Bill O'Brien (Bama OC) and Doug Marrone (Bama OL) have covid

Quick, exit the bubble!

The Bama coaching rehab project is alive and well. Two ex NFL coaches on staff - one as a position coach. Sheesh.
December 22nd, 2021 at 1:28 PM ^
Haha that's your takeaway from this? They've been there all season! Just ask sad Alabama fans about it.

It is only a matter of time before every team, including ours, is affected by omicron....
December 22nd, 2021 at 2:33 PM ^
Here is to hoping that time is after January 10th for Michigan and that no one has a serious case.
December 22nd, 2021 at 2:58 PM ^
No one has died from Omicron. No one. I don’t know why they are even testing anymore. It’s over. Let us move on with our lives.
December 22nd, 2021 at 3:03 PM ^
A guy in Texas just died from omicron. He was unvaccinated and had the virus before.
December 22nd, 2021 at 7:27 PM ^
He died with omicron. That’s very different than dying from omicron.

...I'll take, "fuck it, I'm just making it up anyway" for 400, please.
...that's our daily double!
December 22nd, 2021 at 5:48 PM ^
The SEC strategy seems to be for both teams to get it early and be out of covid protocols by game time.
December 22nd, 2021 at 8:36 PM ^
Wasn't that LSU's plan last summer? How'd that work out, I wonder...?
December 22nd, 2021 at 11:13 PM ^
Except the SEC protocols are 10 day quarantine followed by a 4 day re-acclimation to evaluate any potential heart conditions.

Does everything covid related NEED to be posted?
December 22nd, 2021 at 1:12 PM ^
Maybe we need just one CFP CovidStorm thread for everything to be dumped.

December 22nd, 2021 at 1:25 PM ^
Agreed.
For what it's worth, my good friend and also brother got covid, one a physician the other a researcher, both at the umich hospital, both in their 30s and otherwise good health
The only symptoms of both were slight loss of taste/smell for a couple days during a 10 day required absence from work. Otherwise both just isolated in their homes (and played a lot of video games lol). Neither spread it to any of their family members in the house.
They are both back working now, both said it was a welcome vacation, and the symptoms were real, but otherwise didn't have any other effects.
(meanwhile another friend got sick and was on the couch/out of work for 5 days, i visited her (she got tested, negative), never caught what she had, for what it's worth)
This is not a pro-THIS or anti-THAT statement, this is just a pro-what happened, N=2. I highly doubt the coaches will be out for the CFP games.
I get the feeling this virus is much weaker/everyone's immunity is much more trained (than compared to novel encounters--just like every other virus/illness exposure).
People are going to get it, but it does *seem* much more mild (and that would make sense given previous natural exposures immunities/vaccines)
December 22nd, 2021 at 1:39 PM ^
definitely watching my Ps and Qs here, but I agree that Omnicron is less severe but that's only if you are vaccinated. I think that was the point of vaccinations - not that you wouldn't ever get it, but that if/when you did it would be less severe and not require hospitalizations.
December 22nd, 2021 at 2:12 PM ^
Yes, that is the point of the vaccines. Still baffles me that people don't understand that.
December 22nd, 2021 at 2:20 PM ^
B.S. Not all vaccines work that way. Some are one and done for life or for years. Plus that's not how they marketed them when they first came out . . . They had no idea how long immunity would last and there was little talk of breakthrough cases or boosters until later when data showed immunity from infection wanes, but protection from severe disease seems to stick around much longer. It's more baffling that you're baffled.
December 22nd, 2021 at 2:43 PM ^
It's been discussed for months now. Not that hard to understand. Similar to the flu shot most people get every year. You have to keep getting it each year for it to be effective.
December 22nd, 2021 at 3:48 PM ^
Different beast. They decide what to throw in the annual flu vaccine about 8 months ahead of time by looking at what is prevalent early in the year and making some intelligent guesses. You get flu shots each year because the strains and variants that are prevalent differ each year. And sometimes they guess wrong and flu shot is less effective. So it is not the same shot and it is not a booster. It is just a given year’s flu shot tailored for that year.
December 22nd, 2021 at 9:14 PM ^
MRNA technology likely to change the flu vaccine as well.
Yes, the original premise was an urgent vaccine to deal with the original Covid-19. As the virus and our understanding have progressed, the attack plan has changed.
It would be great if everyone just acknowledged the adaptability of the situation and didn’t debate 2020 or even 6 months ago. Everyone needs to adapt as fast (ideally faster) than the virus.
December 22nd, 2021 at 2:51 PM ^
Take offense if you want, but your statement completely leaves out people that have had the virus. And lived. People who have had an immune response is much more appropriate, but people who had the virus are completely ignored in this binary world of vax/anti-vax. Some of us had it before tests were available and WAY before vaccines were available and did fine.
December 22nd, 2021 at 2:53 PM ^
But that "natural immunity" wears off at some point just like the vaccine.
December 22nd, 2021 at 3:26 PM ^
Even if you have had the virus, getting the vaccine later can still be helpful.
December 22nd, 2021 at 3:36 PM ^
The problem with that is, just because you've had it once doesn't mean you now have immunity. Plenty of people have gotten it a second time. If your point is that it needs to be studied more, yes, it should. A friend of mine got it very early on, in February of 2020, and participated in a year long study where they measured his antibodies over the course of 12 months. His stayed at high levels for about 9 mos but others' levels dropped after 2-3 months to pre-infection levels. I would imagine more research has been done on this subject.
December 22nd, 2021 at 4:12 PM ^
…and 2% died.
December 22nd, 2021 at 1:57 PM ^
Many people feel that way. There will be more.
December 22nd, 2021 at 1:09 PM ^
Of course we finally make the playoff and it's a complete shit show even compared to last year.
December 22nd, 2021 at 5:47 PM ^
Michigan might win the whole thing just by doing what comes naturally . . . hiding out in the submarine.
Michigan Yellow Submarine FTW.
December 22nd, 2021 at 1:11 PM ^
Simple solution: Scrap the semis and just have Michigan play Cincy in the final.
December 22nd, 2021 at 1:18 PM ^
Works for me
December 22nd, 2021 at 1:33 PM ^
Honestly, Georgia and Alabama already played a couple weeks ago. Who even wants to see that again?
Good idea. Send it over for sign off from management. Solid work for the day, you can clock out a half hour early!
December 22nd, 2021 at 2:13 PM ^
This would be funny if it weren't true.
December 22nd, 2021 at 1:34 PM ^
everybody knows we're #1. claim the championship now and tell them to go play their exhibition games without us. kidding of course, but can you imagine the crud storm that would start? we'd be the 'new nebraska' (not to be confused with caymen nebraska).
December 22nd, 2021 at 2:05 PM ^
That’s what bama did a bunch of years ago. They went to sleep one day with like six titles and the next day they had 11 or 12. Their SID found a slew of titles to claim. I don’t have a link, just trust what I’m saying
December 22nd, 2021 at 1:37 PM ^
At least give Michigan a bye. Georgia already had their playoff loss to Alabama.
December 22nd, 2021 at 2:31 PM ^
Or just shorten the CFP process. #1 plays #2. Bring on Bama.
December 22nd, 2021 at 1:15 PM ^
Had a first happen today. Three virtual meetings and all three had a different person positive for Covid. Wildfire. I am still going to Miami though. It’s happening!
