Good. He was the best player in the country.
January 5th, 2021 at 8:11 PM ^
Ok. Glad they got it right.
January 6th, 2021 at 3:16 AM ^
Fuck off. NM?
January 5th, 2021 at 8:10 PM ^
For once it actually goes to the best player in the country. 105 receptions in a shortened season is insanity.
January 5th, 2021 at 8:11 PM ^
Lions will draft him.
January 5th, 2021 at 8:14 PM ^
Might be the only time I wouldn't be mad if they took a receiver. If only their defense wasn't basically 11 orange barrels.
January 7th, 2021 at 8:43 PM ^
Orange barrels actually slow people down ...
January 5th, 2021 at 8:32 PM ^
....and will then ruin his career!
January 6th, 2021 at 12:34 AM ^
Guaranteed.
January 5th, 2021 at 9:05 PM ^
Smith will be gone by 7.
January 5th, 2021 at 9:29 PM ^
Yeah Devonta will probably will go to Miami. However, ja'marr chase is a great prize if he is available at 7.
January 5th, 2021 at 11:24 PM ^
Lions have no WRs signed for 2021 except for Cephus and Geronimo Allison. If they franchise Golladay and get one of Devonta or Chase, that's a terrific group of skill players.
I wouldn't mind going defense, but I keep thinking Jarrad Davis and Teez Tabor.
January 6th, 2021 at 1:46 AM ^
I would love to go defense and I keep thinking Parsons or Rousseau.
January 5th, 2021 at 8:11 PM ^
Nice to see it go to a non QB for a change
Kid is ridiculously good
January 5th, 2021 at 8:18 PM ^
The 5-10 year run Alabama has had with WRs has to be the best ever. I remember when Michigan had that run of WRs from the late 90s-2007 that was great, but Alabama has had a 4 deep of Braylon Edwards-level WRs during the past decade that is just insane.
January 5th, 2021 at 8:33 PM ^
Bama's WR coming up:
2021:
Jacorey Brooks 5*
JoJo Earle 4*
Agiye Hall 4*
Christian Leary 4*
2020:
Thaiu Jones-Bell 4*
Javon Baker 4*
Traeshon Holden 4*
2019:
John Metchie 4*
Metchie is going to join the other Bama WRs since he's projected to be a 1st round pick of 2022 draft. Bama will have two WRs projected to get drafted at top 10-15. Bama is WRU
January 5th, 2021 at 8:43 PM ^
Funny how they used to be grind and pound and were RBU for a bit. Now they are letting it fly and are WRU. Whatever they do, Saban does it best.
January 5th, 2021 at 9:05 PM ^
Even when they did grind and pound, they still managed to get Amari Cooper, Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley get drafted at 1st round. Nick Saban knows how to identify and recruit stud WRs.
January 5th, 2021 at 9:19 PM ^
Devonta Smith was their #4 WR last year behind reigning Bilentinkoff winner Jeudy, 1st rd pick Ruggs, and future 1st round pick Waddle. All led by a 1st rd pick QB, a future 1st rd pick backup QB, and a future 1st rd running back. That was all on the same team.
Add that to their never ending stable of 4 and 5* OL.
Michigan hasn’t had a QB taken in the first round since Harbaugh.
A RB since Perry
And a WR since Braylon.
January 5th, 2021 at 9:21 PM ^
Don’t forget about a few years back when they had a backfield of Yeldon, Henry, Kamara, and Drake all at the same time.
This was almost immediately after Their first run of Coffee, Ingram, and Richardson.
And even though they are WR U now, they still have Najee who lit college on fire this season.
January 5th, 2021 at 9:43 PM ^
Or when they won in ‘17 and had Scarborough, Harris, Jacobs, and Najee
January 5th, 2021 at 10:19 PM ^
Actually Smith led them in rec yards and TD’s last year as well. Kid has been a monster..his teammates just got all the recognition.
January 5th, 2021 at 8:23 PM ^
Can't believe it took 30 years for another wide receiver to win the award. Wonder if being at Marshall was the only reason Randy Moss didn't win it?
January 5th, 2021 at 8:27 PM ^
Larry Fitzgerald should've won it over Jason White. Fitzgerald was insane at Pittsburgh and got robbed out of Heisman. I never thought I would see a WR win a Heisman in my lifetime after Fitzgerald's not winning it
January 5th, 2021 at 8:41 PM ^
Jason White was benched in his last 2 games of his Heisman season but still won largely because of early voting. Larry Fitzgerald the biggest Heisman snub of my lifetime.
January 5th, 2021 at 8:50 PM ^
Didn't White throw 3 interceptions in their bowl game that year too?!
January 5th, 2021 at 9:08 PM ^
And he went undrafted after his Heisman Trophy season. He was the 3rd winner who went undrafted. Charlie Ward decided to play in the NBA and Pete Dawkins went to serve in the military.
January 5th, 2021 at 9:28 PM ^
Yup, if I recall he went undrafted (was on my Titans for about 15 minutes) but did come back for his senior year and partnered with a pretty average RB named Adrian Peterson to take Oklahoma to the championship game (where USC slaughtered them) after winning the Heisman his junior year.
I believe he went undrafted Bc his knees were shot and he was like ~25. However, I may be off.
January 5th, 2021 at 9:49 PM ^
A couple Stanford RBs losing to Alabama RBs were a pretty big snub in my mind. Gerhart should have won it over Ingram, and C-Mac had one of the best seasons ever even though Henry also was deserving
January 5th, 2021 at 9:48 PM ^
I think Suh not winning in ‘09 is another big mistake
January 5th, 2021 at 8:28 PM ^
Not sure if /s but it wasn’t the only reason. A guy by the name of Woodson had something to do with it too.
January 5th, 2021 at 9:22 PM ^
Woodson? That guy that made the HoF cut today? THAT woodson?
January 5th, 2021 at 8:41 PM ^
Another reason was a guy named Charles Woodson.
January 5th, 2021 at 8:55 PM ^
Charles Woodson was the reason Moss didn’t win it
January 5th, 2021 at 8:24 PM ^
Please beat OSU
January 5th, 2021 at 8:25 PM ^
He had a great year and was the best player on the best team. Makes sense.
January 5th, 2021 at 8:36 PM ^
I'm glad to see the Heisman be something other than the award for best QB.
January 5th, 2021 at 8:45 PM ^
Deserved.
January 5th, 2021 at 8:52 PM ^
Any idea why they don't wait until all the games are over to vote on the Heisman? I'm guessing it's so that non-regular season games don't give an advantage to players who don't have post-season opportunities, but don't those games matter more?
January 5th, 2021 at 9:25 PM ^
Normally the trophy is given out in December - and voting can begin in November. This is later than ever.
January 5th, 2021 at 9:11 PM ^
I honestly hadn't heard his name before. I guess I have watched a LOT less football this year.
January 5th, 2021 at 9:27 PM ^
Randy Moss 2.0. An absolute beast.
January 5th, 2021 at 9:33 PM ^
I have yet to see another WR (or any position) as dominant as Randy Moss at the college level. He wasn’t just generational, he was once-in-a-lifetime.
Smith is damn good though.
January 5th, 2021 at 10:45 PM ^
That year was loaded at the top...Woodson, Moss, and Manning. Three of the greatest to ever to play the game of football and somehow Ryan Leaf was the #2 overall pick in the draft.
January 5th, 2021 at 9:31 PM ^
They definitely got that right.
Having 3 of the top 5 finishers in voting being from one school goes to show how broken college football has become.
January 5th, 2021 at 10:04 PM ^
Good for him, it's extremely difficult to pull off as a WR
January 5th, 2021 at 10:04 PM ^
They got it right this year
January 5th, 2021 at 10:35 PM ^
Congrats to him. Seems like a nice kid.
January 5th, 2021 at 11:12 PM ^
Great kid. He is from Louisiana and has a great supporting family. Best player in the country. Very smart for choosing to play for Saban.
