BTN Top 100 Players by School
After seeing the link to the BTN ranking of the top 100 players in the UV (link HERE), I wanted to see how the individual schools stacked up to each other. Here are the schools with the number of players on the list.
Michigan State - 15
Ohio State - 14
Michigan - 10
Nebraska - 10
Penn State - 9
Iowa - 9
Indiana - 7
Wisconsin - 6
Northwestern - 5
Illinois - 4
Rutgers - 4
Minnesota - 3
Purdue - 2
Maryland - 2
Some thoughts: Michigan is in 3rd, but all ten are in the top 48. As Brian noted, Glasgow not being on the list is criminal. Both Ohio State and Michigan State had a lot of players in the bottom 50. I was really surprised to see Maryland only have two players on the list. I think they are not on the same level as Purdue.
What are your thoughts on the list? Do you think the amount of players per school is on par with their standing within the conference?
The whole Glasgow thing is baffling. Maybe they forgot about him because he got hurt?
Wish it was in spreadsheet format. I would like to subtract each players ranking from 101 - then separate by teams, and add the column up - thus rank the teams by total power. Since Michigan's players are top heavy, i would think they may be #1 in the big ten in quality (IE...a top 5 player on this list would be more beneficial on a team than 3 that are in the 90 - 100 range).
Sounds good. Go ahead and make it for us.

Didn't they lose a lot of players to graduation/NFL this past season?
How deep could their new roster be, particularly pre-season?
MSU has Ed Davis #17 on the list and chances are he won't be playing and their kicker at #100. So MSU with 15 in the top 100 is a stretch. Also, as Brian pointed out Nicholson being on this list is very LOL.
EDIT: Donnie Corley in the top 100? I mean, I guess it's possible, but that seems a bit of a stretch as well. He and Crawford were ranked very similarly in the 247 composite, so I guess Crawford should be on the list as well?
What is the case again for Davis NOT getting a 6th year? To me, it seems like pretty open and shut 6th year scenario. Missed all of last season, his 5th with injury, seems like that's a case for a 6th year. What am I missing?
Here's a way too detailed breakdown I saw posted on Reddit: https://borderingonwisdom.wordpress.com/2016/06/23/ncaa-6th-year-of-eligibility/
Are pre season lists.
I think with MSU being returning champions they just get the love. Or maybe they're that good but I have a hard time believing.
I haven't looked into Maryland's roster, but weren't they a mess last season? Weren't they the team that couldn't settle on which of their two terrible QBs they wanted to roll with? Or am I mixing them up with Rutgers?

But they had some big issues on OL which killed any run attack. Their QBs couldn't throw the ball, which killed some talent at WR. So there goes essentially placing any guys on offense. On defense they lost quite a bit of talent I think. But they are solid at LB. Just no real names to talk up. I think Purdue could actually make an argument with a few other players being on the list, but collectively as a team they just are weak.
Calvin should have, referring to the times and where the great players signed, have gone to USC. He was identified in high school as probably the best receiver coming out so GA. Tech was surprising given that Chan Gailey, not known as an offensive genius was the head man.
Reading through bio info on Calvin, I think his mother might have had something to do with him staying close to home. He did want to play two sports - baaseball - at Tech and his mother aborted that, thinking it would be too demanding.
I do know he's a wealthy young man and I hope he does wonderful things and finds something he truly enjoys for the remainder of his work years.
Harbaugh said following today at media day
- Feels anything is accomplishable for Jabrill Peppers. He's the kind of athlete and has that greatest in the world athleticism. He can play anywhere and ultimately nickel is his best position. Probably right now, he's the best slot wide receiver and could compete for the running back spot. He can do it all and is highly motivated. Very serious about being good and never let anything get him down. Just a highly motivated guy
Too bad we aren't deeper on D, feel like Peppers, if solely dedicated to it, could be the best RB in the conference
All Peppers needs to be is Charles Woodson. So no pressure there.
I don't remember a coach giving an individual on his team an endorsement like that before.
my dog pee'd on the garden fence
Yeah, no. I mean, he's great QB for Meyer's system, but the best player in the Big 10? Not so much.
Also, WTF no Glasgow! Must be that he's a former walk-on and therefore not worthy of consideration.
I think the argument can be made that Barrett is the top player in the B1G. The fiasco with the QB's last season kind of had them both off kilter, imo. Someone pointed out that JT broke a slew of B1G records in '14, so he has that going for him. Guess we'll have to see what he can do with a talented, but unproven squad this year...
given he hasn't played in over a year and his status remaining unknown heading into august
edit: what maison bleue said
Michigan definitely has a few more players that should be on this list.
Yes. Glasgow and Hurst for sure. Even Clark/Stribling could be there if they are willing to put Montae Nicholson on the list.

I'd take Hill over Demetrious Cox as well.
Agreed, although Gary is on the list already. Mone, Glasgow, Hurst and one of Clark/Stribling all got snubbed IMO. But if they put Nicholson on the list, then Hill or Thomas doesn't seem that far-fetched either.
Pretty much a B.S. list. I mean Mike Weber, Donnie Corley, Marshon Lattimore and Nick Bosa are on the list as well. So at least 5 players that haven't played a college football snap are in the top 100.
Geiger at 100 is a stretch. Dantonio did everything he could to avoid having to attempt a FG last year. They reminded me of one of our RR teams when we had no kicker and were going for it on 4th down inside the 30 all year.
If you have 15 Spartans in a year where they lost a lot of talent vs. only 10 for Michigan who is a consensus top 8 team in the country, I just look at the list and say....meh whatever.
I can't believe MSU didn't have 20 players on this list ! I just have so much respect for them and I know they will not decline at all this year. They are a football power. I envy them. Michigan will be lucky to be even in the game against MSU this year. This is all very sincere. Dantonio needs to know how respected his team is. Glad to see BTN taking a few chips of his shoulders.
I agree that leaving Glasgow out is bad.
Wes Lunt at #60 in a league without a lot of known QBs isn't terrible, Lunt is far from the issues in the Illinois offense (his OL was awful and therefore they had zero run game; his best WR is hurt again this season). He's not a great QB, he's fairly average. Average QBs always get ranked around there in these sorts of things.
Nicholson did play a hell of a lot better the last few games. FWIW, I called the issue about him taking awful angles during last summer, and he mostly got away with it as a FR (not always) but started getting burned his second season. But his athletic talent has always been top notch. If the mental game clicks or continues steady improvement from the end of last year, he isn't ranked all that bad. As a projection, it has some merit. Corley, while a talented prospect, still has to beat several guys ahead of him and other talented guys in his class, so that seems a stretch for me. Gieger shouldn't be on the list, that is terrible. Davis was a good player before his injury and after '15 people wouldn't have has an issue with him being top 20, so I'd let that slide. Allen is solid, but he didn't improve as much in his second season to warrent him being as high as he is on the list. Cox is solid but isn't any better than Thomas/Hill in my opinion.
Jackson I don't really have a issue with. The guy doesn't have a great average, but his OL was bottom half of the conference last year quite easily, his QB has potential but was a RS Freshman with clear limitations last year. Their offense as a whole was pretty below par, and he's put up back-to-back 1000 yard games in that offense. At worst, he's shown great durability. Maybe he's not #11, but keeping him out of the top 25 would look bad to the majority of fan bases when they cross check with his stats in that offense. You also have to look at it from that perspective for the BTN. They have to appease fans, and putting Jackson at #11 to almost anyone isn't even close to the worst ranking on that list.
My biggest peaves would be WIll Likely (great return man, overrated CB), LJ Scott (very good potential, will still split carries and I don't think he belongs a guy like Wormley at this stage. Nick Bosa is recovering from a pretty major injury and is behind two really good DEs. Good prospect, probably shouldn't be on the list yet. Jaleel Johnson should be higher.
Also, seeing Voltz from Nebraska on that list is just a sucky reminder.
Are you a magic sloth?
What about Mike Weber and Marshon Lattimore?
