Tavierre Dunlap Has Committed to Michigan Comment Count

Seth September 13th, 2020 at 8:31 AM

That happened quickly (and when none of us were around). Michigan has finally secured one of their two top running back targets. This one is a recent top-250 back to 24/7 and plays for a major Texas program.

Thunder acquired, lightning TBD. And I do mean thunder. Dunlap's highlight runs are all long touchdowns but sometimes there's a child or three in the way before they begin. A more informative update than "Hassan Haskins but fast" will be Monday.

This is shockingly disappointing, not the commit.....the post.  I said in regards to the Kickstarter, I have a ton of respect for you Seth.  But the coverage of recruiting has so fallen off at this site that it really has become a non entity for me compared to other sources.  You used to be the only Michigan source for me, now you are a distant after thought.

Wow! Sorry the free content isn’t up to your standards. (Jk)

I for one didn’t even know anything about the kid until it was a message post yesterday. I count on this site for this type of news, and I’m glad it is here. Admittedly, I don’t follow every crystal ball or Gut” feeling.

Distant afterthought? I think your judgment and expectations are way off course. Where else can you get consistent, quality, and in-depth coverage from such a highly respected Michigan writing team? (Or any team for that matter). All for free btw.

Let's also remember that there is no big ten football and very little report-worthy news right now. High school football and recruiting in general is a shadow of its usual self. I guarantee you will get a high quality recruiting profile on Monday and it will be better than you can get anywhere else.

With the season shut down and having just finished HTTV, I personally am glad Brian, Seth, and Ace can downshift during this insane time and still provide excellent content while taking care of themselves and their families. I know I wouldn't want to write a UFR while having my entire family in the house 24/7. We should be grateful that we get to feast on the meager bones of football news and can be part of a Michigan community that holds a higher standard of respect for one another than the rest of the world out there. If you can't, we will all be glad to have you on another site.

Stay well and Go Blue!

dude, seth is gifted and he's not an indentured servant.  his saturday nights and sundays might not actually revolve around 24/7 sports reporting.  stuff will be up on monday.   he posted the hudl tape here and that will give you some chills up your leg - watch the kid run over some poor safety trying to fill the hole at about the 1:12 mark.  d'oh!

So, y’all really think the detailed 2,500 word Hello posts with the background and the scouting and the analysis that go up right after a commitment are written in the six minutes between the announcement and the post?

I’m reminded of the episode of the Simpsons where they have to tell Homer that they don’t air Itchy & Scratchy live, as it “places a terrible strain on the animators’ wrists.”

Seth is carrying all the water for this site now. Ace is busy being outraged on twitter.  I think Brian is busy being A dad with 2 young kids during COVID, which many of us can understand.

I wish they would hire an intern to cover recruiting. Many Michigan students would be head over heels for this writing opportunity.

I was going to post something similar.

It is disappointing to not have at least the “Player X has committed to Michigan” within an hour or two of it happening.  We used to have a Full hello post in that timeframe — even if it was a surprise commit — (Ace should have gotten hazard pay during the great Hoke weekend of 8 commits.).  Dunlap clearly wasn’t a surprise even if the timing was.

I realize that Brian and Seth have family and adult responsibilities that they didn’t “back in the day” and Ace - who used to be the grinder on this type of stuff - hasn’t been the same since the onset of his health issues.

Therefore the idea is to find a youngster or two (even if they are unpaid interns) and give them the shot to do some of this stuff.  Heck Brian can even train them a bit in how to do UFRs and then force them to do the OSU and Bowl games most seasons.

I still love this place.  I just want to find a way to keep the quality and timeliness up that doesn’t require you and/or Brian to go back to how you lived in your Twenties.

I initially didn't see the Haskins comparison. I rewatched 2019 ND game yesterday (watching everyone else play was depressing).

Haskins is the PERFECT comp.

Nothing like De'Veon Smith, which is what I thought he was before watching any film. But Haskins is spot on, upright but will lower the boom, more speed than you realize, stiff arm.

We HAVE to get Donovan Edwards though. His versatility would allow these two to play at the same time.

Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram 1-2 punch.

Impressive. 10 yds/ carry in Texas wow. Would not be shocked if he’s better than any back on the team. You can’t have too many rb though; Donovan come on down. Sharing the back field with another threat only extends your career.

recruiting and getting talent from Texas is always encouraging, because there is:

a) so much talent in TX, and

b) so many other top football programs that have (years, decades) established ties to schools & coaches in TX

His Hudl tape is explosive.  Less thunder more like shake and burst.  Not a wiggle guy like Evans but definitely fast.  Don’t see a recent comp in either Haskins or Higgins.  Ricky Powers with more top-end speed is my historical comp.
