Of course you know the deal O’neil.
October 28th, 2021 at 1:57 PM ^
So, I just saw John O'Neill talking to Dr. Leeds from the Leeds' institute in California. You may remember him as the guy that cloned Michael Keaton, twice, and then cloned one of the clones. I think that should answer your question...
October 28th, 2021 at 4:45 PM ^
Another Michael Keaton? But he’s history’s greatest monster!
October 28th, 2021 at 7:51 PM ^
Underrated movie.
October 28th, 2021 at 1:57 PM ^
John O'Neil, Reggie Smith, Dan Cappron, Bo Boroski and Teddy Valentine. A few came out of retirement just for this occasion.
October 28th, 2021 at 1:58 PM ^
What about Spartan Bob?
October 28th, 2021 at 2:07 PM ^
He wasn't a referee - just the hometown clock operator (which, after that game/season, the ncaa changed the rules so that the official time is kept by the refs and not the home clock). He might have still been at the games since that season.
October 28th, 2021 at 2:41 PM ^
Rumor has it that the B1G reached out to former NBA ref Tim Donaghy to see if he knows anything about reffing football. Apparently he's a big fan of Sparty.
More to come...
October 28th, 2021 at 2:59 PM ^
I heard they're bringing back that Sun Belt crew from the 2005 Alamo Bowl
October 28th, 2021 at 7:01 PM ^
There’s a rumor out there that Matt Shegos wants to try his hand at some football officiating and will be on hand as well.
October 28th, 2021 at 1:59 PM ^
I would bet we get O'Neil. Look for some phantom pass interference calls against us as well as no holding calls against MSU with Hutchinson getting tackled to the ground on every play.
October 28th, 2021 at 2:32 PM ^
I dislike that idiot as much as the next football fan but I have to admit the last game he did with us he wasnt bad at all.
Blind squirrel finding acorn perhaps but he wasnt bad.
October 28th, 2021 at 4:24 PM ^
He was just setting us up for the rug pull Saturday.
October 28th, 2021 at 4:28 PM ^
I agree. Maybe he's mellowing with age or decided he doesn't hate us anymore.
October 28th, 2021 at 5:06 PM ^
Seems like the female on his crew is not good. I agree that I was pleasantly surprised by his last outing.
October 28th, 2021 at 6:05 PM ^
I think there’s been some positive turnover in his crew this year. Maybe it’s not just him.
October 28th, 2021 at 3:38 PM ^
The ironic thing is that the brain trust at the rcmb seems to hate him too. It should make for a miserable game with bitching about the refs from both sides.
October 28th, 2021 at 4:48 PM ^
I’m not sure what we want. Our DBs do get a little handsy, but Sparty has lived off of no-calls for the last 15-20 years. I don’t know that having the game called a little more tightly might not be so bad.
October 28th, 2021 at 2:02 PM ^
The shittiest one. Could be O'Neill. Could be Satan. Either way they'll fuck us.
October 28th, 2021 at 2:14 PM ^
100% O'Neill. 100% calls go MSU's way.
October 28th, 2021 at 2:19 PM ^
The guy is so laughably bad at his job. Every goddamn game he makes egregious errors. Feel like he should've used whatever blackmail he has on the BIG to get a better job than referee.
October 28th, 2021 at 2:35 PM ^
Not to defend him, but I think his crew has been doing better since they replaced on of the members. I think the new member is a female.
October 28th, 2021 at 3:09 PM ^
there is something odd about your last sentence. can't figure out what it is.
October 29th, 2021 at 2:37 AM ^
Also username suggests he likes doe.
October 28th, 2021 at 2:07 PM ^
No idea, MSU just needs to know if they or the refs will supply the ropes to hold Aiden this week.
October 28th, 2021 at 2:08 PM ^
It really doesnt matter because this is what's going to happen because this is what always happens:
1. They wont make any offensive holding calls no matter how egregious for either team.
2. They will let the MSU DBs "get physical" with our receivers. In other words they wont call defensive PI on them. State knows this going in which is precisely why they "get physical" with our WRs.
3. They will however call at least one, probably two, defensive PI's against us. Both of which will cause Gus and whoever else in the booth to say "I dont know about that one. Maybe he got a little of his arm there....I dunno."
4. In end none of it matters - 27-17 Michigan.
October 28th, 2021 at 2:26 PM ^
1. They won't call any for Mich, but then when Mich converts on a big 3rd and long it'll get called back.
October 28th, 2021 at 4:04 PM ^
That’s essentially what happened in the Northwestern game. Good that Michigan got to see that as a tune up.
October 28th, 2021 at 2:08 PM ^
This question is really asking about John O'Neill, of course.
O'Neill, for some reason, tends to get assigned to the B1G's bigger games. He also tends to do 1-2 games for every conference team per season. He has already done one OSU game (vs Tulsa) and one PSU game (vs. Iowa) this year. He has also done one MSU game (vs Indiana) and two U-M games (vs. Western Michigan and vs. Wisconsin).
I honestly think he will be assigned to neither U-M/MSU or PSU/OSU. For that, we should all be grateful.
October 28th, 2021 at 2:19 PM ^
I vaguely recall him doing one of our games and being somewhat favorable in his calls...maybe im dreaming
October 28th, 2021 at 2:21 PM ^
Michigan has had O'Neill at least once this season (believe it was Wisconsin). There may have been another.
October 28th, 2021 at 2:32 PM ^
The O'Neill crew was actually pretty competent this time other than some bad spots of the ball (which went both ways). The Wisconsin game was better officiated than whatever crew we had for Nebraska. I think the Roundtable guys mentioned that the O'Neill crew got rid of their worst official from past years.
October 28th, 2021 at 2:10 PM ^
Pretty sure that information is kept from the public for gambling reasons.
I don't think it will be O"neill. They will get the OSU-PSU game. Before thise year the dog covered 65% of the time
The big ten will want that game close
October 28th, 2021 at 2:37 PM ^
The sharps/Vegas wise guys must know though, right?!
October 28th, 2021 at 2:16 PM ^
I have seen John O'Neill mentioned several times above, but he is one I would bet against. Michigan has already seen O'Neill twice so far this year. MSU had O'Neill in their last game vs Indiana. We had Jeff Servinski last week. I don't think you will see either of those two.
We have not had Jerry McGinn or Mark Kluczynski yet. MSU has not seen Ron Snodgrass yet. I am betting on one of those, most likely McGinn.
October 28th, 2021 at 2:23 PM ^
What was the other O'Neill game? I believe one was Wisconsin.
October 28th, 2021 at 2:25 PM ^
Western Michigan
October 28th, 2021 at 2:26 PM ^
Here is the list I've seen so far, and they all sound vaguely familiar:
Marvin "Majestic" Johnson
Gan Dilbert
Kirt Glbman
Some Rapper's Daughter
Former Governor John Ranchard
October 28th, 2021 at 2:31 PM ^
This could be an MgoBlog record. Btching about the officiating before its even announced who they are is impressive.
October 28th, 2021 at 3:07 PM ^
This made me laugh, well played
October 28th, 2021 at 4:28 PM ^
All we need to know is which crew favors JJ at QB.
October 28th, 2021 at 2:40 PM ^
It's funny people actually worry about this. O'neil is equally hated by MSU too.
October 28th, 2021 at 3:03 PM ^
Yeah I don't like O'Neill but not because I am worried about bias. I just want a consistent and cleanly called game.
October 29th, 2021 at 3:42 AM ^
That's a hot take Rashman.
October 28th, 2021 at 2:41 PM ^
Not sure, but I'm sure if there's a sparty fan among the possible options, he'll be leading the crew.
October 28th, 2021 at 3:00 PM ^
It's way past time they have full time refs. There's enough money for it. It's such a joke some weeks how bad it is
October 28th, 2021 at 5:44 PM ^
Could you imagine how much better football we would be watching if they actually expected the refs to work for NCAA full time (which they have more than enough money to do so? The NFL refs are obviously not perfect but it is amazing how many calls they get right. NCAA football can and should be the same way. It will never happen because the NCAA is too greedy to get out of their own way to make the experience for the players and fans better.
October 28th, 2021 at 3:02 PM ^
Dunno - but pretty sure RCMB and MgoBlog are gona be bitching about it for years..
October 28th, 2021 at 3:09 PM ^
Just win the game!
