2013 OL Class - Yikes.

The odds of every single player being a non-contributor (note: I'm being euphemistic) was 1/64 or 1.5625%. But it happened. Ouch.

This isn't to rail on Hoke or Darrell Funk. But this is as clear a reason as any why our OL has limited depth and struggles against elite DLs (see FSU game).

And iirc, this was the #1 OL class in 2013. Many of us were excited because we thought/hoped it would develop into an elite OL down the road. This demonstrates the unpredictability in projecting OL success.

...but according to a source, the interior of our OL next season will be Bredeson at LG, Cole at C, and Onwenu at RG (provided those 3 stay healthy).

And don't be surprised if Nolan Ulizio is a starter at one of the tackle spots.

Cole will return to T in '17 I believe - not because he's got AA potential there but because we're gonna need him to.

I've been wanting Onwenu to play NT, but with that depth chart that won't be happening, not in '17 at least. But I believe he has AA potential on D & the chance to be a very high draft pick. Not a lot of OG are high picks.

But the outcomes of that class of OL recruits is so damning of not just the Hoke regime's coaching ability but also their judgment of character, of grit if you will. Fox we'll never know what he was about due to injury, but the rest of those guys just don't compete - signing their LOI was their super bowl seems like. Quitters galore in that group.man. It would be awesome if Kugler finally exerted his birthright and grabbed the C job. But not putting the house on that...

I did not fully understand your sentence there 96, so I can only reasonably attempt to reply:

I believe based upon Onwenu's height/weight ratio & his explosive first step (demonstrated in HS - you cannot be suggesting any of us seen enough of him in college to gauge his talent there) that he is more ideally physically suited to NT than on the OL.

I also know that 350+ lb NT with brute strength and explosiveness are often drafted in the top half of the first round, whereas OG almost never are.

That's it. I did say in '17 we need him on the OL, but I believe it's in the player's best interest - and potentially the team's too in the long run - that he play NT.

Cool?

Kyle Bosch - Probable Mental Health Issues, did not see eye to eye with Harbaugh. Started every game for WVU since transferring.
Pat Kugler - Still with team, in position battle(s)
David Dawson - Grad Transfer, Michigan Degree
Logan Tulley-Tillman - Bad Decision, Michigan Degree (if anything, this shows the opposite of quitting)
Chris Fox - Medical
Dan Samuelson - Just not good enough

Not sure I see the quitters galore you speak of. If anything this group has shown some perserverence. Sadly, just not at Michigan. The problems with Bosch happened under Brady Hoke. His transferring was the best thing for him, and is causing a huge hole in our 2017 OL (this kid started as a true Freshman, so he is talented). It's great that he has been able to rebound.

Pat Kugler has been stuck behind talent (NFL Center Glasgow/Future NFL OL Cole) while he molded his body for a chance at playing guard. RS and two years of learning is the normal pace of an OL. He was squarely in the 2 deep this season, playing in 5 games this year, starting one. And will fight for playing time next year. Would not surprise me if he took over for Cole at center. Cole could be used at either Tackle spot. And Cole's performance at Center was uninspiring this season.

Dawson, is what it is. Got degree. Moving on. Success story imo. Not sure why we would knock the kid when we support others like Morris, Rawls, etc. moving on to have success elsewhere.

LTT was not pretty. But if Jim Harbaugh can be proud of the young man, we can be.

Samuelson just wasn't a good enough recruit to come to Michigan. Hoke reached down the list last minute after pushing away better kids. Speaks more poorly of Hoke than Samuelson. Can't fault the kid for taking a chance on himself. Now he is at EMU.

Apparently people are now thinking Bredeson will wind up at RT, which feels like a waste of talent to me, but nevertheless, if our line is, from left to right, ???, Kugler, Cole, Onwenu, Bredeson, that FEELS better than our O line from 2016. Especially if Newsome comes back. The question is obviously Left Tackle, which could become a serious issue.

I agree, you can't assign blame. Kulger, Bosch, LTT, and Fox were all top prospects. Each didn't pan out for different reasons. Kulger is still solid and will be a starting guard most likely next year. The medical, discipline, and other issues could not have been predicted. At least we had solid prospects in the class. That's better than no decent OL commits a few years earlier.
