Anthony Zettel's Season Over, Still Looking at 5 Schools

Submitted by MrWoodson on

He said he is looking at the five schools with a fresh set of eyes and is open to each option.

“I’ve got no favorites,” he said. “I’m looking for a good education, good football, the personality of the coaches and players, the campuses, I’m looking at everything.”

He added that he will also look at how each school fares this season, and examine rosters and other incoming recruits.

I think he is doing this the right way. Let's hope he looks at M as a whole and likes it best. Might not be the case but regardless he sounds like a smart kid.

The kid could be a great linebacker even though that isn't discussed as a position he'd play defensively.  It was a high school game but visually with my untrained eyes he read plays, moved sideline to sideline, and beat blocks better than any of our current linebackers.  He had like 15 tackles in less than 3 quarters.

If he was going to commit to UM, the time to do it would have been earlier in the season before we entered conference play. Considering the likely trajectory of the season from here on out, and all the controversy swirling around the staff as a result, he'll opt for the programs that seem more stable and accomplished. That ain't us.

My preseason prediction was 6-6, and I said after the IU game that we were going to struggle to win even one more game. I said the same thing last year, too. Am I a downer or just more realistic than some other people? To Woodson's point, it is true that Zettel has been consistent in saying he was going to wait until after the season, but that's part of my poorly-stated reasoning. The fact that an instate guy (who by most accounts grew up a Michigan fan and is being heavily pursued by us) is going to wait until our season is over before making a decision indicates to me that even before our season started he was skeptical about UM being the best choice for him.

Yes. You are correct. But that is all it means. Do not put additional words in his mouth. It does not mean he is "really" down to MSU and Iowa or even that either of those is the leader.

Based on what? Zettel has consistently said (even before the season began) that he was not going to make a decision early and was likely to wait until his season was over. He is doing exactly what he said he was going to do all along. He never planned to pick any school "earlier in the season before we entered conference play."

Our regular season ends in less than a month. By that time, the NCAA will have handed down a decision on penalties and Brandon will have nearly completed his assessment of the football program. My guess is that within two weeks of the end of the season, Brandon will issue a statement on whether RR will be back next year. Zettel might not even have completed his official visits by that time. I have no idea where he will play college ball, but I am pretty sure he will wait until at least that point before making a decision. He has absolutely no reason to make it earlier.

I disagree with you. I think he still wants to see how this program and this team handles adversity. he has attended more U of M games than games of the other programs (perhaps that is just due to geography, but I doubt it). Tom VH has always said that he is a Michigan lean. I believe Tom. Could Zettel's mind have changed? Sure, but you have to remember that this is a guy that is looking 4 or 5 years down the road. If he is looking for a great campus, a terrific education and a wonderful campus and football stadium/facilities, few can beat us.

I'm more concerned that with the forecast of snow on Friday that the gang from Dr. Phillips doesn't have warm enough clothing and they sit through a very cold game. Hopefully, the University will make sure they're warm.

He's a Michigan fan supposedly.  He might actually pick Michigan if he believes that Rodriguez will be gone soon and we'll hire a competent coach after that.

he might be the most important recruit left on the board.  in state at a position (maybe positionS) of need.  sammy watkins would be a huge get too, but given his lifetime fandom and location, he should be given the full court press.
