OMAHA BOUND! FIRE BAKICH!!
A few things:
Michigan has by far the worst RPI at #88 to get into the tourney.
#10 overall seed ND with a brual draw having to face CMU's ace Andrew Taylor. He is 11-3 with a 1.21 ERA and .86 WHIP. We might have really lucked out with this draw to be able to avoid Taylor if we can get past UConn and then get to face CMU's 2nd starter.
Really surprised they made it in. Terrible draw but that is expected with the way Michigan finished the season. Would have been better off out west somewhere.
Lol it's a much better draw than what Nebraska got as a 2 seed.
how is it a terrible draw?
please stop with the auto victim card play. It is absolutely not a terrible draw whatsoever. See my post above if you want some details.
Playing 3 northern teams only a couple hours away from A2 seems pretty ideal.
Why are you so negative, Dean?
I don’t think Michigan could have drawn up a better draw. They could very well have been snubbed; instead they stay fairly close to home, with three other northern teams, the host has a reasonably difficult first game, and if they win the regional they aren’t stuck playing at the top overall seed like last time. I doubt it happens, but if you wanted the best possible path to the CWS, this is probably it. I’m usually quick to whine about all M-related things, but this is close to ideal.

So you'd expect the team with the worst RPI in the field to get a favorable draw?
Might literally be the best draw a 3 seed could hope for.
It was nail biting time their for awhile..and for good reason...Last 4 in...eerily similiar to 2019...I like the draw...ND is not far and #10 seed so it couldve been alot ALOT worse being last 4 in...
DEJAVU ALL OVER AGAIN!!!!!
UGH.
As a CMU grad, I'm super torn.
When it comes to the major sports (Basketball, Football), I will always root for Michigan if they face CMU head on. I realize that CMU beating Michigan in football or basketball won't lead to anything; just does a ton of damage to Michigan.
But in a sport like college baseball where I don't have a ton of passion in following, I'm OK with either result.
A fellow CMU grad here. I feel the same way. Needless to say, I'll root for both teams until (if) they meet, but then I'd just put on my neutral cap and be happy either way.
Fire up Chips and Go Blue!
Hopefully both teams will play fair and have fun.
You think YOU’RE torn? Imagine being Mike Danna right now.
No way!! Your Alma mater has to come first in everything
Congratulations to Backich and the team. GO BLUE!
I’m more surprised that UConn has a baseball team lol.
In 2020, when Michigan opened as a Top 5 team according to Baseball America and rose to 1 after beating Vanderbilt in a nationally televised season opener. That same weekend after beating Vandy, Cal Poly and Arizona State, they lost to UConn.
UConn is actually regularly pretty good, for an East coast team, at least. Among their most famous alums in recent years is George Springer of World Champion* Houston Astros fame (as of this year he is with the Blue Jays).
It is about as good of a draw as we could have hoped for. Inconsistency has done us in this year. Hopefully we will find some luck and advance.
Stranding TONS of base runners hasnt helped either
Great news. They have a real shot at winning this regional.
To hell with Notre Dame
Beat UConn and mercy rule ND. (except mercy doesn't apply in NCAA playoffs; beat them by 10 or more!)
Good luck guys and Go Blue!

Michigan vs UConn Friday night at 7 pm. It just might be time for a little road trip.
This Regional is Ripe for the Pickings...We have a real shot here and we sholuld have a decent amount of fans there...Im cautiosly optimistic...Go Blue
Please don't shoot me for this question:
Could someone please give a reminder of format? How many games would we have to beat UCONN in to advance?
The regionals are a double elimination format. Beating UCONN would mean they'd play the winner of ND/CMU. If they won that game they'd play the winner of the "loser bracket."
Regional rounds are double elim.
winners advance to super regions are best 2/3 head to head
winners there advance to the CWS
CMU going to Williamsport!
Do all teams in the regional play each other? If so, when would Michigan and CMU possibly play? I don’t know how any of this works. I’m a CMU grad so I’m not the smartest.

That should make you smarter than Sparty though.
Oh that goes without saying...
Every team doesn't necessarily play each other. It's a double elimination format for the regionals. So if CMU loses to ND and Michigan wins, CMU would play UCONN and if they lost again they'd be out without having played Michigan. The next round, the super regionals, are a best of three format.
