B1G has some PUTRID QBs

Submitted by superstringer on October 21st, 2023 at 7:32 PM

It’s embarrassing how bad some B1G QBs are and the putridity is not limited to the West.

Mr Most Putrid: Drew Allar.  Cant’t throw a long pass even if the defense stayed in the locker room.

But other putrid QBs go to:

Iowa: Hall can say he is a backup AND “coached” by Brian Ferentz so he has valid excuse notes from the doctor. But he is unwatchably bad. And until the last drive of the game, I-wa (No O) had NEGATIVE YARDS in the 2d half.

Minny: Kalifikeleilahaleli (or whatever his name is) threw the ball into the ground in front of multiple open receivers. Awful.

Indiana: “If you have two QBs, you have none.” But what if you have two truly horrible QBs? Do you have less than none? Yes, yes you do

Its sad that even bad QBs at NU (either one), NU (the other one) and Rutgerz are not so putrid as to not be bad enough to qualify as among the very worst QBs in this conference.

PROGRAMMING NOTE: I reserve the right to modify this list in 3.5 hrs when we see hiw bad Sparty’s QB is.

Stroud had experience playing under heavy pressure at Ohio State. Two games worth!

To be fair to Stroud, I thought he did have a great game in 2021 and made some nice throws under pressure. Yes, he had NFL quality receivers to throw to--which never hurts--but he was able to make some great throws. It wasn't his fault his defense couldn't stop the run.

He didn't have a bad game in 2022, either. He did make some questionable decisions--like the shovel pass intercepted by Taylor Upshaw. But that can be addressed by good coaching, and frankly at that point in the game they were desperate (i.e., down 38-23). It wasn't his fault his defense didn't bother with safety help, either.

They got a good one in JJ though. He’s lighting East Lansing on fire right now and I’m honestly okay with saying best ever at UM at this point.

Drew Allar has been exposed. Glad to see that he failed the test at the Shoe.

Michigan will be ready for him on Nov 11th. We're a lot better than the Buckeye defense.

Yeah. As someone with an oft-mispelled Eastern European name, this hit a nerve for me, sorry. Athan Kaliakmanis is of Greek descent, and his name really isn't that hard to spell, as far as anglicized Greek names go. Pretty much spelled how it sounds, as long as you remember to use K instead of C. He's got a Wikipedia page too, it took me five seconds to find it to make sure I got it right. The way that you're making fun of his name makes it look like you think he's of AAPI/Polynesian descent, given the -ele ending you gave him, so in coming up with that, you dismissed his Greek heritage out of hand, -and- made fun of the names of a whole different culture at the same time. Let's just try to be better than that?

Illini sophomore starting QB Luke Altmeyer doesn't have the greatest of stats so far, but from what I have seen of him playing, he seems to be somewhat a pretty decent QB albeit on an awful Illini offensive team that appears to generally be lacking in skill position players.

He's hitting 63.3% of his passes after 7 games but with 9 interceptions to go with just 8 TD passes.  And at 6'2" 195 lbs, he probably needs to spend some time in the weight room during the upcoming off-season.

This is especially notable because I don't remember a year where there were more good QB's nationally:

- JJ of course

- Williams @ USC

- Penix @ Washington

- Hartman @ ND

- Ewers @ Texas

- Nix @ Oregon

- Injured Rising @ Utah

- Sanders @ Colorado

- Travis @ FSU

- Maye @ UNC

- Daniels @ LSU

Pretty Good:

Gabriel @ Oklahoma

Rattler @ South Carolina

Young guys with real potential

- Fifita @ Arizona

- Moore @ UCLA has flashed skills but pulled for Garbers (who isn't bad)

Also notable are guys who transferred FROM the BIG and improved their stock:

- Penix

- Ewers

- Milton

- Have to add Burrow just to rub a bit of salt

There are probably more in every category I'm missing, but the point is the B1G is sorely lacking in good QB play, while the rest of the country is thriving. Certainly in part because actual defense is played in B1G - but B1G coaches need to step up their game in recruiting, game-planning and QB development.

Also amazing how average OSU looks without a superstar at QB - it's been awhile.
