WTKA Roundtable 10/25/2018: The Truth Is Too Loud Comment Count

Seth October 26th, 2018 at 8:44 AM

Things discussed:

  • “I think we should put Paul Bunyan in a wood chipper, and if we lose next year hand them back the sawdust.”
  • Lewerke was definitely injured; no idea why the story isn’t straight
  • I think he’s on Urban Meyer’s meds
  • Like most of the team he’s not on the same page
  • So many opportunities to pull away early.
  • Kwity and Uche are recreating Gary in the aggregate
  • Five or six opportunities to pull on zone read plays where MSU had nobody for it
  • State’s run defense threw in the towel in the 4th
  • Don’t like the can’t hit the QB in the knee rule
  • March of the Rockettes: point was to show up late and make Michigan leave the field
  • What was Harbaugh’s role in this? Saying the truth too loud? Delany’s statement is exactly what Harbaugh said, and the Big Ten wouldn’t have looked at it if he hadn’t said something, so why the reprimand?
  • How much more effort did they put into this than Max Bullough, the captain of the team, getting suspended for the Rose Bowl? Is there anything more pathetic than the MSU beat? Just a bunch of shameless bootlickers
  • Mark Dantonio is the Elmer Gantry of NCAA football.
  • Rondale Moore is the Truth.
  • Ohio State: Meyer doesn’t know how to run without a running quarterback
  • Marcus Ray: would he call Michigan the best team in the Big Ten if they had losses to Northwestern, Eastern Michigan, and Missouri?

You can catch the entire episode on Michigan Insider's podcast stream on Podbean.

Question: do other programs have characters like Marcus Ray (and Braylon Edwards)?  Guys who played, were champions, but now make a living trashing and disrespecting the program? I ask because I don’t really spend any time reading/listening to commentary about other program except from the national pundits.

It’s so odd to me.  There are always going to be homers, and being critical when criticizism is warranted is fair.  But, Marcus seems to go out of his way to shit on Michigan.

I am late to the 'hate marcus ray' bandwagon.  But hell, i think i am about to jump on it.  He is making a complete ass of himself to possibly the only group of people who still love him, Wolverine fans.

The more I experience the ridiculousness of the B1G, the more I'm convinced we don't need to be a part of it.

Maybe I’m wrong, but that penalty on Jarvis where had kemp down, to me it looked like he was jabbing him in the throat or mouth, can anyone get a clip of it???

Wifey will thank you, since that Burt Lancaster is what they called a dreamboat back in the day, in his Oscar-winning performance of 1960. Shirley Jones is quite the vixen too, and grabbed an Oscar herself. Just never mind Jean Simmons though. No one can touch her.

To be clear, Joe Klatt was hardest on the coaching staff regarding Shea. He said that QBs like Shea have to rely on a bit of the "gamer" and "gunslinger" mentality when outside the pocket. He faulted Harbaugh for reining him in too much.

Finally figured out that when I think I'm hearing the unlikely name "Ralph [properly pronounced almost "Rafe"] Vaughn Williams" on MSU's defensive line, it's actually a more reasonable Raquan Williams.

Not sure why I like MSU's QBs... I like Lewerke and Hoke recruited him...  This Lombardi kid didn't look so bad as a redshirt freshman.  Maybe because they seem to be the anti-prick to Dantonio, for a cognitive mental balance.

But not to disclose Lewerke hurt... maybe DAntini is thinking he doesnt want the perception to be the season is over, thus a losing record, thus the entire perception of program tanking and losing recruits etc... so he may think to hold the line and just try to win with a hurt Lewerke with Lombardi not ready yet.  Bizarre.

Much as I dislike MSU, it's pretty impressive how efficient their QB assembly line has been, they always seem to have one front line guy with a good heir apparent somewhere.  it may take time for them to figure out who that guy is: liking Maxwell over Cook, Lewerke taking time to be ready, etc.  But there's a pretty good line from Kork Coupons- Cook - Lewerke - and it seems like Lombardi has promise.

Benefits of having a stable program, I think, I know Spartan fans have just about had it with Bollman and Warner, but the transition will have a cost.

Was the DPJ pose after the long TD catch (featured photo in the "Product of the Programs" post) a nod to the Paul Bunyan Trophy??  Apologies if this has already been confirmed or refuted--just noticed the similarities and was curious.

New to these.  What is the difference between the MgoPodcast, MgoRadio and WTKA Roundtable?  All of them show up on my Podcast feed and it seems like all feature Brian and someone else.  Curious to know the difference.

MGoPodcast is an immediate reaction to the previous game and posted on Mondays.  Also includes a summation of the weeks games in the B1G.  It's with Brian, Dave, recently Seth, and then they bring in Jamie Mac for the around the B1G segment.

WTKA roundtable is a weekly radio segment on WTKA and is basically Brian, Sam, Ira, and a couple of other AA sports personalities in Craig Ross and Ed Feng.

MGoRadio is a Friday night show in which Brian, Seth, and a special guest go over the game post-UFR and give a more detailed preview as well as a gimmicky top five segment with the special guest that tends to be a lot of fun.

That help?

The first take on the recording was devoutly stupid...

says wants to grind Bunyan to sawdust and "if we lose" next year, to hand it back to MSU..

what a stupid take....    we will beat them next year at home...

then... this guy says he doesnt want to play MSU anymore.. what?  we have the upper hand now... no better way to beat them down than to beat them each year.

stupid take this morning...

Agree it was stupid, but not devoutly stupid. I have no religious beliefs.

I admit I don't care if we ever play MSU again.

I see no value added to the institution.

Contrary beliefs, devout or other, aren't stupid.

The problem with Ray is that his sole motivation is self-promotion.  If it doesn't feed his massive ego (or rapidly expanding face), he doesn't care to consider it.  Complete douchebag.

Marcus Ray is intellegent, quick witted, and understands a great deal about football. I used to enjoy his early work on WTKA.

I think that he might even have been a great addition to the Michigan game broadcast at one time.

His current behavior has a frequent anti UM slant.  No idea why, but it seems his bias is often trumping his football acumen.  It seems to me that he wants M to be bad because he thinks it vindicates him.

I have bitched about him on here a few times.

At this point I feel bad for the guy.
