Brionte / Recruiting Thread

Submitted by 1464 on

Haven't seen a thread about recruiting today, which is my biggest interest from now until the bowl game.  Here is a LINK which quotes Brionte as saying he does not want to play in a spread offense.  Not exactly new news but it is the first quote I've seen directly from him.

Any other recruiting updates?

and the mag just for TomVH.  He still does visit reactions, weekly updates and recruiting updates pretty regularly.

In all fairness, there has not been that much recruiting activity since Tom left, up until the last few games.  But remember that Tom has had years to build relationships with these recruits (2012) and Ace has not.  Ace is doing a nice job with 2013 recruits and he will get it going.

Thanks Ace and Tom for all you do!

I think Borges experience and diversity will help with Dunn and future recruits.  He talks about moving toward Man-ball, but has the brains to use the talent he has.  He is flexible.  And I think this experience with Denard will help Borges to use more of his genius playbook.  Man-ball players would be attracted to the intent and direction while Spread players would be attracted to his adaptability and creativity.  All is good, the future is bright for recruiting.

Postscript... I am an unabashed optimist.

Spread off is a great thing if you want to have a good college resume. If you want to impress the pros you want a pro style off in your future. They want to see you run, block, pick up the blitz etc. Its $$$$$$$$$$$ in the pros vs yardage in school. With the O line coming at Mich, Dunn will make much more cash in 3 or 4 years coming here. See where Trent Richerdson is drafted next year not to mention Mark Ingram.

Kiel has been discussed six million times on this site, prior to the season even starting.  Let me break it down quickly:

Flirted with us, some school in Oklahoma (too lazy to check if it was OU or OSU), and Indiana.  Surprised everyone when he committed to Indiana (it is near his home and his brother goes there).  Dropped off our radar.  He decommitted from IU recently and that is that.  Some rumors of him flirting with ND now I think.

We had a few 5* QB prospects we talked to (including Kiel) but from the looks of things with the slots left we're taking: WRs, OL, and Wright or Dunn if they fall into our laps.  Also maybe that 5* DE out of Harrisburg if Brown is really decommitted.

The staff has reached out to no QBs since preseason and talking to some 5*s.  The current theory is that if we take a player of QB like susbtance, its an athletic one that is an insurance policy.  Once we have Morris locked up and ready to go in the system said QB would likely get converted to WR or Percy Harvin type player.

If Kiel knocks on our door we would talk to him, but given his constantly shifting mind I doubt our staff goes hard after him.  Better to spend time getting another true corner, some stud WRs and keeping Morris solid for 2013.

so I do apologize. I'm going through the rivals pages and it's amazing to see Michigan in the mix for a lot of these 4 and 5 star recruits hell Ohio State barely has any interest at all right now but with Meyer at the helm as of 5:15 pm today my guess is that will most likely change although I do not see OSU in the top 10 by signing day even with Meyer. They still have to go through the punishment proceedings yet.

As a general rule of thumb this is where we stand for recruiting in terms of slots to fill:

2 WR, 1 OL, 1 DB (ideally a true CB, main target: Yuri Wright), 1 RB (Dunn), Possible Pharoah Brown replacement if needed

About the only games to play are what happens regard missing out on Wright (do we find a replacement DB, take an extra WR, or grab up some QB at the last minute al la Bellomy) and if one of those WRs is kind of a ATH/QB type prospect as well.

Any other rumors regarding 5*s don't make a lot of sense in terms of Hoke extending them an offer, unless we're filling holes created by decommits (knock on wood).  So if Rivals posts some 5* LB has an interest in us, that's nice and all but the odds of him getting a committable offer are near zero.

Amara Darboh who's a 4 star WR with high interest at Michigan and was at the game this Saturday to witness the win. Good way to promote the program for a young recruit. Don't know a whole lot a about him though.

He committed to Indiana (!) at the end of the summer, but has since backed out of that commitment because he realized that they're Indiana.  Popular speculation has him heading to Oklahoma now.  Rivals still lists us as a school of interest, but I don't think we have much of a shot.

Hoke has been able to pull some pretty impressive moves on the 2011-2012 class that came in this year so you never know. He has yet to visit Michigan it says so right now it looks all up in the air. From his videos he's got promise and potential to be a deep threat QB.

The emergance of Fitz doesn't hurt our chances at getting Dunn. I think it helps show hiim that there is oppurtunity to run the ball. Remember, Al Borges had cadillac and Brown at Auburn, so he does know how to use two great backs together

In other creepy news, Dunn's twitter pic is no longer of him wearing Ohio State gear, but on the sidelines at one of the Michigan games. Commence reading into this! I actually really feel for the guy, he clearly wants to go to Ohio and the cards are just not falling into place for him. That being said, I think he falls in love with Michigan and the coaching staff if he chooses to come here.

I'd say it's a little presumptive to say that his heart is with Ohio as some other people have said as well.  Yes he wanted to go there initially, but a lot of the players from Ohio never even consider other places.  Could be that once he stepped out of the armpit he found his heart in Ann Arbor but he's just a loyal guy.  Could also be what you're saying. There's just no way of knowing.

 Sam Webb

Brionte Dunn informed GoBlueWolverine that  assistant Fred Jackson will be down to see him this week

This should be a great opportunity for Fred to tell Brionte that he is like Denard and Fitz combined.

does anyone on here know what happened with Billy Price and his tweeting during the game?? im seeing little things that point to him being very-pro Ohio while at the game but i dont see anything concrete as to what he said.

his tweets have been removed and there is just a LOT of apologies to sam webb, and other M followers. im curious, so any info would be cool.
