"We anticipate both being able to coach in the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Goodyear Cotton Bowl.” - Nick Saban

Does everything covid related NEED to be posted?

Agreed.

For what it's worth, my good friend and also brother got covid, one a physician the other a researcher, both at the umich hospital, both in their 30s and otherwise good health

The only symptoms of both were slight loss of taste/smell for a couple days during a 10 day required absence from work. Otherwise both just isolated in their homes (and played a lot of video games lol). Neither spread it to any of their family members in the house.

They are both back working now, both said it was a welcome vacation, and the symptoms were real, but otherwise didn't have any other effects.

(meanwhile another friend got sick and was on the couch/out of work for 5 days, i visited her (she got tested, negative), never caught what she had, for what it's worth)

This is not a pro-THIS or anti-THAT statement, this is just a pro-what happened, N=2. I highly doubt the coaches will be out for the CFP games.

I get the feeling this virus is much weaker/everyone's immunity is much more trained (than compared to novel encounters--just like every other virus/illness exposure).

People are going to get it, but it does *seem* much more mild (and that would make sense given previous natural exposures immunities/vaccines)

B.S.  Not all vaccines work that way. Some are one and done for life or for years. Plus that's not how they marketed them when they first came out . . . They had no idea how long immunity would last and there was little talk of breakthrough cases or boosters until later when data showed immunity from infection wanes, but protection from severe disease seems to stick around much longer. It's more baffling that you're baffled.

Different beast. They decide what to throw in the annual flu vaccine about 8 months ahead of time by looking at what is prevalent early in the year and making some intelligent guesses. You get flu shots each year because the strains and variants that are prevalent differ each year. And sometimes they guess wrong and flu shot is less effective. So it is not the same shot and it is not a booster. It is just a given year’s flu shot tailored for that year.

MRNA technology likely to change the flu vaccine as well.

Yes, the original premise was an urgent vaccine to deal with the original Covid-19. As the virus and our understanding have progressed, the attack plan has changed.

It would be great if everyone just acknowledged the adaptability of the situation and didn’t debate 2020 or even 6 months ago. Everyone needs to adapt as fast (ideally faster) than the virus.

Take offense if you want, but your statement completely leaves out people that have had the virus. And lived. People who have had an immune response is much more appropriate, but people who had the virus are completely ignored in this binary world of vax/anti-vax. Some of us had it before tests were available and WAY before vaccines were available and did fine.

The problem with that is, just because you've had it once doesn't mean you now have immunity. Plenty of people have gotten it a second time. If your point is that it needs to be studied more, yes, it should. A friend of mine got it very early on, in February of 2020, and participated in a year long study where they measured his antibodies over the course of 12 months. His stayed at high levels for about 9 mos but others' levels dropped after 2-3 months to pre-infection levels. I would imagine more research has been done on this subject.

Had a first happen today.  Three virtual meetings and all three had a different person positive for Covid.  Wildfire.  I am still going to Miami though.  It’s happening!
