Our week as Buckeye fans
We all have to be 100% committed to Ohio State winning this week. Most of you know why- We then control our own destiny as far as winning the big ten championship. There is also a tiny chance we could make the playoff, and it means Sparty loses, which is nice. In preparation for being a Bucks fan until Saturday, I have taken the following steps. Please tell me what I've missed. 1. Cut the sleeves off 9 t-shirts, one for each day of the week. 2. Stopped showering. It is too cold to go outside. 3. Practiced for hours spelling out O-I-H-O. Thanks guys, GO BUCKS!

never Ohio State winning...
November 16th, 2015 at 6:51 PM ^
I'm rooting for Michigan State to lose, not Ohio State to win.
November 18th, 2015 at 3:14 PM ^
If the Buckeyes earn it on the field, that is handling their business. However, I always want the teams in my home State to beat teams in other States, especially a team that thinks it can look down on my home State. I do not know if the Buckeyes have ever lost to Michigan teams back-to-back, but it is time for that to happen.

That scene always bugged me, it's so unrealistic. I mean, Hines Ward, outrunning anybody? Come on, nobody would believe that.
November 16th, 2015 at 1:56 PM ^
Outrunning people, no. Blindsiding an unsuspecting DB and then grinning later, yes.
November 18th, 2015 at 1:57 PM ^
But Hines Ward was a competitor who just wanted to win. /s
I want to upvote your post than I'm able.

I'm not sure why people have a problem rooting for OSU. We are Michigan fans and an OSU win is absolutely critical for us to maintain a shot at the Big Ten title game. Rooting for OSU over MSU is rooting for Michigan.
November 15th, 2015 at 9:50 PM ^
This ^^^^^^^^^^^^
I vary between which one of them I pull for. Whenever one of them beats us in a heartbreakingly close fashion (2015 MSU, 2013 OSU) I definitely root for them to lose against the other. This year there is the added motivation of a Big Ten Championship.
November 15th, 2015 at 10:13 PM ^
I know its anathema to some but... I would much rather OSU win another championship than MSU. I perosnally know zero buckeyes and but tons of spartans. I can live with the buckeyes winning again, they already did last year so another cant be too bad. I might have to move out of Michigan if STAEE pulls this out.
November 15th, 2015 at 10:18 PM ^
Maybe if the Crimson Tide or Clemson decides to take a nap for four hours. Otherwise they will insta-die in the playoff.
November 15th, 2015 at 11:24 PM ^
That would be incredibly amusing to watch, I dont know if I could take the smugness about making the playoffs before Michigan though
November 16th, 2015 at 8:21 PM ^
OSU limped into the playoff last year and got hot. Nobody gave them a chance then.
You never know. Get in and you got a chance.
November 17th, 2015 at 12:15 PM ^
They limped in by beating Wisconsin 59-0 in the conf title game.
November 16th, 2015 at 12:40 AM ^
OSU is the greater rivalry, but from my perspective, it is a rivalry of (football) equals. The natural order of things is for MSU to be a lesser team. Even without the B1G championship and remote playoff possibility, I'd be more upset with MSU winning and again on top of the B1G.

A world where MSU is perenially at the level of MSU circa 2000 is a world where the stars have aligned well and the spheres of the heavens still orbit in orderly fashion.
A world where OSU is perenially at the level of OSU circa 2011 is a world where the lighter elements have become heavy and the heavier lighter.
Or, abandoning the cosmological comparisons: everything's just as it should be if MSU is perpetually mediocre, but something's wrong if OSU is.
It's not nearly as much fun to hate Ohio State if Ohio State becomes Minnesota.
November 16th, 2015 at 8:18 PM ^
I hate their guts. Their uniforms. Their stinking tin-horn band. Stupid Script Ohio that our band taught them. Those old fat guys that wear face paint and buckeye necklaces. Idiot fans. Loudmouth players. Egotistical, cheating players and program.
But in this case, though I won't root for OSU to win, I will root like hell for MSU to LOSE. There's a subtle difference but it keeps me from meltdown.
November 17th, 2015 at 8:12 AM ^
I have no problem rooting for OSU to win. Because I know I'm just using them. The same way you would hook up with a drunk Ohio State intern that you never had any intention of calling.
Not that I ever did a thing like that.
It was an MSU intern.
November 17th, 2015 at 9:35 AM ^
Pretty sure that's illegal.
MSU fans don't have the mental capacity to consent when sober, let alone drunk.

There's only one problem with that scenario., it's hurts our already slim chances of making the playoff. If OSU loses, we're playing a lower ranked team and we would need everything possible to sneak into the playoffs as is anyway.
November 15th, 2015 at 11:01 PM ^
is the playoffs more important than the Rose Bowl?
The playoffs are for all those other loser conferences who don't get to go to Pasadena.
November 15th, 2015 at 11:19 PM ^
Y'know, this is why I didn't want a playoff in the first place. No team with two losses should be dreaming up scenarios in which they win the national championship.
November 15th, 2015 at 11:54 PM ^
2007 already had this happen with just two teams so whatever.
November 15th, 2015 at 10:37 PM ^
Eh, I wouldn't call this better.
The Game's hype would be significantly diminished as it would be very likely neither of us could go to the championship.
Best Case Scenario: OSU beats MSU, UM beats OSU, PSU beats MSU

Maybe because I haven't lived in Michigan for a long time- but I don't bear the animosity toward MSU that many seem to here. Have met only a few Sparties aborad, and they were actually sane and reasonably intelligent beings. None were obnoxious, even in their fandom.
Once Harbaugh has righted the ship, and/or Dantonio is gone, more than likely MSU will return to being only an occaisional pest. OSU, OTTOH, is the greater [athletic]* rival- on the field, and especially in recruiting- over a much larger area and period of time.
*while both might consider Michigan their athletic AND their institutional rival (and maybe we should throw Illinois in there too!), Michigan clearly considers Ohio State and MSU as their athletic rivals; while Northwestern as the closest thing to an institutional (or more accurately, their academic rival.
[Now if we were in the Pac12, then Cal and UCLA, maybe Stanford would certainly be our rivals. But then if worms had machine guns...]

November 16th, 2015 at 11:23 AM ^
...given the way Michigan vs MSU played out. I'm 100% on board with any scenario that involves Sparty tears.
November 16th, 2015 at 11:28 AM ^
I have no problem with rooting for Ohio State. I normally do not root for or against the Buckeyes, although I would prefer to see them win every game leading up to the Michigan game. I know that view differs from most. As for Michigan State, I normally don’t care if it wins or loses. I root for whatever helps the Wolverines’ championship hopes.

In order of importance:
- Michigan over Penn State
- Ohio State over Michigan State
- Iowa over Purdon't
- Upsets elsewhere in the top-15

We don't have to root for OSU. No one is talking about the following scenario, which I don't believe is total impossible.
MSU over OSU
UM over PSU
UM over OSU
PSU over MSU
If I am not mistaken, that still gives us the title right? Stranger things have happened.

There is a long and very complex formula I came up with to figure out if it was ok to cheer for ohio state in these situations. Unfortunately, I don't have that formula in front of me.
Butt the end result was its ok.

I can't see MSU beating OSU, considering that Connor Cook's right arm is dangling loosely from his body.
