Does anyone know if they were going to have practice during break anyway? They won't be going hard all week in Orlando - there will be team outings.

Given a choice between practice in Ann Arbor and practice/fun in Orlando, it's no wonder they are expressing happiness on social media.

And college basketball teams take summer basketball tours to Europe, China, Australia or whatever, in the summer (for the sparty troll, that is NOT in-season), and everyone just showers the idea with praise and puppy dogs...Somehow a spring break in FL paid for by the university with....oh my Gerd...FOUR practices is stealing the very joy out of a college athlete's entire college experience.  I did just wake up in a Twilight Zone episode, yes???

In college, the track team would go to southern California every year for break. We spent half the time training and half the time at the beach or what not. It sucked if you COULDN'T go.

I still don't understand why this is still being argued about. Oh yeah, the SEC and ACC are whiners...

Hail Harbaugh and Go Blue!

Didn't msu get their shitwrecked playing on an abandoned tug boat a few years back.    No complaints about the ills of sea-sickeness or threat of pierats while the team took a break from their Coloring Book 500 level homework.

With all the whining about the demands on a student-athlete's time, Jake tweets (it's in the Det News article) that he likes having practices without having to worry about class.

Jake, thank you for giving some perspective to these conference leaders.

for so many people not agreeing with harbaugh they sure seem to like connecting themselves to him, one way or another.

This is just so brilliant. How can you argue with providing a nice trip for those who might not be able to afford one and giving the "student-athletes" more study time for finals? Checkmate, SEC/ACC a-holes. I can't wait to see the next innovation from Harbaugh Laboratories. He told a writer he had a couple of ideas percolating in his head as he was walking around Pebble Beach.

No school is being forced to do this. If you don't want to practice over spring break then don't practice, it's really that simple. But the NCAA cannot ban this because that would mean every other sport that participates in games, practices, or any athletic related activity over spring break would no longer be allowed to compete. That's golf, basketball, baseball, softball, swimming, etc. Hell the Michigan gymnastics team takes a team trip over spring break. I mean Jesus we devote an entire month of basketball to March Madness and no one says a word about the players missing class and spring break then. No one says a word when "summer break" gets cut short for fall camp or "winter break" is cut short for bowl prep. The NCAA has no problem scheduling bowl games on Christmas Eve and NYE/NYD forcing kids to miss "family time."

There is simply no way the NCAA can ban this. And the adults bitching about Harbaugh doing this ought to be ashamed of themselves.

Where the fuck is Jim Delaney?

When I was coaching club college rowing, every athlete paid out of their own pocket to go listen to me bark at them for 6 hours a day in Louisiana over spring break. And it was the best week of the year. The women's varsity team often hosted teams from ACC and SEC over their respective spring breaks. This is just ludicrous deflection from the scandals at Tennessee and Ole Miss.

...that's held during breaks.  So basketball games in Puerto Rico during Thanksgiving Break and baseball/softball games in Florida during Spring Break would go on.  But those summer basketball trips to Europe would have to go.  There may even be some type of restrictions place on summer workouts for football.  The SEC hates anything that can be done in public.  Bagmen operate in private and they're totally cool with that.

You're entitled to your opinion, we have ours.

I'm surprised the media hasn't really balanced commentary with some of the points mentioned on MGoBlog:  [1) they get 2 weeks off for finals instead of spring practice (this article first I've seen that has UM's side); 2) IMG is on spring break that week, Harbaugh will have compliance officer at chained to his ankle, 3) tons of other NCAA sports have games/practice during breaks)].  It's lazy reporting.

If you feel threatened and want to be territorial, fine.  You are entilted to that feeling.  But don't invoke "student-athlete of quality of life."   At least man up and own your fears.  Don't put out all these red herrings for people to debate.  Let's call a spade a spade.  Let the world know you feel threatened and you want to protect your backyard.

Your actions are speaking louder than your words.

Michigan don't give a fuck about recruiting territory. The SEC on the other hand is shaking in they boots. "They gonna take our shit."

Of course the ACC doesn't like it.  We just stole a FSU legacy away from the Noles and beat out Clemson for the #1 recruit in the country.  All of these conferences see Michigan as a threat to their programs' success and will do all they can to try and stop us.

other similar excursions?  For example, every major basketball program takes their team on some adventure overseas for weeks at a time, not to mention off campus training by baseball and other sports.  But of course this isn't about anything other than other programs piercing the natural talent advantage that comes with being located in the south.

Good God. The opinions of these athletic administrators don't deserve any merit whatsoever.

All that should matter is how the players feel about devoting some of their time off to football.

And my hunch is that nearly all of them will like the idea of a nice, free trip during which they'll still have time to enjoy themselves.

Or the satellite camps, I hope someone has the balls to sue them. And where the fuck is the Big 10 commissioner? He should be on TV calling out the SEC and ACC for their hypocrisy and idiocy. At least a statement of support would be nice.

Originally, I liked the idea of a spring break practice because: 1) studying football and regular classes at the same time is probably detrimental to the retention of both 2) Florida is frickin awesome and the kids only have 20 hours in that week taken up by practice, meaning that there time for an actual spring break that many of them couldn't otherwise afford But now I like it for a whole new reason: 3) butthurt fucktards. At this point, I'd support the entire B1G having spring break practices in SEC territory. Might as well invite the PAC too. ACC lol. There was no reason for them to weigh in at all.

Harbaugh/Michigan have gotten the attention of the entire ncaa. Now let's just hope this turns into success on the recruiting trail which I believe it will.

He must have been thinking so hard about the question "is our children learning" that he forgot to object to all of the mean, nasty requirements on Clemson's football program in the two weeks before the national championship and the winter break before the quarterfinals.
