Barrett out for Remainder of Year with Ankle Fracture

Submitted by alum96 on

OSU is confirming surgery tomorrow and Barrett lost for remaining 2 games.  Obviously a huge loss.  Not a doctor so with modern medicine not sure if its worse or better than a ACL or if this affects 2015 but probably puts those Braxton Miller to Oregon rumors to rest.  Obviously injury can happen on any play to a QB but Urbz's system exposes QBs to hits more than any other.

Let's hope for better news for Drake who played fantastic today and while OSU D is not great it sure isn't Indiana's.  We saw the major drop off in the run game once Drake went out and at this point sets up a great 3 headed battle for #1 TB with Green v Drake (and I assume Isaac).  Would be a shame if its something that would have him miss part of next year.

Next year we will be a run heavy offense and I suspect we will be quite good at it. Our coaching candidates are all big downhill run guys as well which should ease the transition. Harbaugh, Kill, McElwain.

Why wouldn't they be a coaching candidates? They are both some of the best non Harbaugh candidates out there nationally, have improved worse teams than ours, Kill would recruit the midwest well, both would love to coach a team with the pieces already there for their style of offense Drake Johnson, Deveon Smith, Ty Isaac etc. Rmember that we beat Minnesota 58-0 in 2011 and they are now on the verge of possibly making the big ten title game.

want this on a kid but i wish the worst of luck to urban on succeeding. They'll have quite the controversy at QB next year, wish we had the same issue.

I wonder if the playoff committee will take this into account and shun OSU from the top four (even if they win next week)  knowing they won't get far with Cardale Einstein as their qb?

Unless a bad cartilage injury, he should be back well in in time for next season. So braxton to Oregon rumors can continue unless something atypical occurs with his recovery.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jones comes in and does pretty much the same thing.  That system seems to make stars of everyone.

Then again, if OSU sneaks into the playoff and draws Alabama, that could get very ugly.

that much for Barrett until he had a chance to establish himself. Jones has a chance to audition to play Alabama by beating Wisconsin. If he can, then game on, I would say. If Missouri beats Alabama in the conference championship game, then should Missouri get in ahead of the technical SEC also-rans? If not, then how do you justify the god-damn championship games? Still wondering what the point of a championship game between Olklahoma and K-state was in 2003. Oh yeah -- money.

Barrett struggled his first couple of games this year.  It took him a few games to get settled and get in the groove.  OSU had a nice string of cupcakes after VaTech - Kent St, Cincy, Maryland, Rutgers.  Jones isn't going to have the luxury of going up against a cupcake next weekend.  Not saying Jones is going to implode but he's going to be facing a pretty solid defense in his first game.

That sucks. He made an amazing improvement throughout their season. I guess that's what actual coaching does! Looks like Cardale might wanna start playing school. Fast.

if OSU managed to squeak by in the B1G championship game with a backup, but the playoff committee decided that, without Barrett, they shouldn't be in the top 4 regardless of what happens to the teams ahead of them.

Denny Franklin and his teammates would be entitled to just a bit of schadenfreude at that outcome.

That being said, hate to see any player injured. Even Buckeyes.

they should either be forced to pick from the winners of respective conference championship games first, or they should get rid of the championship games. The championship games make a mockery of the regular season and the selection committees make a mockery of the championship games. The championship games are a wasted opportunity to winnow the field of 8 in a 3-stage playoff. I hope all this money-and-inertia-mediated crap eventually gets ironed out of the system.

I would agree with that.  But there is a difference between mobile QB and running QB.  Mobile QB to me is a Randall Cunningham (old school), Donovan McNabb, and Russell Wilson.  They will get hit less than Navarre or Henne.

Running QBs running into the heart of a defense 15-25x a game is a whole different animal - see Vick, Braxton Miller, Denard, etc.

It is a system that makes stars because the QB accounts for so many total yards but that guy takes a ton of abuse over a year.  Denard even when healthy would have to leave almost every game for 3-4 plays just to get his alignment fixed.

Tough break for the kid but I refuse to feel sorry for anyone else associated with OSU, especially their fans. They're all a spoiled bunch who don't know what football struggling really is.
