Eh, this has some new information.

Cade details that he suffered a knee injury mid-season last year, and another serious one this year. I could be off base but that was never reported?

I take way more issue with the intentional “not knowing” of what social medias are called. It’s a stale bit, and they’ve been out for 10 years.

Speaking for myself, it's not that I don't know what they are, although I sometimes forget which social media is for what. It's more a case that for me, they are on list of things like NASCAR, opera, reality television, and Rob Schneider movies: I have absolutely no interest in them.

I know what they are. I just don't care.

I was wondering if this had been some sort of knee issue. Seeing the (unbeknownst at the time) season-ending hit to his leg in person, it seemed like it could end up as a nagging meniscus or MCL sprain, but not a visibly devastating knee injury. Either way he limped off the field in a way that wasn’t promising.

Huge fan of Cade and I wish him a speedy recovery, hoping his best football is still ahead of him.

Because surgery is usually the last resort.  If he could rehab and still be active the rest of the year (probably while wearing a bulky brace), he likely would have done so in case JJ goes down.  Looks like the rehab wasn't working, so he opted to do the surgery now instead of after the season.

My complete guess is that an MRI showed a sprain or partial tear of something and they tried to manage it nonoperatively.  It didn’t get better so surgery was the next step.  If I were a betting man, I’d bet that the “more severe than originally thought”, came from the surgeon who probably said that after getting in there with the camera and realized the MRI didn’t tell the whole story.  Just speculating though.

When I saw Cade limp off, under his own power, I didn't think it would be a devastating or season ending injury.  Typically when those adjectives are applied to an injury, you are carted or helped off the field by trainers while bearing very little load on the affected joint.  I know Cade is tough but is he THAT tough?  And the two month delay to undergo surgery would indicate the doctors guided him to rehab with physical therapy first before considering surgery.  Again, devastating/season ending injuries usually go to surgery quite quickly, especially being an athlete in a high profile program.  If soft cartilage is torn, it's torn and that is diagnosed quite quickly with MRI.

And no, I am not a doctor but I have had "season ending injuries" in the past, well, beer league hockey or lawn mowing season anyway.

All that said, I wish Cade nothing but the best going forward.  I hope he stays at Michigan but would understand if he wanted to move on.

After suffering an injury when surgery was anticipated and recommended, I was advised to first undergo physical therapy.

My physical therapist called it "prehab" to strengthen the muscles around the injured area before undergoing surgery. He said that it most likely would shorten the rehab time.

Months of physical therapy plus an injection near the site of the injury allowed me to avoid surgery.

If Cade McNamara's orthopedists offered similar advice, then at worst, he has strengthened his leg muscles and the ligaments and tendons surrounding the knee, and it may be that he'll be better off for having undergone physical therapy before surgery. Hope he'll be back running and ready to play football by the time the 2023 season starts.

SOMEWHAT OT: As for his football future, he has a redshirt year from 2019, a COVID-related extra year from 2020 and what should be a medical-redshirt year for 2022. He's 22 years old and in his fourth year at Michigan. If he'll graduate in the spring or summer of 2023, would this give him three more seasons of college football as a graduate student or will he be limited to two more seasons whether at Michigan or elsewhere?

Glad to see he’s healing and doing well!  I was genuinely concerned about the guy.

Hopefully, he can be on our sideline as a Captain when these hard hitting motherfuckers win the National Championship!

So the kid helped win a B1G championship and got us to the playoffs while injured. That shines an ugly new light on some of the comments made early in the season.

Michigan is "indebted" to Cade. Beyond last year, he could've got surgery after last season...especially after JJ was sidelined and their was less fear of losing his starting job with both of them out. He went all spring, maybe to try and get a leg up (no pun intended), maybe because he thought he could rehab without surgery like JJ and others did, maybe both...regardless of the reason, Michigan had a starting QB all spring to help prepare this team we see today.

And a leader to help make sure all off season that this team remembered Georgia...not OSU and Iowa.

This is somewhat of a reach, I fully admit this. Michigan isn't the team we'll see tomorrow without Cade this offseason. I'll go to my grave believing that.

His direct impact on 3 teams (20, 21, 22) and his part in changing the culture at Michigan...I hope Michigan, the program, the fans, etc. all honor this kid the way he deserves to be honored, now and well beyond. And I hope he accepts that love and remains a Wolverine forever (even if he finishes his career in another jersey).

Hopefully this shuts up all the d-bags who are saying Cade "quit" on the team this season. Dude is forever a Michigan legend and doesn't owe anything to anyone.

O Captain! My Captain!

A Michigan legend was born that dark night in Piscataway. Saved Harbaugh's job and spared us another quixotic coaching search that would've left us in a much worse place today.

Get well soon, champ.

This is not an excuse. Cade should have fought off the Sparty thugs who attacked McBurrows, taught all the receivers how to catch contested balls, and gotten Jadyn Davis to commit already. Leaders lead.
