He’s not wrong.
December 27th, 2020 at 2:46 PM ^
Just label the post
OB: Phil Niekro
That said, what is the thing with this board complaining about post topics? It's like prudes complaining about the content of TV shows. If the title of the post turns you off STOP. DO NOT READ THE POST. Move on...
December 27th, 2020 at 3:07 PM ^
is that how you wound up posting in this thread?
December 27th, 2020 at 3:15 PM ^
Right. Though I disagree with the OP, and don't think there's a need for a separate obit section
— at least not till I kick the bucket, in which case I want a day of comments devoted to me —
But I was curious if OP had an interesting angle or solid reasoning that might sway my opinion.
Though OP didn't persuade, it did lead me to Robbie Moore's interesting response. Thanks, Mr. Moore.
December 27th, 2020 at 4:22 PM ^
You're welcome, Mr. Vet. And I will personally see to it that your bucket kicking receives many posts and a multitude of comments. I will, of course, accept no responsibility for the content of said comments.
December 27th, 2020 at 5:38 PM ^
Thank you. My future not-here self thanks you too.
As for the range of possible comment contents, I assume it will include a few complaining I kicked the bucket incorrectly, others that I kicked the wrong bucket, and a few bitching that my title sucks.

What if you Buy the Farm instead?
December 28th, 2020 at 8:50 AM ^
You forgot the annoying (insert any fucking age at all) is way too young/soon.
December 27th, 2020 at 4:40 PM ^
Holy chit, Robbie Moore! You did it! You used some common sense, that apparently 90% of the world refuses to use! Thank you for your service to this wonderful blog! This should be posted as a front page PSA!
People want something to be offended by and feel like they're the victim. It's really a simple choice. If you don't like the title or someone's opinion, keep scrolling.

If we are RIP’ing wrestlers most of us are too old to know, it’s just time to give that stuff it’s own dedicated thread

Michigan Football 1879-2007ish
December 27th, 2020 at 2:47 PM ^
November 17th, 2006. To be precise.
December 27th, 2020 at 2:51 PM ^
To me it ended November 20th, 2004 but I guess it’s a semantics argument.
December 27th, 2020 at 3:48 PM ^
To channel the great Don Rickles (may he Rest In Peace), Michigan Football is dead they just don’t know it yet.
As an aside, saw Rickles open up for my avatar in San Diego. Absolutely hilarious in person.
December 27th, 2020 at 5:53 PM ^
Agreed. I saw Rickles in Vegas in the early 90s. The best.
But seeing him open for the Chairman of the Board would have been incredible. Color me jealous.
December 27th, 2020 at 8:03 PM ^
Had to suffer through front row seats too. ?
December 27th, 2020 at 2:39 PM ^
I also wish there was interesting content
December 27th, 2020 at 2:46 PM ^
You should make a thread about why we should hire Hoke to be DC and RichRod to be OC. That might get interesting.
December 27th, 2020 at 3:44 PM ^
I was thinking a perspectives on Harbaugh series. You know, something fresh.

Just don’t click/comment. It’s that easy.

Between the Diaries and the Message Board
the MGobits
December 27th, 2020 at 2:52 PM ^
What would be nice is a couple sections such as on-topic Mich stuff board, then an off-topic other stuff board similar to how diaries are separate from non-diaries.
December 27th, 2020 at 2:56 PM ^
Then it would be called a newspaper. This is a message board.
It's no different in Ohio.
December 27th, 2020 at 3:00 PM ^
No. I need these to be front and center on the message board. Otherwise I might not hear the bad news when Keith Jackson eventually passes.
December 27th, 2020 at 3:23 PM ^
Name it the Keith Jackson section
December 27th, 2020 at 4:04 PM ^
I don't get it. Do you know something I don't?
December 27th, 2020 at 5:01 PM ^
And have I got the perfect sponsor for it.

Here Lies Michigan Football (1879-2020)
A once great and storied program was laid to rest. Having been finally done in by one of it's own, Michigan Football has finally reached the level of self parody. All boasts and platitudes are now just a sign of it's self delusion. May God have mercy on it's soul.
December 27th, 2020 at 8:38 PM ^
What does that qualify as?
Murder, Suicide, Incidental Death & Dismemberment, Mercy Killing???
December 28th, 2020 at 8:55 AM ^
You may want to check the proper usage of it's vs its. You're not doing any of it correctly. That said, I liked the content of your comment.
December 27th, 2020 at 3:06 PM ^
Actually a good idea
December 27th, 2020 at 3:09 PM ^
Sorry these people dying is inconveniencing you
December 27th, 2020 at 3:15 PM ^
Speaking of dying, I just noticed that the Browns—who haven't locked up a playoff spot yet—are getting pounded by the freaking Jets.
MGrow, what say you?
December 27th, 2020 at 3:56 PM ^
Avatar checking out
December 27th, 2020 at 3:15 PM ^
Nah.
What else are we going to talk about? Fake hype for next year? Forgetting the fact that Harbaugh sucks after a few months passes and talk about milk, steak, gatorade, khakhis, and whatever stupid ass topics center around him?
If you don't like it, move on.
December 27th, 2020 at 3:19 PM ^
Sorry to hear about Keith Jackson
December 27th, 2020 at 3:20 PM ^
While I don't think it would work here because we very rarely allow any "sticky" threads, I've seen it done on other forum groups, in particular within a group of Tigers fans I've discussed baseball with since the mid 90s. We started on the old Freep forums in the 90's, then migrated to the Worldcrossing platform and finally splintered to tapatalk and Facebook as previous websites shut down their platforms.
Somehow the subject of baseball/sports deaths just evolved organically into a "Harry Chiti All Stars" permanent thread upon the passing of former Tiger Harry Chiti in 2002.
Chiti was a non-descript journeyman catcher for several major league teams in the 50s and early 60s but upon his death became a one-soul welcoming committee at St Peter's gate. Any time any former Tiger or other ballplayer of note passed away, someone would post a "Harry Chiti welcomes _____ ______" ... in their honor.
I know of a few MGoUsers who participated in some of those Tigers forums over the years.

Are we going to let Bip Roberts waltz back into the lineup after he Dled?
December 27th, 2020 at 7:00 PM ^
LOL, another NPGWH unmasked!
On a side note, I just found out today that Randy "Trader Lane on training wheels" Smith is now an assistant advisor to GM of the Nippon Ham Fighters.
And Ramon Tatis is plump, rested and ready, enjoying greasy Varsity cheeseburgers while he waits for the phone call...
December 27th, 2020 at 8:31 PM ^
And David Espinoza finally arrived in Detroit.
December 28th, 2020 at 8:30 PM ^
At age 39, isn't it about time?
Didn't you also go by "Space Pope" on those Tigers forums? Were you around back in the days of Charles Hardaway on the old Freep Tigers forum or did you join later on?
I'm on twitter and keep in touch with almost a dozen of those Tigers forum members from over the years, also keep in touch occasionally with a smaller handful of Tigers forum guys on another Michigan forum, and like I said a day or two ago, I'm aware of a few others here on MGoBlog, "Jamie H" being one of them.

December 27th, 2020 at 8:32 PM ^
Keith Jackson is immortal.
December 27th, 2020 at 4:47 PM ^
It isn't as if people are abusing the notion of announcing deaths here, of course. It is mostly confined to notable people in the sports world, which I believe to be in-bounds year-round, and I would say that Phil Niekro - "Knucksie" if you wish - is on that list of sports notables. While I have seen it in other places, I don't think we have nearly the volume of such threads to warrant such a thing.
