RR has a better coaching mind.  But you still can't win with only 1 of 3 phases of the game. RR missed the memo on defense and special teams as football activities.

Hoke connects with recruits but can't coach his way out of a paper bag. The mystique around RR because of his innovative (10 years ago) spread option far outweighs anything he has actually accomplished in terms of championships.  They are equally meh in my opinion.

he was able to leverage his internship here at UM into other coaching opportunities.

I wish I couuld display his level of incompetence at my job and get paid ridiculous sums of money and new opportunities for which I am not qualified.

If hired, they should duct tape a headset to his cranium, even if it's not plugged in.  Just hoping the year off hasn't affected the rhythm of his clapping.

You can make an argument for turning around SDSU.

Hoke record at Ball State was just about equal to his predecessor, and was WORSE until his one good season.

The three season prior to Hoke:

5-6

5-6

6-6

Hokes record:

4-8

2-9

4-7

5-7

7-6

12-2

He didn't turn BSU around - he continued BSU at historic norm and the same level as his predecessor then had one lucky season.

"Brady is a good human being"

I disagree. I've never met the guy but I don't think he conducts himself in a good way. Constantly getting an attitude with media people just trying to do their jobs, and saying stupid shit in the press this year. That dude just needs to retire. I feel bad for ECU if they really are considering him.

Really? Bo was rather prickly with the media.

Fans grumbled loudly over his style of play, said he was way too stubborn, blah blah blah.

Same with Lloyd.

Neither guy needed to win over the fans and media to be successful. All that matters when the clock shows 0:00 is to have more points than your opponent.

But when we all realized hoke just wasn't that smart as a football coach, with his limited vocabulary and actions that reflected a relatively primitive approach to coaching football, most of us started disliking him. The results on the field contradicted his mantra. We knew then there was no longer any hope.

after his Harbaugh interview did not go well. He said recruits should go elsewhere. Then we see how Harbaugh conducts himself with recruits and their families, with his players and staff. People look better in situations they're comfortable in. Hoke's attitude with the media looked a lot worse to us when he was losing. We were looking at everything he did with a negative bias. As far as coaches go, there are many much worse at dealing with the media. I have to laugh at that not making him a good human being. I'll bet you've never heard a story about Hoke behaving badly towards people he meets with away from the spotlight.

Maybe you just caught that one audio clip, but Brady praised the team all season. Every single game he picked us to win, gave credit Harbaugh about his coaching job. People in the media such as Sam, Ira and Matt Shepherd praise how good of a guy he is but we're somehow supposed to take your word on how awful a human being he is?

Man, tough crowd. ECU is not Michigan, and I still think Brady Hoke can be a good coach. He's a great leader of men, and I'm glad to see he's getting another opportunity.

Good luck, Brady! Hope you get the job!

I never dragged Rich Rodriguez into this, but since you did I don't think he's a great leader of men either.

Second, you have not offered any evidence of his "great leader of men" other than 4 recruits committed to him.  He might be a very likeable guy, in fact I did like him, but he simply wasn't a good head coach and has nothing on his resume to suggest he is other than basically two succesful seasons over his entire head coaching career.

From your comment about helping our bottom line, I assume you're saying that Hoke had some offset language in his Michigan contract, so that any salary he receives from another coaching job would reduce Michigan's payout to him.

But if that's the case, what's to prevent Hoke from coaching ECU for a salary of $1? Obviously ECU isn't going to pay him more than his Michigan deal was worth, so Hoke's total pay would be the same no matter what ECU pays him.

offset by any coaching salary. ECU has to pay him a reasonable market value or Michigan would be justified in not paying that buyout. Hoke can take a salary on the low side, like Jedd Fisch did, but it's got to be a real coaching salary.

ECU paid Ruffin McNeill a base salary of $400K, plus "other incentives" including money for bowl participation, conference championship game appearances and titles, academic progress, television show and percentages of season ticket sales and Pirate Club fundraising dollars.  I'm not sure how that kind of compensation is being treated for purposes of the offset, but Hoke could feasible accept a base salary of only about $200K.
