Right. Though I disagree with the OP, and don't think there's a need for a separate obit section

— at least not till I kick the bucket, in which case I want a day of comments devoted to me —

But I was curious if OP had an interesting angle or solid reasoning that might sway my opinion.

Though OP didn't persuade, it did lead me to Robbie Moore's interesting response. Thanks, Mr. Moore.

Holy chit, Robbie Moore! You did it! You used some common sense, that apparently 90% of the world refuses to use! Thank you for your service to this wonderful blog! This should be posted as a front page PSA!

People want something to be offended by and feel like they're the victim.  It's really a simple choice.  If you don't like the title or someone's opinion, keep scrolling.

Here Lies Michigan Football (1879-2020)

A once great and storied program was laid to rest. Having been finally done in by one of it's own, Michigan Football has finally reached the level of self parody. All boasts and platitudes are now just a sign of it's self delusion. May God have mercy on it's soul.

Speaking of dying, I just noticed that the Browns—who haven't locked up a playoff spot yet—are getting pounded by the freaking Jets.

MGrow, what say you?

Nah.

What else are we going to talk about? Fake hype for next year? Forgetting the fact that Harbaugh sucks after a few months passes and talk about milk, steak, gatorade, khakhis, and whatever stupid ass topics center around him?

If you don't like it, move on.

While I don't think it would work here because we very rarely allow any "sticky" threads, I've seen it done on other forum groups, in particular within a group of Tigers fans I've discussed baseball with since the mid 90s. We started on the old Freep forums in the 90's, then migrated to the Worldcrossing platform and finally splintered to tapatalk and Facebook as previous websites shut down their platforms.

Somehow the subject of baseball/sports deaths just evolved organically into a "Harry Chiti All Stars" permanent thread upon the passing of former Tiger Harry Chiti  in 2002.

Chiti was a non-descript journeyman catcher for several major league teams in the 50s and early 60s but upon his death became a one-soul welcoming committee at St Peter's gate.  Any time any former Tiger or other ballplayer of note passed away, someone would post a "Harry Chiti welcomes _____ ______" ... in their honor.

I know of a few MGoUsers who participated in some of those Tigers forums over the years.

LOL, another NPGWH unmasked!

On a side note, I just found out today that Randy "Trader Lane on training wheels" Smith is now an assistant advisor to GM of the Nippon Ham Fighters.

And Ramon Tatis is plump, rested and ready, enjoying greasy Varsity cheeseburgers while he waits for the phone call...

At age 39, isn't it about time?

Didn't you also go by "Space Pope" on those Tigers forums?  Were you around back in the days of Charles Hardaway on the old Freep Tigers forum or did you join later on?

I'm on twitter and keep in touch with almost a dozen of those Tigers forum members from over the years, also keep in touch occasionally with a smaller handful of Tigers forum guys on another Michigan forum, and like I said a day or two ago, I'm aware of a few others here on MGoBlog, "Jamie H" being one of them.

It isn't as if people are abusing the notion of announcing deaths here, of course. It is mostly confined to notable people in the sports world, which I believe to be in-bounds year-round, and I would say that Phil Niekro - "Knucksie" if you wish - is on that list of sports notables. While I have seen it in other places, I don't think we have nearly the volume of such threads to warrant such a thing.
