Report: Michigan Reaching Out To Bates, Manuel
Manuel, Bates
Per Coaching Search's Pete Roussel:
A source has informed CoachingSearch.com that Michigan has gauged the interest of UConn director of athletics Warde Manuel and Boston College athletic director Brad Bates about their interest in the same position at Michigan.
UPDATE: John U Bacon says nope.
FYI, my proverbial "well placed sources" tell me the reports of UM starting a search for a new AD (Bates, Manual, etc.) are NOT true. FWIW.

Sorry for getting anyone's hopes up.

Can they start Tuesday?

He can spend some time down in AZ this winter refining his personal "brand" while he looks for work.
September 29th, 2014 at 5:46 PM ^
Just keep him the hell out of NM. I am sure that he would be a pea in the same pod as our governess. One's enough.
September 29th, 2014 at 6:22 PM ^
I read a post of yours earlier where you used that "BrandOn" bullshit. I see you've done it again.
I don't like the guy either, but I thik that's a pretty stupid schtick.
You might be the first poster that I neg on sight.
September 29th, 2014 at 7:22 PM ^
"BrandOn" I believe belongs to Wolverine Devotee. I'm just using it. So that little branding exercise actually worked. I promise to pay WD MGoRoyalties.
Also, I can't help but comment on the irony of you calling out my "stupid shtick" while misspelling the word 'think.'
September 30th, 2014 at 7:47 AM ^
Irony does not mean what you think it means. Misspelling the word think was an accident. Repeatedly and intentionally misspelling our AD's last name as BrandOn is a gimmick.
The worst part about your schtick then, is that it's not even original. That's unfortunate.
Now be a good boy and pay WD his royalties.

If true, thanks for stepping down Dave! Let's celebrate!
September 29th, 2014 at 5:44 PM ^
Can they start now? Not sure how credible the source, but I don't care. This is the greatest post I've seen since the start of the football season hype died
September 29th, 2014 at 5:38 PM ^
That is not the kitten in the Michigan cup. I demand the kitten in the Michigan cup.
Can somebody go down to Bolivia and find that for me?

The feeling of hope returns.
September 29th, 2014 at 5:22 PM ^
Please let this all play out by Saturday.
September 29th, 2014 at 5:45 PM ^
By "all this" you're referring to the part that ends with them hiring Jim Harbaugh?
September 29th, 2014 at 7:01 PM ^
"All this"..
Manuel/Bates hired, immediately fly to Michigan, David given 138 large pizza boxes for his personal effects
M/B hires Harbaugh, Harbaugh quits San Fran.
Harbaugh flies in, free tacos for everyone... Dantonio and Meyer steal tacos get arrested.
September 29th, 2014 at 5:22 PM ^
Both these guys are the real deal with solid track records. And....I think Steve Ross would like both of them.
September 29th, 2014 at 5:27 PM ^
This is the site that from what I saw first reported the Nuss hire. I think they have an idea whats going on. And Gregg Henson speculated that Brandon could be working on a resignation because he has not been heard from since Saturday.

Does this mean Gregg Henson might have more credibility than Ace Williams?
September 29th, 2014 at 5:58 PM ^
No way. Ace has the inside scoop on how John Harbaugh will be the next head coach. /s

(all but) dead. . . There was no way this could continue much longer. The weight of public opinion, the collapse of the goose that laid the golden egg. . .
There are almost assuredly better--at least saner--times ahead.

but I think that is him famously vandalizing a cease-and-desist order from Subway after he had MicroSoft-Windowed one of their sub recipes.
September 29th, 2014 at 5:25 PM ^
How much of the decision will be based in their relationships with the harbaughs and miles?
September 29th, 2014 at 6:10 PM ^
The person who would be able to convince John Harbaugh to come to Michigan would probably be Mattison. Being that they worked together in Baltimore, I'm sure that he could be the deciding factor. Either way Lloyd Carr was the one who didn't really care for Les Miles and I don't really think we could get either three of those guys. It would be nice but they haven't really showed any interest to returning to college.
September 29th, 2014 at 5:25 PM ^
Did the source know if they had expressed any interest?

It's still an elite job. Either one would walk here for the job, fergodsakes!

PREPARE THE MUPPETS
I'll take whichever guy is less like Dave Brandon.
September 29th, 2014 at 5:32 PM ^
So...both of them.

just fits. It just fits.
September 29th, 2014 at 5:29 PM ^
Who would be reaching out to them? Would it be Schlissel? Someone on the board of regents?
September 29th, 2014 at 5:29 PM ^
Turns out they both have Michigan ties. I was worried there for a second that we might branch out a little bit.
September 29th, 2014 at 6:04 PM ^
Warde is much like Jim Harbaugh. Regardless of his connection he's one of the best options to takeover. It just so happens that he has ties to Michigan. As far as Bates goes, that one is a little more the Michigan connection. He's qualified but probably not on a top 5 list without the connection. Warde is a top 5 candidate regardless.
September 29th, 2014 at 6:18 PM ^
Agreed 100%
September 29th, 2014 at 5:30 PM ^
Either one works. We can have a welcoming committee ready by 7:00 PM EST.
