Am I the only one who doesn't get the Jordan Brand hype?

Am I the only one who doesn't get the Nike/Jordan gear hysteria? I just don't get why people wait in line for hours and spend hundreds of dollars for some t-shirts that don't even look much different than what we had before but buy it because there's a swoosh on it. IMO it's like the Apple people who camp out for a tablet. Neg away

Quality: better than Adidas Recruit reactions: better than Adidas Ability to avoid fucking with uniform design: so far, better than Adidas My opinion - and it is just a thought - is that we have mentally connected Adidas to the quality of Michigan football while wearing it. We need to purge that era. Also, they made some hideous uniforms.

Rightly or wrongly, Nike and Jordan are cool and have been for a long time. Recruits like it too.

Adidas is not cool but bought into Michigan.

The fans did not buy into Adidas and you're right, it probably symbolizes an era (kind of like Adidas and ND Weis I suppose).

Change needed to happen/

As an old Pistons' fan, I hate MJ.  But since the kids like his brand and Harbaugh has deemed it worthy, I love the MJ brand.  It won't bring big recruits on its own, but not having Nike may have driven away a couple of major recruits in the past.

If it provides Michigan more access to better recruits, I'm all for it.  That's all I really need to "get" about the brand.

Of the many charges you can level against Brandon, this is one of the weakest. Not many ADs would tear up an apparel contract midway through, especially when it was the richest in the country. Besides, given his negotiating "prowess," we'd have likely ended up with a lousy new deal if he had.

I'm happy with it being a big deal to the players, recruits and some of our fans. I may not understand why someone like WD is so excited about it, but that's OK. We all have our passions and I don't see a problem with it. Seeing so many people passionate about Michigan and Michigan football is a good thing. No qualifiers needed.

for those whose world revolves around having the correct brand of apparel producing their fanboy apparel. And now that we have attained the privilege of paying twice as much for items that run on the small side, I have to come to a decision as to whether or not to raid my retirement nest-egg to finance the purchase of the correct jersey...

It was, though I suspect only due to the size of your *cough* MGoScore.  I do recall you fawning over how well written my summary was.

However, I will gladely concede that your thread led off with a better meme.  Given that so many around here can't be bothered to read, the least amount of effort required to laugh is probably the preferrable course.

If we ever meet in person, I'll buy you a beer.

Why do you have to "get" the hype? It certainly doesn't affect you if other people spend their time and money in ways you would not. So why must you judge them or have an explanation for something that has nothing to do with you?

I know you can do whatever you want with your money, but don't you think most people's money could be put to better and more constructive use than buying some overpriced sports gear? Live and let live and all that, but sweet mercy it's a waste.

This is a fundamental problem with our economic system. We consume a myriad of unnecessary products, the purchase of which only add to our own and other people's suffering, while the makers of these products get severely wealthy off our fleecing. But hey, that's none of my business, which, along with it's all good, are two symbolic and asissine sayings that reflect our current culture.

As an employee in the manufacturing sector, I agree with you. Companies are always asking themselves "how can we sell more?" and never "should we sell more?" But that's an entire discussion about the economy's incentive structure. However, i'm not sure this is the place for that discussion.

So what's your solution Mr Economist? Should the government tell people what they can and cannot spend their money on? I agree lots of people spend money on shit they shouldn't. I also think sports apparel isn't near the top of that list.

the problem is "holier-than-thou" types like yourself proclaiming to know what's best for other people's money.

If they buy a bunch of "nice things" and those things make them happy and they live their lives in a better mood for it, who the hell are you to say that's "what's wrong." with it?

Maybe, dying with $1 to their name, but surrounded by Michigan Jordan gear is their choice on how to live life.  The only thing that matters is if it is right for him or her, and you have zero say in that, other than your opinion.  And opinions are like assholes . . . .

You're taking your OPINION and trying to use it as a factual basis for your comments.  Like . . . it is factual that this is a waste of money, or it's factual this is "what's wrong" . . . and that is just a stupid thing to do.
