Blake Corum provides injury update

I was tempted to offer an update on a random transfer portal tidbit about a player that thinks Michigan is the capital of Canada. Instead, here's actual information!

In an interview with 247 that is not behind a paywall, Blake Corum offers updates about his injury:

It’s just a nagging pain. So I’m just, you know, we have the best trainers, I’m in there every day with them. They’re getting me right. So like I said, we'll see, we'll see. If I play Saturday, whenever I’m able to play, day by day, you know. Stay with my teammates, get them right, stay in the film and then, you know, treat every game, every opportunity like it’s a championship game. So I'm preparing the same each week whether I’m playing or not. So we shall see Saturday whether I’m playing or not.

Is it their job to talk all the time and create lame narrative from thin air?  Couldn't they talk less like announcers did in the 90's?  When I attend games at the stadium I don't feel I miss anything with the lack of announcers constantly blabbering their stream of consciousness.  Maybe the standard should be that they should talk when there's a really interesting point, and use the teleprompter to illustrate, rather than that they have to talk after every play until the next play.

Just my guess -- but pretty sure it's a bone bruise on the knee. If it were any type of strain he probably wouldn't have been allowed to try to go on Saturday. Knee bruises hurt like hell and scare the shit out of you (makes you think you blew your knee out). I took a few in my day getting knee to knee contact while setting screens in basketball. The pain sucks and the swelling makes it hard to maneuver. They can last from days to months.

I would see hockey players go down with a knee-to-knee, and hear Mickey Redmond say how it hurt so much. I never fully understood why until I took one at first base with a runner who was much larger, and found out that Mickey wasn't kidding. No structural damage, but the pain / puffiness lasted for the next couple of weeks.

Blake is the team MVP.... I hope he can go on Saturday and cement his spot as the Heisman winner.... I just doubt that he's going to be 100%.... I'd rather him get right and be ready for the playoff....  Edwards can fill his shoes in Indy.

That being said.....

If you can delivery a turkey, you can deliver a touchdowns.

The hurt player, the out of shape player, the poorly prepared player and the bad player all look alike.  Except Ronnie Bell and Blake Corum, they look like coaches when they're hurt.  GO BLUE

Not to mention, its crazy to think that you are losing a Heisman level player and are likely making a step up with Edwards. I think Edwards is going to be the best running back this program has ever seen and maybe one of its best players ever. He is a do it all back.

Edwards is the #14 running back in the nation according to PFF, and that is at a backup. So our back up is better than 90% of the FBS starters. He will without a doubt be the best back in the nation and with his recieving talent might have a legit shot at the heisman.

I'd be surprised if he played Saturday because they probably don't need him to beat Purdue and a healthy Corum is going to be essential for UM to mount a legit chance at a national title.

Yeah I thought there may be a small tear as well given the brace he wore.  I don't think you would wear that type of brace for a bruise.  My son suffered a grade 2 MCL tear about 6 weeks ago at football practice.  Grade 2 is a partial tear that heals on its own in 4-6 weeks per the Dr.  Doc said he could play prior to that with a brace if he could handle the pain. All that to say (not saying it's an MCL for Blake), hopefully it's something that will heal up on its own in a few more weeks.

So, in other words, he is day to day. And might be a gametime decision Saturday. At this point, I expect all the guys are beat up and getting treatment for an assortment of ailments that impact their overall well being but not their ability to play, such as Blake's running mate.

In any case, I'd like to see Blake try it Saturday but not risk aggravating his injury so that it jeopardizes his more likely availability on New Years Eve when we will really need him.

I doesn't seem to be a structural problem, else he wouldn't have come back on the field in the 2nd half of Illinois, nor to start The Game.  My concern, as a layman, is that pain will alter his mechanics and that could lead to a structural injury.  From limited knowledge I'd be inclined to have Corum rest, recuperate, and get ready for December 31st.

Not worth starting another thread to ask a question I don't know the answer to, but what about Donovan Edwards?  Obviously it's a hand issue, but do we have any info on how bad it is?  Obviously he had a hell of a game last weekend but all the same I'd like our odds in any game a lot more if he had full use of his hands.

Maybe others have some experience with what is assumed to be the injury. I took a line drive off my knee at third base, playing in for a possible bunt. Never took a helmet to the knee, so not sure exactly how similar it is.

I experienced that I could run a few days afterward in a straight line with severe discomfort. However, stopping and trying to circle the bases hurt so much that I fell down or hopped on my good leg. After a couple of weeks, I could play again, but I felt some discomfort.  Unfortunately, it was still tender, and if I stopped too fast or hit it on something, it still hurt. It took a couple of months before I felt 100%.

As I said it's just speculation on what Blake might be dealing with and hoping he's back to 100% soon!
