Afternoon Games Open Thread

When NC vs. GT is your best FOOTBALL game, it's hard to get excited. The afternoon looks like a better warm up to tonight's events.

"Boy you'd be hard pressed to find 10 really competitive college football match ups today. Uhh. The strong have loaded up with the weak."

There was a moment there were I honestly believe that Rees might just start a little game of catch with himself and the MSU band, but he actually finds someone semi-open and connects for the TD. If nothing else, the Irish will take the lead into the locker room in an otherwise ugly game.

both. Certainly I don't think anybody could argue that Ohio has played anybody decent yet, since Cal is still terrible. Their offense looks very tough to stop, but their defense seems to be vunerable to the big play at times.

I think it goes without saying that UM will have to improve between now and the end of the season, in order to knock them off.

Still, a shutout is a shutout. While I will not deny that they have a good offense, they've played 3 scrubs and a Cal team with a first year head coach.

Maybe that offense really is as good as it's looked so far, but I'll wait to see how they look once the competition stiffens before I deem them to be unstoppable. Wisconsin will be no pushover next week, especially with Melvin Gordon looking as good as he has. And if Northwestern plays up to its potential, that game will come down to the wire and could go either way.

The stat of the half might be the fact that MSU managed only 90 yards of offense in the first half of this game. They ran 31 plays, so that comes out to a cool 2.9 yards per snap, which is less than last week but more or less in line with their overall average thus far, as I recall.

And yet they are in the game.  MSU is going to play every game clsoe this year with that defense.....and that offense.  Kings is a good WR but can they get him the ball enough?  They will be playing a lot of games that finish within 3-5 points, no matter the opposition.

Connor Cook kinda reminds me of Jay Cutler in that he's better throwing on the run being chased by D-Linemen and hitting his checkdown than staying in the pocket and making throws.
