Ja'Den McBurrows Has Committed To Michigan Comment Count

Brian April 24th, 2020 at 1:18 PM

Michigan picks up a Florida corner:

Burrows reported a flood of top-end offers at the end of January, when he was still unranked by 247. He's current an 85 by their reckoning, which is low three-star territory. Rivals has him a high three-star. Defensive recruiting isn't looking so hot right now: at #580, McBurrows is the highest-rated of Michigan's four defensive commits.

Hello post Monday; there is no content after the jump.

This is the 3rd of 4 defensive commits that I've literally never heard of before they committed.

I sure hope all you guys saying "if they're not good enough when signing day comes along, they won't be in the class" are right because this might be the most drastic drop off in recruiting I've ever seen

So he got non-committal offers from Alabama *and* Georgia *and* LSU *and* Florida State *and* Miami *and* Ohio State* *and* Penn State *and* Tennessee *and* Utah?

If it was one or two big programs, OK...but that's a murder's row.

Sometimes the easiest explanation is, "Recruiting sites are sometimes out of date and/or miss kids who aren't athletic freaks or a QB."

Go look at Jaylen Kelly Powell and Jeremy Jackson's "offer lists" if you think they are the be all end all.

The kid plays for a prominent program and has been scouted. offer lists don't mean shit. His ranking does. And it's a generic 3 star. Rich Rod recruiting on defense everyone.

His rankings come from guys who don’t coach and are sitting in their basement with a computer hanging a ranking on him. It appears most of the top programs in the country wanted him which means coaches hanging their livelihood on players thought he was good enough to help them

Recruiting is nowhere near an exact science. Sam McGuffie anyone. #1 running back, D Green, #1 player, R Gary, #2 player J peppers, #1 rec, DPJ. Michigan has recruited well enough to win 10-11 games. For them to get over the hump and get top 3 classes is a QB who plays big in big games.

Furthermore, the best information is from who offers--if the offers are real in the sense the player will actually be offered a scholarship.  The programs-coaches aren't just evaluating as a hobby or even as a pundit-rating service: if they pick too many players that don't play at the requisite level, then they lose their jobs.  Having said that, of course, it's impossible to know if the offers are real

Minnesota has a top 10 class right now, it means nothing. Also the gap between #10 and top 5 is MASSIVE.

You just don't get it do you. How many more L's does Harbaugh have to rack up against OSU before you do? Would 0-10 get you to admit his recruiting stinks? The only measuring stick is OSU. You don't like it go root for another team.

Ah Maizen, I was wondering when you’d be back.

Say, have your parents been able to photoshop you out of all the family portraits yet?  A difficult process, but worth the effort in the end, to be sure!

I often times wonder how he goes about determining what his new account name is going to be.  Like this account for example.  Is Mr. Burns his favorite character from the Simpsons and was he 11 years old when he finally passed second grade?  Was the first house he lived in on "Burns Drive" and was he 11 years old when he finally passed second grade?  Is he a Bernie Sanders supporter and was he 11 years old when he finally passed second grade?

So many possibilities.

I really wonder why he keeps changing names...is he trying to stay anonymous? Because he outs himself in every recruiting thread. Why don’t you stick to one name instead of constantly changing it and trying to hide like a bitch? The only benefit I can see is that your old comments are nearly impossible to find and call you out on when you’re wrong. Bitch move, man up.

The quality of his 0-5 is all I need to see.  And when you factor in the level of high school athlete OSU is bringing into what our defensive coaches will be working with going forward??  I can't see this trend reversing.  The last two games showed Brown has no idea how to stop them.  Plus they've either received verbals or are the favorites for 8 of the top 40 players.  The             gap                continues                             to                                            widen

Yep. This is some rich rod level defensive recruiting right now. Never thought I would see it under Harbaugh but his defensive staff is in wayyy over there heads. But I mean Zordich and Shoop are two middle aged white guys who were known to be average to bad bad recruiters when they were hired and Nua's best job was at a service academy. Don Brown still thinks he's at BC. It's just mind bendingly bad.

Offer or OFFER? How coaches verbally offer scholarships that aren’t committable is one of the world’s great mysteries to me...Like what did they tell the kid: “Hi Billy Bob. This is coach Satan...I mean Saban. We are honored to offer you a scholarship that is in fact not committable. What do you say Billy Bob? Are you ready to come down to Bama and meet some ladies?”

Did he transfer high schools?  I cursory Google search shows he was not at Aquinas last year.  So perhaps that somewhat explains the who-dat nature of his recruiting.

Anyway, excited to have another kid.

This post is a tad gloomy. Even if some of the offers weren't committable, his sheet is still mad impressive and even if you don't trust the Michigan coaches, I sure as hell trust Bama and OSU's coaches for football talent evaluation

I trust this:

First round: of the 32 picks, only 6 players were not ranked as a 5star or 4star by one of the three major networks.

Of those 26 that were a 4/5 by at least one network, 247Sports had the most accurate ranking on 14 of them.

first round scorecard:
1. 247 2. ESPN 3. Rivals
