We probably high-fived or hugged at some point that night. I rode the bus down from North Campus after the semi-final and championship games, the 2nd time with an open Lowenbrau hiding in my coat pocket so they'd let me on the bus. Those were just unbelievable celebrations. I can't imagine how great this one was.

My niece is a freshman at UofM. She texted a photo of the celebration. That brought me back to 1989 and the basketball national championship.

P.S. ESPNU is showing the game again right now.

I thought that was Church and South U, then I saw Good Time Charley's and KNEW it was.  Nice!  Spent a lot of time across the street at the Jug myself.

EDIT: I think there was a TCF bank and a China Gate thereabouts back in my day.

Was there in 1997 as a freshman.  These scenes definitely take me back.  At that time I expected it.  Now, I take none of it for granted.  What a wonderful night.  Team 144 is special, indeed.  So many great stories this year.  Go Blue.

Great thing about the playoff schedule is that the students are back on campus. I was at home for the 89 Rose Bowl win, but we made up for it after the national championship in basketball. That was fun because we got to celebrate twice, once after the semifinal win (sort of a practice celebration) and again after the Finals.

I was fortunate to be at the rose bowl in 89 and in celebrated on south U with the whole school the following April. (The semifinal against Illinois was HasBash and my birthday so I’ll never forget it.) Damn, just thinking of those free throws by Rumeal still give me chills.
There was so much nonsense circling that team with Frieder but nothing like what team 144 had to deal with. I’m blown away by what they accomplished.

My daughter is a senior at U-M. She is 3-0 against Ohio State in her student-fan career, and she is going out as a senior with a national championship.

I need to send her to grad school at U-M. Any grad school.

This is one of the best videos I've ever watched. As others have noted, what a time to be a student. I'm jealous, I attended 2006-2010, (pretty much blacked out every game of the 2008 season, literally) but I still don't think I'd trade those years for anything. I have been thinking a lot about those years tonight, the heartbreak suffered with friends and roommates, with appreciation for they made tonight so worth it.

That was awesome to see.  Total props to the person who shot that.  I record my kid's violin performances but have learned that you have to sacrifice a small bit of enjoying the moment to preserve it.  I have chills.
