That's possible, but I'd say anyone with average intelligence could have also made the same conclusion.

Emailed him and thanked him for his effort, and told him to keep voicing his opinion if it doesn't change next week. Couldn't hurt to send him emails of support, because you know there are trolls sending him emails filled with...not so nice things.

IT'S HAPPENING!
Keep lobbying our case folks! It's starting to stick.
Public perception really is at a tipping point. We are starting to see it.
This could happen.
November 28th, 2016 at 12:53 PM ^
do you see this besides this site? Just curious. Thrilled, but curious.
November 28th, 2016 at 2:32 PM ^
I've been trying to lobby our case on reddit, although I've been treading very lightly. I even started a thread questioning Wiscy's argument to be in the playoff EVEN if they beat PSU, because their resume just really doesn't hold up to ours if Colorado beats Washington. There was a Wiscy fan trying to take the angle of looking at ranks from the time they were played, and subsequently pegged MSU and NEB as quality wins.. That was very silly. I've seen numerous Buckeye fans say they think we are still the 3rd or 4th best team in the country. So, it's out there, I think.

Herbstreit. Pat Forde. ESPN. "College Football Sunday" show. Numerous other outlets.
They are all coming around to the "If Ohio State is in then Michigan should be in." point of view.

Take out the cut and dry false start and they were penaltized for 1 yard in 60 minutes +2 OTs.
November 28th, 2016 at 12:39 PM ^
Even that false state penalty seemed to be whistled pretty late. I remember jumping up and down pointing out that the RT moved early and was about to explode that it wasn't being called when they finally blew it dead.

I wish I had the time to go back and rewatch the game analyzing every spot. Before the first half I noticed every spot of theirs was generous while we were being shorted 6 inches regularly.
This is a game of inches. Doing this goes unnoticed and has an impact eventually. I'm not talking about the one spot in OT. If you are going to affect the game as an official, this is the easiest way without people catching on. if someone.. say a college kid about to go on break with ESPN app, can pause and screenshot when where the play is down and compare that to where it is marked for both teams, it would be greatly appreciated. This is something that if it was a pattern, could have a serious impact on people's opinion of the game.
The power of reddit and the internet would come in handy if there was something to that.

This opens up a issue I've thought about. If a team goes on the road and take its opponent to overtime before losing (essentially a tie game), can we really conclude that it was inferior and should be ranked lower?
November 28th, 2016 at 11:39 AM ^
doesn't make sense for Michigan to drop after that game, no. They should not be ranked ahead of OSU but they should not drop. What that game proved is that both teams were exactly who everybody thought they were.

If you give any, and I mean any - like even just 1 point - value to home field advantage, you have to conclude that Michigan is a better team than Ohio State.

We may actually have a better case over Wisconsin than Penn State. Penn State has that head to head win over CFP #2 Ohio State. Wisconsin does not. They really don't have any big wins. LSU is ancient (and irrelevant) history.
November 28th, 2016 at 12:20 PM ^
Agreed, it is Michigan's best interest if Wisky wins. If PSU wins, then PSU, OSU and Michigan would all have beaten Wisky, they'd be 1-1 against each other and PSU would have the B1G Championship and OSU has only one loss.
OTOH, if Wisky wins, Wisky lost to both OSU and Michigan. With the better overall record and head to head win, OSU would seem to be in (unless the committee puts lots of emphasis on the conference championship, it which case Michigan is out either way). And now you're down to Wisky v. Michigan if there is a second B1G team. Michigan won head to head, Wisky has B1G championship. Both took OSU to OT and lost, but Wisky was at home. Could be interesting.
Washington or Clemson needs to lose (hopefully both) and it wouldn't hurt if Oklahoma lost too.
November 28th, 2016 at 12:33 PM ^
in that scenario (Washington and/or Clemson also lose) the committee might just say fuck it and put them in: Conference champion plus their loss to CMU was even less legit than ours to OSU ... that last second hook and ladder play should not have happened so they've really only had one loss. I know their SOS is crap, but...
November 28th, 2016 at 1:00 PM ^
Yep. Got to root hard for Wiscy. If they win, I think the committee would take Michigan before they take Wiscy. If they take two B1G teams... which they should.
