3 things about our "fans" irked me today
actually 4.
1) Please don't come to the game just to sit there all day bitching about the coach, especially when its clear you really don't know much about football, coaching or strategy. Or for crying out loud you can't name more than 3 players on the field. Its nauseating to those of us who actually watch the games and pay attention to whats going on.
2) God damn it, quit selling your tickets to the opposing fans. If you don't want to see the game make an effort to find a Michigan fan who will be thrilled to see a game, or send them back to the ticket office I'm sure they can find a Michigan fan more than willing to pay to see Michigan play. Seeing so many opposing fans week after week in our stadium is getting pathetic.
3) Booing, really? And by the way that perceived fiasco at the end of the 1st half was smart football 101. Actually it was an advanced class, too bad our own supposed sophisticated and knowledgeable fan base did realize this. Did anyone really think that with 1 min left and Iowa with a timeout that RR would go for a 4th down at midfield and risk not getting it down by 14 with his defense recently getting shredded? No, so he ran some time off the clock and called timeout(SMART!) then ran a trick formation with his punt team and tried to draw Iowa offsides (SMART!!), when it didn't work he called timeout, and they punted (SMART!!!) Those same idiots booing would have been booing had Iowa stopped them on 4th down then launched a 50 yard TD throw to McNutt to go ahead 28-7. (STUPID FOOTBALL)
4) Leaving early. Dear God I can not believe that after all the late comebacks that Michigan has turned in under Carr and even Rodriguez that some of our fans were walking out in the 3rd quarter. You missed a spirited comeback, with what was left of a Michigan crowd willing them to make something happen, and they did.

I'm confident that you talk with recruits and their parents often so you would know that a home crowd booing it's team has no effect on a 17 year olds decision.

Our offense had trouble moving the ball in the first half. At some point, you have to take a chance and go for the points.
Punting there was not a good decision, and I stand by that.

Dumbass fans will slowly get sifted out until we get back to winning 8 or 9 games a season. In the meantime, they'll likely jump on the Sparty or Buckeye bandwagon so they can always feel like winners.
It bugs the shit out of me we're playing inconsistent football, and I'm not even angry with the staff like I was earlier in the season. I just want Michigan to be great again, regardless of who's coaching or playing. It happens tho. Great teams go through bad times. Nebraska needed a good 6/7 years to be good again. I don't think we'll have a problem, but we're going to see dumbass fans in the meantime. Like those who refuse to go through bad times and just talk shit up like they own the program. Others, like Sparty shits will talk smack until they're blue in the face because they haven't been relevant... ever until now.
In summary. Just endure. Don't be a dumbass. And remember to support the program.

This is ridiculously inaccurate and you know it. No one has ever said "We should settle for going 8-4." The correct argument (in my opinion, and people are more than welcome to disagree if they can back up their assertions regarding whether or not it is likely to happen) is that this team can go 8-4 this year, and is setup to win 10+ games after that for a very long time (seeing as how teams that return 20 starters from 8-4 teams tend to do okay).
If the fact that I would fight a child to defend Lloyd Carr's honor doesn't put us on the same page, what will?

As a student: The block M was terrible. Maybe from an aerial view it wasn't as bad, but from where I was, people had just taken pink shirts and then moved to other sections to sit with their friends. It looks disjointed and poorly executed.
Why did this happen? Well, last year the block M was very well executed. This is because it was put right in the middle, where the Juniors and some Seniors are. Now, it's in Soph and Freshman territory.
I understand that it was probably moved because the curvature of the stadium made the M look a bit strange, but that can be corrected with better shirt placement, and really looks better than a half-M half-blob.
Another reason it irks me: I'm currently right in the area where the block M was last year, and I really want to be a part of it, damn it!

A: If you want to be a part of the block M, just move there. It's the fucking student section, nobody cares where anyone sits.
B: Upperclassmen are moved to the "left", that is towards the <30 sections. Freshmen/sophomores are not in section 25-26. It is almost exclusively upperclassmen, so I don't know where you are getting your info from.
C: The Block M might have been weak yesterday for the following reasons:
- We are doing it all the time. The novelty is wearing off.
- It was pink. Nobody wants to wear pink. I sat just above the block M and many people just threw the pink shirt over their shoulder.
- Pink does not contrast well with maize.
So long story short: It's not much of a story.

If the 4th down chart has taught me anything, this was not "smart football." i also agree with the previous poster who said the fake punt wasn't fooling anyone. Not to say it isn't worth trying, as we had the timeout to burn and wouldn't need it anyway. However, iowa didn't even come out in a return formation; no one was deep.
To me, this is effectively the same move as punting against MSU late in the 4th quarter last week. Shows a lack of confidence in both the offense (to convert) and the defense (to hold) with around a minute left on the opposition 45 yard line. With our dynamic offense and struggling defense, we should be taking every opportunity to put points on the board, especially when trailing by 14 points. Again, reference the 4th down chart. That is go territory.
With that out of the way, I will agree with your assessment of M fans at present. I had a blast getting into it when we rallied, but most of the day I felt there must be no fan base in the nation with more malaise.

It's funny when Michigan was down 28-7, there was an Iowa guy sitting next to me and I said, "You watch...Michigan is going to make a heck of a comeback." They did. Unfortunately, the defense gave up another 10 points (Or was that the kicker....). And how could you cheer when Denard went down anyway? I still think he is the future of the team. Although, Forcier looked good but he hand his moments too.

listening to an 18 year old kid, yell at RR, that this is his last season. He also claimed we lost 10 scholarships due to practice gate, the basketball team will be starting 5 freshman, didn't know who #77 was, but had inside sources that if RR doesn't win 10 games he will be fired. All of this along with the professor, whom sits next to me, yelling about how stupid the kids are and what not. I seriously hated everyone around me today, I would have rather sat in a sea of Iowa fans. I can deal with yelling, I can deal with kids that are excited. I can't deal with idiots, and even worse idiots that spew shit from the mouth that they have no clue about.

1) The booing. You never, EVER boo your own team/players, no matter what. I had flashbacks to the Oregon game from a few years ago.
2) The DBs in the Stanford gear. Really? If you're not all in, go home.
3) Right before the second half began and the band(s) were playing "The Yellow and Blue", this DB in my section began yelling at Gibbons who was warming up/stretching right below our section. This "fan" belittled Gibbons and even swore at him. Gibbons looked up, smiled and kept stretching/warming-up. Needless to say, I was FURIOUS and very, very close to throwing down.
Things that made me happy:
1) Tate's comeback heroics revisited/the way he came over to the student section during the media timeout to pump us up. Confession: I started crying when he ran that TD in--I was just super overwhelmed by how far he's come. He's a different guy than he was at the UCONN game. He even sought out Adrian Clayborn after the game and gave him a giant hug/presumably congratulated him on a great game.
2) Kenny Demens. I can't wait to see what he accomplishes.
3) The fans who stayed til the end and stuck by our team. We're going to be okay. RR's my coach and this is still my team. I'm headed to Happy Valley in a couple weeks to watch Michigan give the Nittany Lions all we got.

The people within eyesight of me who were wearing the Stanford gear, and the people who were within earshot of me that cheered when Denard got hurt, and then booed when he walked off under his own power was rather sobering.
On all the Stanford gear : There seemed to be quite a bit of that yesterday. More of it too suggest it was just some random few hundred people to think of that "clever" idea all on their own. Was there some sort of, everybody wear Stanford gear pep rally that I never heard about?

early part of it. It was especially disappointing bc there was Iowa fans sticking around in our student section. Its hard not to get frustrated about turnovers and penalties, but my theory was that it was much more productive to give heck to the Iowa fans sitting near me. I'll give them credit, they took a lot of crap from me and took it well. To be honest I think they got off kind of light for sitting in the student section, but its all about doing it right. I can just imagine the types of things that would happen if there was a UM student sitting in the student section @ an MSU or OSU game.

It is a little ignorant to comment on leaving the game early. I mean personally I left because my little brother who is 13 was being annoyed by the dumbass fans that were siting in front of him bitching the whole game. So I said it was alright that we left, and we went to our car two blocks away and played catch listening to the stadium from there. I think your comments are all connected by one thing, and it's the fans that really have no business being at the game if they are going to only bash the team the entire game. I feel that if you're only going to bitch and moan while there and not support the team, then there is no reason for you to show up.
