BBrown: Quick Update On David Sills
Yesterday Sam Webb broke the news that 2015 QB David Sills could be visiting Ann Arbor some time soon and I was able to semi-confirm that with him tonight.
Sills rose to fame as the 8th grader who committed to USC a few years ago. Today Sills remains committed to USC, albeit softly, but he has interest in checking out Michigan's campus.
Brandon Watson and Freddy Canteen are former teammates of Sills and enrolled at Michigan in January. Sills says that they both played a big part in his growing interest in the Wolverines.
Yeah, I believe I'll be up there in Ann Arbor next week. Brandon and Freddy have really talked me in to going up to see the campus. They've told me that it's the best place for football and academics and that life after Michigan will be great. They love it there. I'm still committed to USC but I'm keeping my options fairly open.
There have been a lot of changes at USC since Sills first committed. He says he's comfortable with the new staff and fellow verbal commitment quarterback Ricky Town will not deter him from becoming a Trojan if he decides to honor his own verbal commitment. He says there will be competition anywhere he decides to go and another player will not factor in to his decision.
-------------------------------
It'll be interesting to see if this visit does take place and it will be even more interesting to see what kind of impression it makes on Sills if it does. Clearly there are a couple of advocates already in Ann Arbor for bringing Sills into the fold and Watson and Canteen have done their part.
What are your thoughts on Sills? Is he overhyped because he's the 8th grade phenom who committed to USC?
He's a mid-level 3-star prospect on the 247Composite. That doesn't scream overhyped to me. I think he was head and shoulders above everyone when he was younger and now the field has leveled, but I think he's accurately rated and ranked.
Just from what he said David Sills does not seem to be the best option for Michigan.
Still, it is always good to have someone to check out the program.
Love the quick updates.
Based on what I've heard/read (pretty shabby measuring stick if we're honest with ourselves) I'm not super enthused about the prospect of getting Sills vs some of the other guys we're in on, but unfortunately turning him away at this point might not be great for our relationship with the football factory that his father created...
Brandon,
I've not followed the QB recruiting too closely (a lot of moving parts there it seems post Borges). Given the quarterback offers out there with Michigan can you simplify this for me with a list of the offered quarterbacks and their likelihood of actual commitment? Also, any other offers you see occurring (i.e., local product Malzone etc.) and how you see that factoring in.
Thanks.
Check out what Magnus wrote on his blog. He does an oustanding job of reviewing all the prospects film. Breaking down each players pros, cons and how well they fit into our system. He also posted it yesterday on this blog.
Just so I don't lock your post, Crazy Canuck, here's the active link. I guess yours got cut off:

I can never seem to add links and stuff. I basically copied what I could read in the link. Great read as usual Magnus.
Whatever happened to his teammates, Crosby, Nash and Young?
Think about this many times, its Stills, not Sills. Cannot be forgotten. And you will survive being bested.
Cosby, Sills, Ash, and Yung? Are they still together?
I predict he'll be vacationing in La Paz before too long.
Negging you. I doubt you are around very long.
Your views are interesting and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
Unfortunately Stidham just committed to Texas Tech. Hopefully this is just a "place-holder" commitment and he will still look around.
Stidham never seemed that interested, and he just committed to Texas Tech. Don Bosco is not a football player.
We're probably only taking one quarterback.
Why you had to iterate the lack of an existence of a player named Don Bosco is completely beyond my realm of rational comprehension. But it made me laugh that someone actually thought that was a player's name. Henceforth, I don't think "probably" quite does it in the conversation of not taking more than one QB. I think right now, and I could be wrong, we've got 15-18 available for '15. Taking more than 1 doesn't strike me as a good move.
Right now Michigan has roughly 13 spots open (9 graduating seniors, 4 open scholarships) for 2015. It will probably expand, but that's where we stand right now.
As for Don Bosco...he's an elite talent you can't afford to pass up, regardless of numbers.
scholly openings. Maybe he is not counting guys like Glasgow and you are? Either way, I bet we end up with about 18 total openings as I think we may see more attrition than in previous years with the depth chart finally filling up.
Here are the numbers:

Doesn't Michigan's scholarship allowance return to 85 for 2015?
Yes, that's the scholarship count for 2014, which shows unused scholarships (4) and the seniors who will graduate (9 altogether, which includes Gardner, Ryan, etc.), and it adds up to 13.
For 2015 the allowance increases by 4.
In 2015 seniors that will no longer be eligible 9
subtotal 13, I understand that
What about the five scholarships from Ash, Bryant, Furman, Pazkorz, and Rawls?
All of those players would have been seniors, anyway, except for Bryant. They do not add to the size of the 2015 class. Counting those 5 guys, we would have had 86 scholarship players this year (so you know someone would have had to go to to get down to 85).
A 13-member senior class means that you have 13 scholarships to fill in February. A 9-member senior class with 4 unused* scholarships still leaves you with 13 scholarships to fill in February.
*All scholarships have to be allotted, so all that means is that 4 walk-ons will have their tuition paid for.
using all my fingers and toes and remaining strands of hair, I finally figured it out.
Thanks for your help.
Glad I could be of service.
I heard that Peppers played with him for a couple years! LOL, it was late!
Unlimited chocolate syrup for the team that signs Bosco. (this may only make sense to those of us that grew up in the 60's).
Wasn't he one of the mob bosses at the five families meeting called by Don Corleone in Godfather I?
in the Holiday Bowl and won an NC.
(btw- I do know that was Robbie)
Al Pacino was in it too.
