Jake Butt at #96.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:32 AM ^
Su'a Cravens #5
He said in a paywalled article on Rivals that Michigan will be getting one of his five officials. I'm not holding my breath though.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:35 AM ^
I've talked with Su'a twice and to be honest I would be surprised if he didn't take that official. His interest in Michigan is high and seems legitimate, at least at this point in the process.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:50 AM ^
Nice! I've seen him a few times in person, being that I live in Murrieta, CA now. Not that I know much, but he looks like the real deal.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:52 AM ^
I'd have to go back and look at the quotes, but the different ways that Michigan planned on using him was one of the reasons he was so interested. He's incredibly talented in many different areas of the game.
February 8th, 2012 at 12:03 PM ^
Aqua, are we recruiting him for safety or linebacker? I know he's a safety, but I've also seen that he is being recruited some as a LB.
February 8th, 2012 at 12:14 PM ^
We are looking at him as a safety.
February 8th, 2012 at 12:19 PM ^
Tom Beaver says we offered him as a running back and that is something unique so far in his recruitment. Any insight into that?
February 8th, 2012 at 12:23 PM ^
USC offered him as a running back, so it's not THAT unique if Michigan indeed mentioned running back.
February 8th, 2012 at 1:22 PM ^
There goes our shot at being unique haha.
Apparently asking the almighty aquaman something that contradicts his previous statement earns me a flamebait tag from the loyal semen.
February 8th, 2012 at 2:34 PM ^
Craven and Thomas remind me a lot of eachother. Both play running back and safety, and it looks like both would excel at either.
February 8th, 2012 at 3:21 PM ^
Eh, yeah, they play the same positions. But Craven is a SS/LB hybrid, whereas Thomas is a FS/SS hybrid. I don't really see them as similar players other than playing the same position...ish.
February 8th, 2012 at 1:23 PM ^
The conversations I had with him totally revolved around what his role on the defense would be, so I'm not sure what to think of that assessment.
February 8th, 2012 at 1:29 PM ^
Thanks. I wasn't contradicting, just curious about different reports.
Also, looks like you've reached the level where you get your own TomVH following of loyalists that hate on anyone that asks a question disagreeing with your earlier comments.
Soooo congrats or be scared, I'm not sure which one.
February 8th, 2012 at 4:01 PM ^
Aquaman!
February 8th, 2012 at 11:58 AM ^
Can't say I'm ever going to be 100% confident about guys in the top ten unless they're from the area and grew up a Michigan fan. That's a really good sign and if we can get him on campus...I just feel like those guys are always the highest recruited and they're pulled in so many different directions. It's often times a crapshoot where they end up.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:34 AM ^
#5 Su'a Cravens
#26 Robert Foster
#34 Jaylin Smith
37 Dorian O'Daniel
#44 Mike Mcray
#48 Justin Davis
#96 Jake Butt
February 8th, 2012 at 11:38 AM ^
It was a quick list. I was going off the top of my head. I'm sure we will offer a lot more of these kids over the next few months as well.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:39 AM ^
#3 Laremy Tunsil, who has consistently said he wants to take one of his officials to Michigan. he's a heavy Florida lean, but still, and official visit is huge.
February 8th, 2012 at 1:41 PM ^
How condifent are you in landing Robert Nkemdiche? I heard GA is supposed to be a real player here. Somehow they can never keep their best player from leaving the state.
February 8th, 2012 at 2:25 PM ^
I know he has a lot of interest in the tide, and I know he has big pro aspirations. He's a smart kid though, and he knows that football is no guarantee. He hasn't decided on a major yet, so that'll play a part in all of this. I think he wants to stay home, that's my gut feeling. He LOVES the state of Georgia, and most Georgia fans are pretty confident he'll be a Dawg.
February 8th, 2012 at 1:34 PM ^
If you click on Kendall Fuller, he gets compared to the greatest DB in NCAA history, Charles Woodson. Except it says Woodson went to Green Bay Packers as his college.
I hope this causes outrage like when a player doesn't say "Michigan" on Monday Night Football.
February 8th, 2012 at 4:14 PM ^
I think anyone who looks at this list and questions why they take a kid like Khalid Hill should STFU. They obviously have an eye for talent.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:26 AM ^
2 commits in the Top 100 already, and a lot of others in there that have a lot of interest in Michigan.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:40 AM ^
So is Michigan your second favorite team? Or just like to keep the enemy close sort of thing?
Just curious - when fans of other programs often show up (besides Buckeye and Spartan trolls), I'm always interested in what keeps them posting.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:57 AM ^
I don't have a 2nd favorite team, and I frown on people who say they do. I respect the hell out of Michigan, their tradition, and their fans. As for this board, I like it, a lot of educated fans who like to talk about recruiting. What more can I ask for?
February 8th, 2012 at 12:00 PM ^
Just curious, what's your view on the over-recruiting stuff? Does it bug you? Is it a non-issue? Fair game? I'm just wondering what an educated Alabama fan thinks of it.
February 8th, 2012 at 12:05 PM ^
Someone asked that a couple of days ago. I can't stand over signing, and it puts my Uniersity in a bad light. That's the SEC however, it has become so cut throat that the actions of the coaches are becoming more and more business like. It's not even a college atmosphere anymore, they look at it from a professional aspect. That saddens me, and I really don't see it ending anytime soon.
February 8th, 2012 at 12:08 PM ^
I'm glad to hear that. My dad works in the panhandle of Florida so he has a lot of co-workers that went to Bama. He said none of them understand why over-signing is bad. I just hate to think that an entire fanbase could be so into winning at all costs.
February 8th, 2012 at 12:15 PM ^
I believe this picture may have been posted on here awhile back - but it was an interesting topic of discussion. I believe this certainly lends to the conversation of oversigning and how many of the schools highest officials especially in the SEC where it accounts for a large portion of revenue - "don't seem to care". Interesting when put into the context of a business - if you're Alabama (at least according to this picture - can't say I've done the calculation and am just assuming the graphic is correct) 11% of the schools' revenue is from football. Doesn't make the cut throat actions OK, but this seems to show another probable cause as to why they occur.
Here's the direct link if it's too small. My apologizes if this was posted on mgoblog and i'm not linking to a post here.

I'm actually very surprised that Michigan is below some of those schools. MSU? UConn? Arkansas State? We must be really raking it in through research endeavors and whatever else if the huge amount we make off of football is only 1% of revenue.

February 8th, 2012 at 1:59 PM ^
Quite the problem to have on your hands.
February 8th, 2012 at 12:26 PM ^
I have seen Auburn talk about how they run their program like a professional team. Landon Collins mom said Saban's pitch was come to Alabama and we'll get you to the NFL. Don't know whether he believes that is the difference that makes Alabama better or thought that is what the recruit wanted to hear.
February 8th, 2012 at 2:06 PM ^
I've heard that a growing number of SEC fans are concerned at the level of cutthroat competition within the league and its negative effect on recruiting, compliance, coaching salaries, etc.
When I think of SEC football and the direction it's headed, I'm reminded of the Johnny B. Goode scene in Back to the Future where at first the kids at the dance are really into McFly's performance, then they stop and stare in astonishment as he carries it overboard.
February 8th, 2012 at 3:02 PM ^
RDT-not sure if you've been asked this, but what's your opinion on Nick Saban as a coach and as a person? It seems like there are a lot of things you dislike about him.
February 8th, 2012 at 1:01 PM ^
I have a second favorite team - it is ALABAMA, because I graduated from there. However, I am a life long Michigan fan - so I cheer for both.
BTW, some good friends of mine paid an artist to draw an enormous mural of the Bear in their house, it looks almost exactly like your avatar.
February 8th, 2012 at 1:43 PM ^
RollDamnTide...my Dad is from Birmingham, Alabama. Loved the Tide. Met my Mom up in Michigan and relocated. Though I bleed blue and graduated from U of M, I've always had a little soft spot for Alabama, just because I respect their passion (Updyke aside...). And while we love to stereotype the "typical" 'Bama fan (like most would know), I've always found that for every nutjob there's 2 or 3 pretty well informed guys that just love college football and will talk about it for hours. That's my kind of deal.
You found a good board - this is by far one of the brightest, wittiest, sharpest college board out there. Keep visiting and posting - adds a little something. Hope it's a good game in Dallas!

Speaking of...where has Irish been lately? I haven't seen him.
February 8th, 2012 at 12:06 PM ^
The last I remember, he and a few people got into it about something ND-related, maybe Kiel, and then the downvoters ran him off the thread. I remember being drunk when I read it; other than that, I don't remember details.
February 8th, 2012 at 12:00 PM ^
he is probably enjoying the use of the proper English language and punctuation and lack of "PAAAWWWLLLL JUSSSST SED...." posts
February 8th, 2012 at 11:28 AM ^
Sweet, looks like Shane Morris is an elite blue chipper all across the board. At #16, with a good senior season he'll likely get a 5th star. It's always nice to have at least 1 or 2 elite players in the class (Pipkins, Kalis) and its even nicer to have one like Shane this early in the process.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:41 AM ^
He didn't put up great numbers in his HS season this year, but I think he had a pretty poor OLine and they ran the ball about 2:1. I believe his coach said they were planning on airing it out a little more during for senior year, and that less than 4000 passing yds would be a disappointment. Shane really made his name in the 7 on 7s, and at the Elite 11 camp last summer, where he went throw for throw with Gunner Kiel.
February 8th, 2012 at 12:02 PM ^
There's a big receiver transferring to his school too, right?
February 8th, 2012 at 12:37 PM ^
I can't recall the brothers are big recievers. One is a senior and one is a sophmore.
February 8th, 2012 at 12:46 PM ^
John Wangler's kids are transferring in.
February 8th, 2012 at 2:22 PM ^
I thought I read something about their former school trying to make it so they couldn't play this year, or something akin to that.
February 8th, 2012 at 11:29 AM ^
Does this put Shane in the 5-Star range for early Rivals rankings?
February 8th, 2012 at 11:31 AM ^
There are currently 11 5 stars on the Rivals100. He is listed in the article as five star potential.
