Shea regressed after spending all off season playing golf...

Cade also seemed like he was really into golf this past off season and might have regressed...

Is golf the ultimate culprit for all the pain and sorrow Michigan Football has faced? Any idea if Brady Hoke or Rich Rod were also into golf?

While this is cool, doesn't Cade have a NIL deal with Ping? I always wonder about these posts where players give gift cards and items to the team and it just reads as an ad for the item in my opinion.

I think the idea of NIL and maybe marketing/promotion in general might be lost on you.

PING is a golf brand who make golf products. Their main marketing objective (of which NIL would exist in their budget) is to raise awareness for their brand, so that the general public buy more of their products.

PING signs an NIL deal with a D1 QB at a major program. They give him money and product, in exchange for him representing their brand (maybe make an appearance or two for them) in general promote PING products.

Cade goes to his new brand buddies and says I'd like to give my line new clubs. Does the brand say, "sure Cade, here's an invoice let us know where you'd like they shipped." Or do they say "this one is on us" with the idea that when the story "Cade gives his Linemen new PINGS" hits the wires it's basically "free" advertisement in exchange for product  Jumping to the end, its the latter. It's called Ad Value Equivalency and they're racking up a ton of it right now. In fact, in this thread alone someone saying "those are my dream clubs" is basically the win.

Nobody thinks that Cade went into his pocket to buy these clubs. The linemen don't. This is how Cade used his Name, Image and/or Likeness to profit and reward his teammates in the process. It's pretty much a win for everyone. The reason this "reads as an ad" is because that is exactly what it is. NIL is advertising and promotion, not austerity.

Seems like this is a lecture from a B school undergrad about the bleeding obvious. A little surprised that 30 people liked it. Seemed like the OP understood perfectly? What am I missing?

I'd say the issue here is a credulous news media, maybe on a slow day, pretending that this is somehow interesting or important. And Cade possibly doing himself a disservice, offering gifts to the O-line in the midst of an on-field battle to lead them. Again, could be he gave them the drivers weeks ago and it's just coming out now.

Not criticizing the gift-giving, the arrangement, anything. Just seem like. . . of course that's how it works? I've got a house full of books and CDs from working in publishing and music, and am not complaining.

Dude, someone is paying for everything. Scholarship is paid with tax payer dollars/donors etc.. Pocket money is paid by parents/student loan. What is the big deal if Ping pays for it. Why that needs to be included?

We are not IRS. We don't care if it own money earned by working in a restaurant.

Those are some pretty sweet looking drivers. I would like to take one off the tee with one and then spend a minute looking for my drive 2 holes over because of my immaculate slice.

I could reach all the trees in the forest with one of those!  I might even get a birdie if one is sitting on a branch.  Eagles are even possible here in the Pacific Northwest.

Any chance this is part of a wicked strategy to get the OL to not block for JJ if the change is made? Something like, "remember that Ping driver? Yeah, JJ goes down on the 3rd snap of the second series. Pass the word..."
