Burning Man! The summer, more male-skewed, even more desert-y version of Coachella!
I'll give it a check mark for getting a few people out of town and off the SoCal freeways.

Its so cool to say though. Burning man, coachella, joshua tree (wtf is this all about we went there and im like didnt we just pass this same shit the last 2 hours of our drive?). Saying it is nearly as cool as waiting in line for a 2oz kids burger with soggy fries. Almost.
Now that is how you roast California without all the political bs and I like it here btw.

Catalina Island (the one south of Long Beach) === Mackinac Island.
Not to get geographically pedantic --- there are 8 Channel Islands and Catalina Island is definitely the most famous of them. But only 5 are part of Channel Islands National Park. Those 5 islands are further north, the boats from the mainland leave from Ventura/Oxnard or Santa Barbara.
IMO, the Park islands are much cooler than Catalina. More secluded, more off the radar. Less fudge.

One other bizarre fact --- in 1944-45 our government was thinking about "where do we test this nuclear bomb we're building?" San Nicolas Island - one of the Channel Islands - was one of the proposed sites! 60 miles off of LA, we were going to first test a nuclear bomb! Obviously, we chose New Mexico instead, probably a better choice. :-)

one big correction. these are the michigan football uniforms:
burn those yellow ones with fire. some of the alternates are okay, once in a great while, that's it. blue on blue is good. white/white or white/yellow pants are good.
you may stay on the lawn, just watch where you step with the cow, sheep and chicken scat. could make your new shoes messy.

Before calling things "cringe" became a big thing, I had long since gotten over hating on cringe shit and began embracing it. Hell yeah I go out in public wearing Crocs. Of course I often use baby talk with my puppy. If I had kids, I would blast my dinosaur music in the car with their friends. I am cringe, but I am free.

At the risk of driving the OT bus off the cliff . . . oh, what hell, here goes. I would say the "cringe" is simply using the term "Radical Inclusion" for what is described in their explanation. Welcoming and respecting the stranger ain't so damn radical.

Why not both? There is a camp every year that runs a college football tailgate on Saturday. It's about the most real life thing that happens in an otherwise otherworldly environment. Run by UM fans and about a third of folks are Michigan but an awesome blend of fans from every conference and a unique CFB bonding experience.

Here for the Burning Man bashing, it does serve a very real purpose in keeping those who should not attend from showing up.
If you don't know, you won't go.
If you don't get it, you won't contribute and you won't go.
If you should go, you'll know, because you won't be able to not go.
So....yes....Burning Man is nothing but crazy people in stupid costumes, patting themselves on the back for camping in a terribly inhospitable environment (blazing heat, freezing cold, floods, drought, pestilence.....and porta potties), partial to nudity, EDM, orgies and chaos. You should never, ever, go.
