Championship Eve "Where-You-At and What's-In-Your-Cup" thread

Arrived in Houston at 3pm local time and our party wandered in to a bar called the "Kirby Ice House", just a couple of miles or so west of Downtown and north of NRG Stadium.

Kirby Ice House is very open-air, over half the seating is outdoor patio areas, complete with a TexMex food truck out back. Lots and lots of Michigan fans and Lions fans. TVs all over the  place tuned to NFL games.  If I didn't have a seat tomorrow at the National Championship Game, this would be a great place to watch the game tomorrow evening.

We might set up camp here for awhile as we're waiting for another buddy and his wife to arrive after the Michigan pep rally ends.  Stop on in!

Home. Vodka martini. 3 Go Blue cheese olives. Waiting on some pork chops braising in the leftover sauce from Osso Bucco that Mrs Mgoblue78 made earlier in the week. Rooting for the Commanders to overtake the Cowboys.

I have a feeling this is going to be just delicious Mrs Castorini.

If I start driving now, I can be there in 3.5 hours. Make sure to have a bucket of Shiner Bock on ice ready for me. 😊

Have fun in Houston and bring us back a win tomorrow night!

Houston Hilton Westchase drinking a martini.

Watched NFL this afternoon with the ex-avatar at Ducky McSweeny’s (very fun Irish bar) and deciding what to do tonight in Houston.

Unfortunately, far from Houston.  Rose Bowl trip was fantastic but now flying to Vegas for CES show.  UM crowd should be incredible tomorrow and throughout the game.

Go Blue.

Unfortunately for me I’m at the airport heading to Europe for work. However the last time Michigan played for the National Championship I was also out of the country - so I take this as a good omen.

as far as what’s in my cup… Delta has Woodford, so I’m in good shape there.

Basking in Lions victory but worried about Laporta/Raymond. Won't drink today/tomorrow so as to not be a worse version of my nervous bird self.

Am poised to vacate the room whenever Karma is needed tomorrow and no Big Screen for me just my little 32 inch. All the best stuff is Upnorth. If things go well early I may break out the La Fin Du Mond for a few beers.

Go Blue and be safe in your travels.

Just home in AZ, the Valley of the Sun, but it was cold (51°, lol) and rainy earlier today. It's going down to 32° tonight!  Cover those plants...

Hoping the Cards can beat Pete Carroll and the Seahawks.  20-13, with 2:00 left.

Drinking a Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR).  Not in a cup, real men drink beer from the can.  Did you know it won a blue ribbon in 1893 as America's best? Kinda like winning the natty for beers...

EDIT:  Prater missed a 51 yd FG to win it as time expired.  No big deal, need better draft pick.  Who cares if 5-12 vs 4-13?

Drinking cocoa and looking forward to tomorrow, when I'll be watching with the fam here in Tallahassee. Contemplated bolting for Houston with my daughter yesterday, but we're going to Spain for a month March 2, and the money would have come out of that trip and mutual family enjoyment. On Friday, my cousin invited me to her 70 birthday party in Mecklenberg, Germany two weeks after we were scheduled to fly home. That sealed the deal; I decided to hide out in her town near Hamburg and write while my wife flies back. Not a bad trade-off for a person of fairly modest means.

Everyone enjoy yourselves, and here's to tomorrow!

Labatt Blue whilst tending a fire near Holland MI.  Thought about Houston just couldn’t make it all work.

I’m outta my gourd about tomorrow.

just home from the lions' game with some of the kids.  first time i've attended a lions game since the very first one at ford field in september of 2002 v. the packers.  nice win.  they look really good.  laporte will be fine, stop pearl clutching.  they are not now and will not ever be again while campbell is coaching, the 'same old lions'.

home tomorrow early.  will put another venison backstrap on the grill and watch the game.  it's all good, all gravy, and if we win it all i'll just be about speechless with all the football blessings that have overflowed for us michigan fans, lions fans, and in our house with the 3 middle sons' respective teams.  just an unbelievable year.

This may sound screwy, but I don’t think it’s truly sunk in to me that Michigan is playing for the national championship tomorrow. It’s only the second time since I was born (a couple weeks after Ike was first inaugurated) that we’re in the position of being guaranteed at least a share of the big prize if we win the last game of the season.

Just dropped the MGoWife at the airport.  She bought her ticket to Houston a month ago to meet her sister, who is coming in from Europe for business reasons.  Thanks to the Vast Network, I was able to secure tickets for them in a section with known friends and trusted agents.  I'd like to think I'm lending my good luck charm to the cause.

I’m at DTW awaiting our flight to DFW. A little less convenient than I normally would prefer but we do what we have to do to get to Houston!

EDIT:  Celebrity sighting!  A certain owner of mgoblog is on my flight. Jalen and Jimmy were on a slightly earlier flight to Houston.

Voodoo Ranger Imperial IPA at home, going into a deep dive of Q-Tip, Tribe, De La Soul, and others on spotify while sitting on the couch with the wife and the dogs.

At home doing sobriety. The bartender at my local spot is a native Michigander and M fan, so I'll be watching the game there. I met a UDub prof who I think is also a grad there last Friday, and I'm hoping he stops by since we had a fun chat.

In Houston, about to head to Pappardeaux Seafood Kitchen for New Orleans food that isn't easy to find at home. The restaurant seems to have fancy-schmanzy drinks in all sorts of colors, but I think I'll stick to their best bourbon on the rocks. My MGoWife may opt for a Sidecar, her usual go-to drink. According to their on-line menu, they appear to have a fancy variation.

We're back. The restaurant was full of people in Mich clothes. The manager stopped by to say hello and said he thought it was Mich over Wash 9 to 1. Maybe he was just telling us what we wanted to hear, but we saw only one person wearing a W, and he was at a large table with Mich fans.

I ended up with an Old Fashioned bc of the waiter's mistake, but it was good, so I ordered another one. My MGoWife's sidecar variation wasn't as good as a regular sidecar, so she switched to wine. The food was great.

I'm drinking vodka straight, chasing with Blue Moon.

I'm home, but not doing well tbh.  Want to enjoy this, but damn nervous. Falling apart - fiance thinks I'm insane...she's definitely right.

Praying for a UM blowout so I can start enjoying the 2nd half tomorrow.

I love you all for helping me through the years of UM football in the wilderness.

Just Win!
