49ers owner: "performance tonight was unacceptable

Submitted by michgoblue on
Apparently, the owner of the 49ers just tweeted that the team's performance tonight was "unacceptable" and apologized to fans.

Kind of an odd tweet for an owner. If it looks like the playoffs are not in the cards, given some of the bad blood, could the 49ers possibly fire Harbaugh before the end of the season? Doubtful, but that tweet probably won't sit well with him.

Couple this with what might be a big loss in 36 hours, and perhaps the stars are aligning?

Note: apologies for creating two threads in one hour relating to the cc. The first was more of an open thread to discuss and speculate, but I felt that this was thread-worthy on its own. If the mods feel differently, please delete, delete this one or consolidate both.

And he would not go to them either even if his wife does like NorCal. 1) tire fire 2) team may be moving who knows where anyways 3) tire fire 4) better jobs available 5) tire fire 6) did I say a tire fire even JH can't fix ? The only plus side is he would have CWood

The Bears would never hire Harbaugh, nor him go to the Bears, b/c the McCaskeys are complete blithering idiots and would never turn over the control to Harbaugh that he'd want.  They are penny-pinching morons who think b/c they have Halas genes in their blood or on their relatives' marriage certificates that they can run a football team well.  The degree of control Jimmy would want simply would never fly in Halas Hall and it's not ever going to happen there.

As a Bears fan I lament b/c having a Bo- and Ditka-trained coach would be pure Monsters of the Midway Madness.

But like the Redskins and Raiders, some teams will simply never really be able to achieve lasting greatness without ridding themselves of the owner.  I think it's why the Lions are now annually competitive, b/c Ford finally was excised from control a few years ago.

Not that Harbaugh is a bad coach, but because there is obvious dissention in the lockeroom and in the front office that isn't going to go away. SanFran's GM should cut the cord right now on Harbaugh and promote Greg Roman as interim coach. The change might propel them to make the playoffs, because right now it appears there is too much discontent and distractions.

Or Kaepernick was never really all he was cracked up to be in the first place?? I never understood where all the hype about him came from and how he was drafted so high after coming from a completely gimmicky college offense with bloated numbers. He fell into a team loaded with offensive talent in their prime and had a good year, that's about it. I don't know how he was then anointed the next coming just based on that. I don't think there are many NFL QB's that can point towards a head coach as their key to development. This is the NFL, head coaches have much more important stuff to work on then spending all day with their QB.

These SF front office clowns are delusional. Now I can understand why this isn't working, and it is not Jim's ego or intensity. These guys deserve the one way trip back to obscurity that they are ordering up for themselves.

It's not unlike the Jerry Jones phenomena where owners and GM's start to believe that because they bring in players, or own the team that they are responsible for the on-field product.

You can see how that's favored Jones since Jimmy Johnson departed.

This would be the York/Balke destiny going forward.

I understand NFL players not wanting to be treated like college kids, but Harbaugh is a frickin' winner. 3 straight conference title appearances and 1 Super Bowl appearance. Shouldn't that be enough to get everyone from the top down to shut up and buy in? If they were losing left and right, that'd be one thing. But they're not. They've been the model of consistency over the past 4 years.

If the SF players and management want Harbaugh gone, they're a bunch of spoiled brats who won't know how good they had it until he's gone. I'm a Bucs fan, and if I wasn't such a huge Michigan fan, I'd kill to have Harbaugh come to Tampa. So will the Giants, Jets, Bills, Raiders, Dolphins, and maybe the Falcons. That's not even including Michigan.

Perhaps SF would rather go back to the way things were before Harbaugh showed up: a decade of complete irrelevance and ineptitude. Regardless of wherever Harbaugh ends up next year, be it with us or some other NFL team, I will refuse to feel sorry for the 49ers when they fall apart and go 5-11.

For all the great stuff that Kaepernick does this loss is squarely on him. He seems to have plateued in his improvement and skill level. Last year they were able to skate by in the regular season on his arm and unleash his legs in the playoffs. Saving his legs this season may not be such a great idea if they don't ever get to use them.

Is gone from SF I could actually see Gruden taking that job if offered it. Young mobile QB, solid D, old vet RB w a young gun in waiting and a new stadium with loyal fans. This makes sense to me, unless he wants that Dallas job!

Are you nuts? Gruden would have to be certifiably insane to give up the career he's currently has for the next 30 yrs to go back to coaching. He's transcended coaching to a much, much better place that very select few could only imagine reaching. There is no going back now.

They replay Seattle in Seattle in 2 weeks.   The San Fran team that goes there and lays an egg should definitely fire their coach IMO.  But I'm biased!

we have as much of a chance at getting Jim Harbaugh as we do Nick Saban, Jim Tressel, or Bill Belicheck. People here need to move on.

False. Nick Saban is Alabama at this point. I think he'd only leave to coach MSU just to fuck with them. Jim Tressel makes no sense. Why on Earth would we hire him. And Bill Belicheck is one of the best NFL coaches out there; he has great players, a great front office, and doesn't have to deal with all the BS of college football. He's never leaving the Pats, let alone the NFL.

Harbaugh, on the other hand, isn't in a great position with the niners and was great in college. Much higher probability. Especially given Schlissel is an academic guy and Harbaugh coached at Stanford.
