years has created, or my Alzheimer's, but if both MSU and UM are undefeated going into the game, it will be the most important MSU game for us since Bo came to town. RR can simply not afford to lose three in a row to Sparty if he wants to keep the torch & pitchfork crowd at bay.

I think the Indiana game is going to tell first. I left the stadium last year after barely escaping IU and concluded that getting to six victories was going to be a struggle considering the way they ran up and down the field on us, and the UMass game was a depressing reversion to that quality of defense. If the defense we fielded against UConn and ND shows up in Bloomington, we're in good shape, especially since our offense is much better than we had against IU last year. If we play defense like they did yesterday, we're in for a tough fight down there. Chappel's a heady senior QB for them.

MSU and Penn State, a chance to recover, heal, game plan and just generally take a break.

No, UM plays Iowa on Oct. 16, one week after MSU. They then have a bye week before traveling to PSU for the Oct. 30 night game.

Please don't assume victories.

Why axe a question to start a thread--then answer the question (probably not), then still axe for other opinions? And if you get enough yes answers, will you go to bed tonight all dreamy-eyed about the possibility of Lee Corso putting on a Wolverine head, telling you he thinks Michigan will win?
The only reason to come to the UM-MSU game this year is because the defenses are so horribly shitty, the offenses might set a record for points--even for a basketball game.

ESPN's profitability is tied to the SEC succeeding and the model of the Big 10 Network not spreading beyond the Big 10. I'm pretty sure the coverage they are forced to give us (i.e. Shoelaces thrashing all comers) is choked down with disdain at the upper-corporate levels.
If there is a highly ranked pair of SEC teams playing on a weekend without a big-time intersectional matchup, Gameday will be pumping up the SEC hype.

I could buy that if ESPN/ABC didn't also have a contract to televise our league's games. They have a vested interest in our conference doing well, too.

Week 1 LSU/UNC game was in Atlanta, FWIW, so they still have Baton Rouge unchecked on their hit list for this year.
September 19th, 2010 at 4:28 PM ^
My bet is that they will be in Columbia IF South Carolina gets past Auburn. Big if, though.

One game at a time guys.

i HOPE THAT THEY DON'T COME TO ANNE ARBOR FOR THAT GAME! it would be SUCHHHHH A HUYGE (SEE WHAT I DID THER)? SLAP IN THEIR FACE?

I'd say it's unlikely as things currently stand. In addition to Bama-South Carolina, Florida-LSU is that weekend, as is Florida State-Miami, both of which are bigger games nationally. The chances would increase (in addition to both teams remaining undefeated) if they go to the Alabama-Florida game next weekend instead of Texas-Oklahoma (as they don't typically feature the same team two weeks in a row, regardless of location) and if one or both teams in the Florida State-Miami matchup aren't ranked. That being said, my guess is that they're going to Dallas on the 2nd and Baton Rouge or Columbia on the 9th.
